LOL - Job swap for Hubert Davis and Bill Self for a year.

But seriously, does anyone else find it interesting that for all the respect that Self gets for being an elite coaching mind, there doesn't seem to be much of a coaching tree to climb and pick fruit. I don't know if that's a misconception or if the former players are too young, many still in their player career, or product of the kinds of players he tended to recruit.

It just feels different from Larry Brown and even Roy Williams. And very different from Phog Allen and Coach K.

The coaching tree is probably the #1 consideration when Duke and UNC go looking for a successor. But with KU, if we wanted to follow that path, it seems pretty barren.

      Rock Chalk!

@bskeet other than Jeremy Case and KJ being on staff seems like most the guys have either moved on from the game or are coaching HS ball. But yes there isn’t any coaching tree at all right now.

Add its a bad way to go.
Matt Doherty was a failure and now Davis is.
Sheyer was a recruiter and walked into an easy situation regarding that. But he could be a Coach Cal at best. Years of wasting talent.

IMO you hire the best coach in their 40s, and I don't want anyone who's won a title previously. You want a great coach that beleives he needs a blue bloods resources and prestige to be the best.

A douche like Golden would come in thinking he is already the man. If Kansas hired Golden, I'd 100% stop watching. The NIL and transfer portal already have me close. Kansas hiring a complete doucebag like Golden would definitely be enough for me to bail.

          I really like McCollum.

100% agree on Golden - can't stand that guy and can't imagine being a KU fan with him as the face of the team. Yuck. Praying that doesn't happen. Tommy Lloyd would be my top choice.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not after you.

On the character front alone, Golden is a red flag. Chris Beard is probably a bright orange flag.

I sure hope we allow character to be a filter.

I can’t see Self leaving KU hanging for multiple weeks/months if he indeed leaves. The longer his decision goes, the more likely he stays. I also can’t see him wanting to go out like this. He seems too prideful to not try and conquer the new b-ball landscape. All that being said, I think Tommy Lloyd is my top choice.

What is the biggest Bill might even be considering retiring this year thing to make me think Coach maybe calling it quits was in his interview He come out and said he loves what he does but wants to feel good doing it & the statement him saying him and the family would get together and talk about it.

Although McCollum does seem like a winner, and is young enough for some staying power, I wonder how much his slow pace and stout defensive style will play in Lawrence?

I tend to assume KU can get whomever they want usually and have been curious if Dusty May would consider coming to Lawrence?

Bill Self haters catching some heat from former players and other fans. Scott Pollard was quoted saying KU fans are just spoiled, others are saying some KU fans better be careful for what they ask for; - - -some UNC fans said making the NCAA tourney is a hell of a lot better then the NIT

Other UNC fans AND Duke fans saying that KU has never had 20 loss Seasons like they have had , some saying hell there was some UNC fans were wanting Roy Williams run out of Carolina and look what they ended up with, I have to agree with Scott and others KU fans well some anyways are just spoiled they have un realistic takes - -winning NCAA championships just aren't given to you on a silver platter. there is a lot that goes into that.- -Like who is playing their best ball , the health of the team , a team's draw . bad shooting nights , ya da , ya da , ya da

                              Following Self is daunting.

Next coach will look at the Self's winning percentage, B12 titles, Tournament Titles and wonder: "If that wasn't good enough, how will I keep this job?"

Whoever it is will probably need to do what Jon Scheyer has done in his first four seasons-- 3 ACC tournament titles, multiple sweet 16 appearances and a National Title game appearance.

                              Yikes.

Really tough for it to end. Even tougher for it to end this way.

His impact on the program is undeniable.

There will have to be some historic commemoration at some point.
