BIG RULE CHANGES THIS YEAR BESIDES THE 30 SECOND CLOCK.
-
Some of these are very dynamic changes in what we are use to. Just like Hal McCrae had a rule named after him that said you could not knock down the Second baseman and then lay on top of him, One of these rules will forever be known as the Marcus Smart rule.

“Coaches can no longer call timeouts during live-ball situations. They’ll also have one fewer to use (four total for the game) and only three in the second half. Hopefully this will help eliminate the eye-rolling practice of having games that are already decided extended by timeouts.”
I don’t know what to think about this no timeouts during liveball situations. This means no timeouts to set up a last second play? No TO’s to help your player when they’re trapped? They’re only given 4 so they can’t waste a whole lot of these anyways, but this will definitely change the game.

The 5 second closely guarded rule certainly hurts KU.
-
Yeah… I don’t get why they are stopping that rule. It was helpful in making offense keep the ball moving. It really takes away a key benefit of traps and high pressure defense as a whole. I’m not sure why they dropped it, but it was a big mistake.
-
What is the limit on the number of shoes a player can sell before each game?
And does he have to report the sale as earned income?
-
They dropped in pursuit of more possessions?
-
Actually… there should be less possessions because we all know there are few 5-sec calls. Now you will apply pressure and it won’t matter because one guy will hold the ball on a pivot and it won’t pay to pressure him.
I think the thought is to (once again) favor the offensive side of the ball thinking this change will add extra points to the final score. BigShoe wants more baskets, so the entire game gets prostituted out so these criminal cartels can have their way.
There is nothing innocent in D1. It’s as filthy as a Tijuana brothel.

Back when the Oregon Duck got their Chromed helmets, fluorescent colors and Duck wings on their Jerseys, I knew the end of the one uniform for home and the opposite color for away was going to be a thing of the past. KU could conceivably wear 7 different Adidas uniforms this year. “Please, Please, Please” to quote James Brown, do not bring out a Black uniform.
-
@wrwlumpy I can’t imagine how Mangino won with one helmet and two uniforms – one blue, one white.
-
@HighEliteMajor He didn’t win with two uniforms.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Ok, help me out then. Seemed like they replicated the NY Giants uniforms. And it seemed like he won. Further, he didn’t seem have multiple uniform/helmet combos. Again, feel free to point out the error of my ways.
I also recall Bowen last season, after he took over, shutting down the uniform carousal, and referencing the Mangino (Orange Bowl) days. But I’ve been know to have a faulty memory.
Also, just before Weis was fired, I wrote about the uniform mess. Bowen seemed to feel the same way.
-
@HighEliteMajor Mangino used the red uniforms on occasion as well including in the Orange Bowl.
Keep in mind that the uniforms are also a part of recruiting pitches to athletes so it’s more important to have uniforms that appeal to potential recruits so even if KU wears the worst looking uniforms ever, we’re not the target demographic for these uniforms. HS kids are the target demographic for the trends in uniforms to try and help with recruiting and to stand out as much as possible, especially if there isn’t much tradition to stand on with a program like KU football.
-
carousal? Freudian slip? Perhaps you meant carousel?..although carousal could work depending on what you meant.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yes, I meant the one with the “e”. I don’t think I’ve ever used the one with an “a” before in conversation. But it could work … I just misspelled it.
-
@wrwlumpy When the Saints wear their black uni’s I wish they would lose and get rid of them. But I hate one color uni’s anyway. They’re all ugly.
-
I really like the rule for having less timeout’s. Should help alleviate some of the snooze fest end of games became.
There’s already a min of 4 media timeouts per half + any replay & team timeouts. How many timeout’s does a game seriously need??
We all know what its like to be getting ready for a Big Monday game with Wake Forest & Pittsburgh in a FT shooting contest for 10 minutes and then we miss the first 4-5 minutes of the game. I had to pay attention to ACC games just to project whether they were going 20 minutes over the 2hr time slot or not.

@BeddieKU23 didn’t they change the 5 sec count last year? Seems like somebody told me that when I was hollering 5 at an official.
