Miles from the KC Star link:
“We want to win (the Big 12),” Miles said. “We want to win the Big 12 tournament. But ultimately, I believe everybody here, and all the fans, we would rather win a national championship than win the Big 12, obviously. But we’re going to keep doing what we do.”

Excited for another year of B12 play!
Hope we get out of the blocks quick and set the rest of the league back on their heels.
Let’s start by being 2-0 after Monday night…

@Bwag thx!

I really wish that was a picture of Cosch Self and then just change the 2015 to 2014, 2013, 2012 and on and on and on.

@JRyman someone here can probably do that.

Probably so. I just know it’s not me.

To be honest Conference play means a lot to me. I know many seems to down play the feat sometimes. But I have always wondered why any Kansas fan would do that. Because Kansas winning the Big 12 streak is amazing. I know everyone and including me wan’ts more NCAA Championship titles. But guess what that ain’t easy because it’s based on seeding and who you play and sometimes a lot of luck! to win it all. I take it one step at a time and right now winning the Big 12 again is now and it is the most important thing. I will worry about March when it comes. I mean years from now when I’m gone if Kansas can tie or beat UCLA mark. This feat would be talked about for years and decades to come. I mean think about it this way the streak right now is what Kansas is talked about the most and every other fan base want’s to end. I personally want it to continue, why would anyone want it to end. Because it would mean more loses to teams we probably all hate in Conference play. I personally want this streak to continue. I say let’s first win 12 in a row and then worry about March.

@Crimsonorblue22 That picture of AFH is a work of art that deserves to hang in the Louvre.

First post to the site, but feel strongly that achieving a very difficult goal (NC) requires a great focus to improve daily and know that you can win every game. A quick review of the past 26 NC champions, 20 won their conference championship that season. Half of those 6 exceptions happened to be UCONN (2004, 2011, 2014). With these odds I would much rather enter tournament as the B12 champion.

@wrwlumpy - LOL great post to start a new year.

What about UCLA’s other streak…9(?) NCAA tournaments in a row? That would be something to shoot for.

I have been an avid lurker of this site for a while, but when I saw this thread I felt like I had to post. Hopefully this provides some insight into how I think and feel about the team.
To preface what I am about to say, I never grew up a Jayhawks fan as I wasn’t originally from Kansas, and for the first half of my life, I couldn’t call myself much of a fan of any sport. That changed when I transferred to the University of Kansas from Wichita State. After watching Wayne Simien’s first exhibition game with a few of my friends and roommates. it was easy to see why the sport was so popular in Lawrence, and I was hooked. That said, it wasn’t until conference play started in Spring semester that i really understood what it meant to be a fan of the program. My emotions towards the shortfalls and successes of the program certainly intensified, and as such a short lived fan of the program at that time, I had no way to qualify or quantify why they did. It just happened.
As I have gotten older, I’ve been able to put things into perspective much better than when I was a young college student. The highs aren’t quite as high, but the lows don’t hurt that bad like they did when I was at school. Even with this new found outlook on KU hoops, conference season still manages to get me red in the face, jump off my sofa, fist pump in the living room, yell profanities at the TV, and consume alcohol on work nights when I probably shouldn’t. Familiarity breeds contempt, and even if as an adult, I can mask that contempt, it’s definitely there…
So right now, conference season means the following to me:
- Enjoying every conference win more than the non-con games, unless it’s a win over the likes of UK, Duke, Michigan St, Arizona etc…
- Absolutely dreading the losses. Losing to teams in conference is the worst. It’s a lot harder to avoid the alumni at work and where I live after a conference loss.
- Driving coworkers and friends that attended KSU crazy by not even bringing up a win over their program. Nothing pisses off little brother more than not giving a rat’s if little brother even exists.
- Keeping the liquor supply stocked to cope with the inevitable court storming.
- Watching some of the games with the television muted, as the sound of KSU and ISU fans being happy grieves me. Obviously MIzzou used to fall into this bucket as well.
Since I have been a fan my favorite conference moments have been:
- Drew Gooden spiking the ball on ISU’s court in 2002 to the chagrin of Clowns nation.
- Miles and Hinrich hitting those improbable three pointers at the end of the game in Methsewery in 2003.
- Julian Wright’s 360 dunk on UT for the Big XII ship, and his miserable dunk fail the next year against the Buffs.
- The Brady Morningstar free throw.
- Tyshawn Taylor putting it all together in 2012 just in time for conference season.
- The come back from -19 against MU.
- EJ dunking the ball at the end of OT in Ames.
Sorry for the lengthy first post, but figured this thread was the best way to introduce myself. Looking forward to talking hoops with everyone here.

Here is one of may favorites when a stare from Embiid makes Smart flop…

Now we know why you defend JT’s minutes!!!

What does conference play mean to me?
-
Shutting up the yapping competition.
-
Seemingly endless days/evenings of KU hoops.
-
A means to an end.
@Mikey-P Welcome, as well.
My favorite – “5.Tyshawn Taylor putting it all together in 2012 just in time for conference season.”
I always struggled with Taylor. Was glad to see him put it together – finally. 2011-12 was Self’s best coaching job in my opinion. KY and Wesley off the bench in the post, and Teahan on the perimeter. Wow. And we come within a few minutes of a national title. TT redeemed his prior seasons of chaotic performances in one half season.
Great post. Don’t be a stranger.
