Driving I-70 Eastbound to land of Ahhhh's

  • @JayhawkRock78 I think the quarantine is not as long as it used to be as they have a more rigid processing you can do before they go that is acceptable.

  • @brooksmd I hope so. A Shell guy I know got transferred down under three years ago and they came back in a year- he said the little kids had a tough time because the pets were away for months-I guess they didn’t know about the prep option.

  • @JayhawkRock78

Hilarious! That’s what I’m worried about 8 yr old coming up w something quasi racist!

If he were a boy we could go for Brady as a shout out to @HighEliteMajor’s favorite entry passer?

  • @JayhawkRock78 Just looked, and minimum time is 10 days and of course it depends on animal, where it came from and the pre-importing processing which they provide guidelines when each step needs to be done to meet the expected arrival of the pet.

  • @brooksmd HUGE improvement. Nice to know incase I hit the lottery. Would it be San Diego? Perth? Probably both.

  • I lived in Hawaii in the late 90’s…

"Chapter 4-29 Hawaii Administrative Rules, governs the importation of dogs, cats and other carnivores into Hawaii. This law states that dogs and cats meeting specific pre- and post-arrival requirements may qualify for 5-day–or-less quarantine program, which has a provision for direct release at Honolulu International Airport after inspection.

Furthermore, the law requires dogs and cats that do not meet all of the specific 5-Day-Or-Less program requirements to be quarantined for up to 120 days upon arrival in Hawaii."

  • Is Hawaii still snake free or did some bozo smuggle his pets in and screw paradise up?

Ive been reading about the Python mess in Florida-out of control and scary scenario of cross breeding.

  • @VailHawk crimson is a great girls name!!

  • @brooksmd you probably had date pm!

  • image.jpg

  • @VailHawk sunnier down here, welcome back to ks!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Just saw a guy sporting a Royals hat in Limon, CO!

  • @VailHawk We spent a week in Silverthorne a few years ago and LOVED it. The weather was picture perfect ( it was summer though! ) , light mountain breezes, NO BUGS. I wanted to move there for about 5 years. Well, I guess I still do…

  • @nuleafjhawk

Lack of bugs, low humidity and 300+ days of sunshine are a few of my favorite things!

  • @VailHawk All that and some KU basketball - we have a winning formula!

  • My grandparents had a beautiful cabin & land West of Salida from the late 50’s to 1980. Mistake of my life not to find a way to keep it in the family.

  • @VailHawk I say, ROAD TRIP! Brooks can cook, global can fix everything, brooks also mows and does dishes, I will play w/kids and dog(s)!!!💃👪👬👍🐶🚕

  • @brooksmd only a very few airlines have climate controlled cargo holds for pets & is so easy for them to be hypothermic especially as pups. Young lady that still works for my vet bought one our pups abt 10 yrs ago & sent it to family in Napa Valley Cost her abt $400 for the tic on Midwest Express & she paid us abt $500 for the pup-one of Roxy’s black & white Boxers. The sire was black/white & line bred for colors but she was fawn & from diff bloodlines. That same sire was also Woodys dad. That breeder lives up North of Lawrence on Perry Lake.

  • @globaljaybird who’s driving? I can.

  • @JayhawkRock78 Haven’t been there in 15 yrs but Gunnison Canyon is Georgeous…& COLD !! Million dollar hi way is phenominal. Cost a million a mile to build it is what I was told.

  • @brooksmd

Reminds me of the Kansas motto:

“Kansas… climate change every 5 minutes!”

  • Good news…They’re building a Steak n’ Shake in Goodland!

  • With all due respect, and not wanting to go down the political rabbit hole regarding this issue, you should know that since too many simpletons and uninformeds see snow on the ground and think that “Global Warming” must be a lie or hoax, a name change was in order. As for me, I am gong to agree with 95% of the worlds actual leading “Climate” experts/scientists who say that Climate Change is real, and that Man is a major contributor to it. If anyone wants to believe the other 5%, that is their choice . . . unfortunately.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said:

    @globaljaybird who’s driving? I can.

Great. Designated Driver = @Crimsonorblue22 for road trip to @VailHawk

  • @drgnslayr Alaska Airlines motto: Once you’ve seen Alaska, everything else looks like Kansas!

  • @hawkmoon2020

I sum it all up like this…

People can believe what they want and I respect everyone’s opinion. My only word of advice is to be careful when considering an investment in beachfront property because you might get wet, just go inland 10 miles and enjoy the drought!

    @brooksmd

And the answer is “yes” I stole it off a bumpersticker!

  • @hawkmoon2020 Call me 5%.

  • What ever the cause-man, water vapor, cycles you can’t deny the glaciers are receding big time. Mt. Kilimanjaro’s snow pack is going south fast which meets less and less summer water for the people and critters alike.

