Things to Do in Stillwater After the KU Beat Down of OSU

  • Drive by a title insurance company and ask them about clouded title on 1889 land run lands.

Quote from Washington Irving’s A Tour of the Prairies" describing the area of present day Stillwater saying, “The deep and frequent traces of buffalo, showed it to be one of their frequent grazing grounds;” then ask if Irviing were referring to buffalo pies?

Note that in WWII, nearly 30,000 soldiers and 10,000 WAVES were trained in Stillwater and then ask, “How many persons in Stillwater are related to them?”

Ask if Stillwater is so still, why is its crime rate slightly above the national average?

Remark that since Stillwater is classified as having a humid subtropical climate, why aren’t there any palm trees.

Say, “Hey, I saw Goober Drilling is here in Stillwater. What happened to Gomer?”

Mention that US News and World Reports lists OSU at 66 among the top 100 public universities in America, and then say, “I thought sure OSU was at least 65th.”

Ask if Eskimo Joes bar is yet another sensitive Oklahoma tribute to Native American culture?

Say you love Red Dirt music more than Potting Soil Music but not as much as Chicken Manure Compost music.

Thank all Oklahoman’s for exhuming David L. Payne’s remains and getting them the heck out of Kansas. Payne was known for leading the opening of the “unassigned lands,” belonging to native Americans, so that a land rush balkanizing land tenure and obliterating native American rights to the land could occur in 1889. Payne’s remains were moved to Boomer Lake, OK.

As always, thank them kindly for sharing Bill with us.

    (Note: all fiction. No malice.)

  • I think Bill Self is going to have a better list, entitled: Things to do in practice to make up for that inexcusable display of sloppy ball handling and questionable (at best) decisions

  • Talk about not taking care of the ball. I’m not taking anything away from OSU other than continued flops from Smart because they played hard, but KU threw away the ball time after time after time. Luckily a couple of losses by possible title contenders gave us the title outright tonight. A 4 way tie for second place with 10 wins and two games left can’t catch 13 wins. Hated to lose to Smart tonight but we do own the big 12 title outright now and HCBS should be able to get it through some youngsters to TAKE CARE OF THE BALL.

  • @icthawkfan316

It sure was a horrible game. A bunch of pussies at the rim. Selden played great D and that was it for kudos.

  • Tharpe 7 turnovers (I know box shows 6, but I’m giving him 1 for the misguided wrap around in the scrum under the basket) and Greene had 0 turnovers.

  • I missed the entire first half. Glad I did. Knew it would be tough game but the turnovers and all our fouls helped OSU stay in the game. Worry about the lackadaisical handling of the ball by every one of them.

  • @icthawkfan316 I think Self left his A game at home tonight and I wonder if he hasn’t done that subconsciously in the past (seems his record against his alma mater is not good). But here’s why: seemed the player rotation was odd. We weren’t playing well and only 9 players played. Seemed like 8 for the longest time because ESPn didn’t even post CF’s line of all 0’s until post game. At the end of the game we were fouled up, tired and injured and were in no position to close out the game. I point out again that Greene had zero turnovers and so did Landen Lucas.

  • @jaybate 1.0 You are so right about Selden; terrific defensively, really.

  • @Bwag Did they both play in the first half? Greene and Lucas?

  • @RockChalkinTexas no minutes

  • @Crimsonorblue22 No sarcasm alert by him. I missed the first half is why I had to ask.

  • @HighEliteMajor I thought he did a bad job on smart, fouled him 4 times at the end.

  • Smart said During post game interview that they were motivated by Bill Self’s comments on wanting to cut down their nets tonight! Pissed me off!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 When did coach say that? I only heard talk of the trophy being there and hats & shirts ready. Showed what an ass Smart is!

  • @RockChalkinTexas no no! Coach didn’t and wouldn’t say that! Smart said he did. Dumb!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Thanks for sharing that link…

And if anyone wants to see the editorial from the KC Star that started the uproar:

KU’s Bill Self acts like jerk after his Jayhawks win Big 12 championship

Filled with lots of pithy insights like this one: “Well, I didn’t see Self volunteering to give any of his $5 million salary back after what he thought was a poor performance Saturday night.”

I think this guy’s effort was blatantly incendiary. Not sure it’s worth the effort to respond to such a flimsy argument.

  • @bskeet we can’t give him his 5 minutes of fame! He sure won’t win any awards for sport stories.

  • YAEL T. ABOUHALKAH (the op-ed writer for the star) Apparently unable to recognize leadership when he sees it.

Instead, he presumes to criticize the winningest coach in the last decade about his motivational methods.

He can call Bill Self a jerk, but he has to be ready to assume the title of idiot.

  • YAEL, You need your a** kicked and I am wearing the boots to do it. Actually I am 20 years past it so I’ve passed the privilege to my nephew. A recent KSU linebacker who agrees you need it. So learn how to write with respect.

  • Abou-who-gives-a-crap is not a sports writer. he is an op-ed write that obviously is outside his element writing about sports and as a KC star writer he has no clue as to what winning is all about. The article clearly show he knows nothing about competing and winning ins sports; Coach Self knows.

He is the KC Star writer that recently penned an article opposing the new proposed building for athletes. I find it hard to believe he is a KU graduate; he must have had some kind of traumatic experience to be so outspoken in his constant criticism of KU, particularly when it is on a subject in which he is not at all qualified.

This is one of those rare days when a KU graduate writes an inane article about KU basketball while Pat Forde, a MU graduate, writes an incisive article about the squid.

  • @jaybate-1.0 Thought you’d be amused to know that this posting is still actively getting impressions through Google, by people searching for “things to do in stillwater” presumably who are actually looking for things to do in Stillwater. No clicks though. I guess the full link title of “Things to Do in Stillwater After the KU Beat Down of OSU” probably scared them off.

  • @approxinfinity Hilarious! This platform has some serious google juice to get a thread like this elevated that you get a stream of traffic.

    Fun with web metrics!

  • Now that is funny! I will continue writing this comic series of titles for our games in NYC and other world class tourist destinations and spike our web traffic out through the virtual roof!! 😄

    Or maybe not.

  • Thanks a lot guys.

It’s 5:55 am and I’m reading this thinking " How in the hell did I go to bed in September of 2014 and wake up in November of 2013? "

  • @nuleafjhawk just a dream!

@bskeet @jaybate-1.0 we get traffic for all sorts of old threads, some are quite random; you got a click through on “paul charles dozsa chess” JB. Presumably by Paul Charles Dozsa. If this metadialogue somehow violates a law of www-etiquette, feel free to kindly stop me. I find it fascinating. Everybody’s doin’ it (monitoring traffic sources). they just don’t talk about it.

  • @approxinfinity

To quote Paul Charles Dzosa from fading memory:

    “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest…”

    😄

  • @jaybate-1.0 I found the video to which you refer. Hilarious 🙂

  • @approxinfinity

Yep, it is inspired madness. Last winter or early spring was my first viewing of it. It was pandemic at the time. 🙂
