Barely remember the guy. Had a couple good games at KU, I think. Maybe his heroics won one?
-
He certainly won’t be immortalized in the KU record book. Let’s see… he scored 333 points in his KU career… that ought to put him about 532nd on the KU individual scoring leaders board…
Whereas Perry…
-
What? Wizards have played some 240 minutes of which Kelly has played ONE? What else can an NBA millionaire do with his hands if not allowed to touch a basketball?
-
I’ll be the bad guy…
Add Wiggins, Embiid, Selby, any other of names to this list. They seem like good young men, and I wish all players well who have worn a Jayhawk uniform at some brief point in their lives, but they mean nothing to me personally.
I have no warm fuzzy feelings for any of the OAD’s - how could I? I barely knew them.
-
@nuleafjhawk I detct no “bad guy” behind your summation. Sad state of current collegiate basketball. What a bind for wizardly developmental coaches like Bill Self.
-
I like to think of them as TOADS. I haven’t figured out what the T stands for, but it won’t be nice.
-
Well he did get drafted by a playoff team that didn’t need a SF. His Pre-Season was very inconsistent so he’s not going to play too much unless injuries help him out. He’s going to have to really work hard to stay with this team regardless of being a 1st round pick or not. I don’t blame him for leaving but clearly he could have improved his game more playing for KU another year…
-
@BeddieKU23 he did get some time last pm. His behavior will not help him.
-
yes 3-9 will not help his cause for playing time or the 0-4 from 3… Maturity is a big thing Kelly will need to understand in this league
-
@nuleafjhawk Cannot agree more… Make a list of your favorite top 20 KU players since say, 1985… How many OAD’s make anyones list? Selby does make my list - he’s no 1 on my LEAST favorite players
-

Embiid makes my top 10 - maybe my top 5.
-
@ParisHawk Seriously? Danny, Paul, Raef, Brady … then Joel ?
-
@DanR Favorite doesn’t mean best. Danny was a great player, but I was 2 when he won the 1988 title so I have little connection to him as a player so he’s not even in my top 10 favorite players.
My favorites list is Sherron, T-Rob, Christian Moody, Chalmers, and Tyshawn in that order.
-
@Bosthawk Some of my favorites go back before 1985 (Hey - I’m old). I never saw him play, but Wilt will always be my favorite, college or pro. After that, in no particular order:
Jeff Boschee
Nick Collison
Jacque Vaughn
Danny Manning
Milt Newton
Raef LaFrentz
*Paul Pierce
Mark Turgeon
T-Rob
Jo-Jo- White
Perry Ellis ( yes, I said it!)
*Drew Gooden
AAron Miles
Steve Woodberry
Kevin Pritchard
Scot Pollard
Kirk Heinrich
Darnell Valentine
Jerod Haase
Russell Robinson
Frank Mason III
-
- am still slightly ticked that they left after Junior year. Guess how I feel about OAD’s ?
-
-
Not sure about Pierce winning a year later, but had Gooden stuck around, that years team would have been one of the all time greats. I’m still hacked off at him for leaving.
Interestingly, Danny stuck around when all logic said to leave and of course, won.
You don’t have Chalmers on your list? Did you forget him or not really care for him since he left early?
Speaking of Darnell, I was in Robinson Gym one day when I should have been studying (which was like every day I was at KU) and I think I was just waiting to get in a game. Well this stranger comes up and asks me to rebound his shots as he was practicing his shooting. I thought it was kind of strange, (because I didn’t recognize him) but said OK and then he introduced himself as Darnell. This was years later in his career as he was trying to hang on.
-
@wissoxfan83 Cool story about Darnell ! As far as Mario, I don’t know - he was a very, very good player, but for reasons I can’t really put my finger on , he wasn’t one of my favorites. I thought about that when I put Scot on there - he wasn’t the greatest player to ever wear a Jayhawk uniform, but he sure was (is) entertaining and charismatic.
-
I always enjoyed watching Mario a lot. His success as a pro was on display here I believe and in my mind he’ll be one of my top KU players. I’ve always just thought of him as a gamer, some one you can count on to not choke. Of course the shot confirmed all that, but even before the shot he was on my short list of KU favorites.
-
@nuleafjhawk Man, I really enjoyed reading your list! I am an old guy, too. Some of these names bring back fine memories. (Just off the cuff, the one name I might add to your list would be Sherron Collins, at least from fairly recent rosters.)
-
@wissoxfan83 Forget about Gooden that year, if Wayne Simien had been healthy, KU probably beats Syracuse.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Either way we win, Gooden or Simien playing.
