Yeah that tells me they can’t flex for sure. They know it’s a big game so they at least put good commentators on it.
-
@BShark Bilas absolutely chose to call this game. I’m assuming he can basically pick whichever games he wants to call at this point.
-
Yeah I was shocked to see Bilas. Glad too. I wonder how many + games he’s done?
-
Totally weird to hear and see Bilas on a + broadcast.
-
It was great, better than the alternative
-
Oh man, can’t even think about Fran being there!
-
I was trying to think about at what point Fran would have lost his crap over the officiating last night, obviously it would have been after a K-St foul because only KU gets “all the calls”. Perhaps the Tang Tech would have done it.
We all know he would have coached that K-St team better last night.

You know it STILL amazes me how fans will bitch about the referring when they lose. --K/State fans on their board last night making comments about wondering how much KU paid Higgins and another one of the refs never calling anything against KU.
Funny when they win you hear them say nothing. - -why can’t they say when they win what a great job the refs did lmao ? - - They were making comments that KU was playing at their ceiling last night nd K/State had a much higher Ceiling then KU , and they had bettr athletes then KU. - -I mean true there are some KU fans that bitch about the refs too but still just find it funny
-
I’ll criticize the officiating regardless of the result.
I don’t think KU played to their ceiling, but K-St didn’t play to theirs from what I’ve seen. The crowd and our defense seemed to do their part in influencing that. Both teams missed a lot of shots they normally will make. I haven’t read what K-St is saying but if they have gripes with the ref’s, they should, but they won’t realize a lot of KU fans had the same thoughts about how the game was officiated. It was horrendous.

I dunno , but ya it got pretty physical hell I remember a time can’t remember who it was, driving the lane two players collided and went flying on the floor in separate directions and no call - - NOTHING , yet Bilas talked about how experienced the crew was - -a final four crew hell who knows
-
Very physical game with inconsistent enforcement of rules but that’s nothing new in the Big-12. You either get crews that let them play a bit or like this crew that calls it like a tightwad. This crew especially, Higgins, is known for being special when calling KU games.
-
@BeddieKU23 to me it’s not about calling it tight or letting them play. It’s about being consistent. And that’s what EVERYONE should have a gripe with. The same play could be made on one side of the floor then the other with different calls made each time. Sometimes it went KUs way (early) sometimes it went KSUs. But how are players supposed to adjust to the way a game is called if it’s wildly inconsistent? The foul on the rebound at the end of the first half where Jalen got free throws was terrible. He also got checked at half court on fast breaks multiple times with no call at all. And then there were the 6 straight possessions where all KSU had to do was drive and fall down and it was a foul. Impossible to know what is and is not a foul in the games I’ve watched. It’s a hard job, no doubt, but it’s be nice to see something change when everyone agrees it’s not going well.