My avatar was taken in Alaska the day of a glacier tour.

  • @brooksmd The solution is to give them your money, and control of your energy. Because you have to know you are guilty - you are destroying the earth, so you must be controlled by thoughtful socialists, who only want the best for you. Because they know better.

Straight out of 1984., isn’t it?

  • Hmm. From my perspective (and belief,) your “solution” really sounds, looks and feels like the position Big Oil is and has been taking . . . other than convincing you that you ARE NOT destroying. the earth, and then swapping “socialists” for Big Oil. I guess because it involves “capitalism,” that solidifies its priority above all consequences.

Fully respect for your BB insights and comments, fellow alum, but we just disagree on this issue.

    Class of 82’. Rock Chalk!

  • @brooksmd Hell, all I wanna do is take a friggin road trip-does this mean we have to stay home & vote now ?! Guess tounge in cheek don’t count anymore brooks. JK

  • @globaljaybird I was gonna try and explain my position, but the heck with it. I guess I just have a hard time taking whatever drivel spews forth from Al Gore’s pie hole seriously when he and his followers climb in private jets and fly all over the world to 5 star resorts selling carbon credits or whatever the heck they are. And then fly back in their private jets to their multi-million dollar mansions with a higher monthly electric bill than I pay in a year.

Now about that road trip. Let’s get us the biggest motorhome we can find and go. lol

    👅 👅 👅

  • @drgnslayr My fav bumper sticker is the one on the back of some ton dually that hails “Thanks for Savin’ Some Extra Gas For Me”…LOL

  • @hawkmoon2020 " Big Oil" has never put a gun to my head, or a boot to my throat. This last century is simply riddled with oppressive socialist governments killing millions of people. Remember, they’re " here to help". What could possibly go wrong?

  • @brooksmd Can’t argue that Gore is a bit of a hypocrite (as am I in some respects,) but what’s he to do? Walk his way to other parts of the world? LOL And I hope for his sake, his mansion has every alternative/renewable energy sources available. Imagine what airfares would be, in all due time time, once we harness solar and/or revolutionize electric energy like we currently are?

Love me some road trips! Best way to see the great U.S. of A, not to mention kindling our Jayhawk camaraderie!

  • @hawkmoon2020 Yeah I agree-believe it or not a wind turbine generator is a pretty simple piece of equip to build. A homeowner can do it. But you also better believe that the second you prop it up outside your neighbor will be calling DHE or the EPA & you’ll become either so taxed, spending lotsa $$$$ for permits & regulatory requirements, or spend countless hours & time wading through the buracracy that you’ll finally say F it, & keep makin that monthly donation to KCP&L Watch the old GC Scott & Brando flick “The Formula” & maybe you’ll get the drift…hell, WE ARE the ARABS !!

  • @brooksmd @Crimsonorblue22 When do we leave? Can I take Rascal?? We’re both housebroke???

  • @brooksmd personally I think it’s a great (sarcasm) move to replace old inefficient cheap ass incandescent light bulbs with 10 x the price fluorescents…what’s a little mercury in the Earth gonna hurt. I know of no trash service in the entire metro that will haul em to a landfill. Watch what happens if a thermometer gets broken in a public school these days for relevance- no JK

Yeah we can wish in one hand & KRAP in the other but the thing that fills the fastest is the pockets in DC & that ain’t ever gonna change-least not in our lifetimes. Lobbyist are here to stay & going nowhere. Soooooooo- Road Trip !!

  • @globaljaybird yes!!

  • KUBUCKETS PRODUCTIONS
in association with BIA/LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN LABORATORIES and RASCAL ENTERTAINMENT present the @VailHawk FILM…

  • @jaybate-1.0 Sometimes I just have to sit back & marvel at some of the abstract & relevant connections that your brain is capable of coming up with to chuck into the mix of a thread. Makes me realize that you’re just as FOS as the rest of us…but a helluva lot more subtle & clever. Now if I were quick enough to connect these kinda dots-I might have posted the Travis Tritt video starring Billy Bob in the “Modern Day Bonnie & Clyde”

Not quite the artistic standard of an MC Escher portrait but I still dig it . Sit back, relax, & enjoy the jam !!.

  • @jaybate-1.0

You write it, I’ll direct it. Count the responses in here as the marketing showing it will be a box office smash hit!

My gift (or problem) is that I see both sides to this fence. I tend to always focus on the negative aspects first.

    NEGATIVES:

GLOBAL WARMING DOESN’T EXIST CROWD: I understand you don’t like most of the science community telling you it is true. But unless you are a conspiracy theorist, do the math, take a trip up north and see it for yourself. All the posted footage isn’t lying. Don’t say it isn’t so just because you don’t like the messengers.

