My dislike of Zuckerberg drove me off that platform many years ago. It was a great decision. It does mean I have had to be more active in keeping up with my Topeka High classmates

I followed that page for about 2 days until I saw a totally inane post like that and obliterated them. I had a post on a group I like called Stadium Chasers about my visit to IU and the Assembly Hall when KU played them. My post was a big hit with 100's of comments and 1000 thumbs up. The other day I saw my post on the same group that someone copied and passed it off as his own, right down to the personal details I'd included about being at the game with my KU roommate.

I only use Facebook for information sharing for our neighborhood and a timeshare we own. Both private groups. I only have 1 "friend", my wife. I get some things like Reels in my feed (always deleted) and zero ads. If you don't click on crap they send you less.

Facebook only retains people because of the network effect and truly is deplorable. If i build a facebook killer for communities would you guys be interested? I can tailor it exactly to your requirements, and wouldnt steal your data ever, just like i have always promised (and been true to). Just a thought. Dismantling facebook would be amazing.

I totally get why people don’t do FB. It does take some effort to block the slop, but it’s worth it to me to stay in touch with friends, read essays I like from people like Heather Cox Richardson, Jim Wright, Johnny Harris and others, and to get a laugh now and then.

When Micheal Jordan scored 69 points, I knew I’d always remember it as the night me and Micheal combined for 70 points — Stacey King, Former Bulls Player

@approxinfinity agree. We dismantle FB by leaving the platform, one person at a time.

I can proudly proclaim that I have NEVER EVER looked at or signed up for or even glanced at any post(s) on that Facebook site and same goes for Instagram.. I keep it simple.

Just so everyone is clear, I very very rarely go to Facebook. I've had an account since 2008 or so and had to have it when my kids were younger because various clubs and groups that they were involved with posted updates there.

I never used it heavily in the early days -- even then it felt like a time-suck. As a designer, I started to realize the techniques they were using that leveraged my innate psychological wiring and left me susceptible to be unconsciously led where they wanted. I stopped using it somewhere around 2012-2013.

What surprised me (and I'm not easily surprised) was 1) how aggressively they served the content and 2) how egregiously false the content was. The two posts I shared were only one post in the feed after the top post that I went to view (which had NOTHING to do with KU, Basketball, etc.). They have picked up information about my interests from God knows where and are thirsty to rouse my attention and get me to click. I mean, this is content that says that someone has DIED and that another person has some life-threatening health condition.

That's pretty low. I guess there is no moral line these days.

                        Rock Chalk!
