I’ve got a feeling next year, the goal is going to be to shoot 30 3’s and attempt 10 lobs.
I wonder if Sydney Curry is watching all this happen, knowing HCBS is going to get his guys and wondering if he should just go ahead and get out of LOI or put his name in the portal or whatever things a JUCO kid needs to do to get out his “commitment”. Ain’t no way he’s seeing the court for any meaningful minutes next year. He isn’t going pro either so whether he gets on the court or not doesn’t mean anything in his grand scheme of life.
-
@bmensch Sydney Curry is an athletic freak. His biggest issue is needing a year in the weight room to slim down. KU’s current situation at the 5 spot is perfect for Curry because he doesn’t have to be a major contributor this year. He can play spot minutes while working on his body and step into a bigger role in 2022-23.
Bill Self’s stated goal is to get more athletic next year. You don’t do that by getting rid of Sydney Curry.
-
Curry is also a 4 to play 3 guy so he could really develop.

From The Athletic story, “KU is also in talks with several high-major guards and a mid-major wing. The goal is to add athleticism and quickness.”
Umude

Since we’re now fairly short on pure wings, Umude would make a ton of sense. He did go for 28/6/4 at AFH
-
@FarmerJayhawk I like the sound of several high major guards as well.
-
@BShark Locke, Carr, Johnson all come to mind.

If we get one of the last two here it’s all over man.

3rd time is hopefully the charm for the lobos picking up KU’s sloppy seconds. I really hope gethro plays well. I don’t know why, but I just like that kid.
-
I think that he will.

I’m glad he has found a place to play. So many talk trash after a kid leaves , just not the right situation here, doesn’t mean he can’t play - - not saying you by any means but lot’s of people always like to talk crap on a kid after they are gone you know ?
-
@jayballer67 hard to wish anything but the best for a kid we took a flier on anyway. Hope his one year at KU bball school prepared him well!

This is the 4th former KU player under Self that has found his way to Albuquerque. Two of those players didn’t leave KU voluntarily. JR Giddens and Carlton Bragg both got kicked off the team and end up playing professionally. Gethro Muscadin’s situation is more similar to Merv Lindsay who only played a year at UNM before transferring again to an NAIA school.
I do hope Gethro does well, but he’s not the third former Self era Jayhawk to end up at UNM and he wouldn’t be the first successful one either since the previous two who ended their careers there ended up playing professionally with Giddens being a 1st round pick.
-
Carlton took a slight detour and after a year? a pretty good year too, got kicked off from unm too. After the piano playing kid on late night, the kid really shocked me with his troubles. Wrong crowd I’m guessing.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 And Bragg had a solid first season.
-
Carlton is a sad case!
-
Gethro was in a very serious car accident and it’s touch and go. Prayers up.

-
Man, that’s bad news. May God be with him.

Sounds like the crash happened on his way back to his girlfriend’s home in Topeka after they attended the KU-Nevada game. Muscadin was not wearing a seat belt according to the crash report while the girlfriend was.
Always wear a seat belt when your in a vehicle whether you’re driving or not.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 they were headed to wichita where she lives. Accident was on turnpike just south of Topeka. I read it online.

Has anyone heard anything re Gethro’s condition? I haven’t found anything since the accident. I emailed the LWJ/Matt Tait almost a week ago to inquire but have not gotten a reply.