GLOBAL WARMING DOES EXIST CROWD: Okay… you are the first to admit it. So why haven’t you gone off grid to help stop it? Why do you pollute and create CO2 every bit as much as the people who don’t believe in it? What is your realistic plan to slow it down?

I try to not be wasteful, partly because I’m cheap, partly because that was the way I was brought up from a man who grew up in a 600 sq ft carriage house with 21 other inhabitants. Yes… 22 people lived in that space. So… I’m not a big believer in excesses.

I currently raise about 50% of my family’s food on my city lot. It’s an over-sized lot, 1 1/2 times the size. Within a few more years I will have mature enough perimeter produce trees to knock that number up to about 70%. I will soon be polishing up my gun and fishing tackle trying to raise that number up to about 85%.

Yes… I can, dehydrate and pickle my produce, too. Few people on this planet eat the quality of food we eat. Certainly not millionaires eating out of fancy restaurants. Last year I went big into growing spicy chili peppers from Mexico. Think I had about 35 varieties. Had a couple books on making traditional moles. I still have a few gallons of my ferments in the refrigerator. You couldn’t pay a million dollars and get this anywhere. I took some to a friend of mine who owns a fancy restaurant and he begged for more.

I have the need for a 1/2 ton pickup, so I use more gas than I’d like to. Before that truck, I had a S10 mini pickup that did me about 25 mpg in town. I miss that truck!

We should all pull in our belts not just because of possible global warming. We should just do it because it is the right thing to do! I’m constantly walking behind my wife turning off lights and devices because I hate wasting energy.

I am very thankful my father was able to break out of poverty, but still teach me the same value for money he had growing up in a shed… with no bed and blankets scattered out on the floor where everyone slept at night. No inside toilet except a bucket in the winter.

There was a show on recently that we watched and it touched our attitudes… “Just Eat It!” It discussed how much food we waste in our society, and what the cost is for producing all the food we waste. It isn’t just energy. It is also water and other resources, like oxygen-creating trees, etc. It made me want to go dumpster diving, but my wife drew a line in the sand, so I’ll be staying out of dumpsters. Here is a link to the movie:

    Just Eat It!

It comes down to principles. All of this stuff comes down to personal responsibilities and principles.

  • @drgnslayr “I’m constantly walking behind my wife turning off lights and devices because I hate wasting energy.”

    Yeah.

I’m sure that’s the reason you’re constantly walking behind your wife…

  • @nuleafjhawk

Hahahaheeee… true… I don’t want to get run over! She’s like 7 inches shorter, and with a low center of gravity, she can undercut me at will!

  • @globaljaybird $1M a mile is what all highways cost back in Pennsylvania. I-376 from the city to Pgh Intl Airport was redone so many times that when Al McGuire was in town to call a college game, he said to an interviewer, “That road into the city from the airport–someone is stealing money from you people.” I laughed at that quote and never forgot it. Also, got a BB reference into the thread.

  • @globaljaybird

“Makes me realize that you’re just as FOS as the rest of us…but a helluva lot more subtle & clever.”

Reminds me of a comment I heard several decades ago:

“You are either FOS or your a big Azz Hole. One of the two. Think about it.”

I have to admit that comment stuck. It’s been a part of my humility ever since!

  • @EdwordL Colorado 550 runs N / S from Durango to old E / W 50 North of Ouray & Silverton. It was built during the Great Depression at that cost so goes the story. The old DRGW R R has a passenger train that runs from Durango to Siverton along the Animas River in the canyon below the hy. Far as I know that stretch of river is one of the few stretches of class 5 white water in the continental U S excluding Alaska. The train also books months in advance & the scenic day trip is spectacular. Also the hy 550 reaches several summit passes & valleys with small towns sprinkled throughout with hot springs / geysers everywhere. Much of the hy is built on the edge of cliffs & is definitely not a drive for the faint of heart. It is called one of the most dangerous drives in America. E / W US 50 was the f one of the first hy to cross the divide long before inrtstate 70 did. That road leads to The Black Canyon of the Gunnison & leads over Monarch Pass abt Salida. The Arkansas River flows down the East side of he divide through the Royal George. Some of the most splendid landscape I’ve eve exp- trout fishing, horse packing, just outrageously wonderful country IMO.

  • @drgnslayr reminds me of a passage from the Good Book I read many yrs back…

“In haste do not be haughty or proud of humility.”

  • @globaljaybird Reminds me of home. Born in Pueblo, CO. (Highway 50), and went to College in Ft. Collins, CO. The Royal Gorge (not George) is 50 miles from where I lived for 25 years.

    Oh YES, … Memories !!!
