I love KU basketball

  • and I can’t wait to see them play again this summer. I miss the team already!

  • I forgot about that! Made my sour day a tad bit sweeter knowing I don’t have to wait so long. Plus, they get unlimited practice time to prepare! Could be pretty sweet next year.

  • No one who is here is a fair-weather fan. I appreciate that.

Everyone on this site during the season has followed the team with its incredible comebacks and it’s painful letdown losses.

Today was very disappointing, and we fans are going to have to endure a lot of grief from giddy, over-zealous WSU fans for a long long time.

I appreciate being a part of a community of fellow fans who appreciate the team and carve time out of their schedule to share thoughts and emotions with each other.

Have a great off-season, and Rock Chalk.

  • Hope we get some post guys that can play and be eligible

  • @bskeet no time off!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I need a little time to process. 😞

  • I love KU too, but I have to leave some games to the DVR because I get stressed. This has been my hardest year to watch KU, maybe because I’ve had TV access to nearly every game they played. Tonight I turned it off 5 minutes into the second half.

As someone mentioned, we have this summer to watch more games. And I really look forward to next year.

As for the rest of the tourney-I am very happy I don’t live in Kansas anymore so I don’t have to listen to the WSU noise.

  • Guys r classy and respectful in postgame

  • @RockChalkChamps God, I love your post. We have been blessed with a world class organization that puts out an amazing product year after year. Now, these last two years have been quite tough according to the standards that Coach Self has set in the past. We’re used to being a number 1 seed, with 30 wins under our belt, so we have been in rebuild mode, at least for us. The great news is almost the entire team will be back next year. A healthy Perry, a healthy Frank, and hopefully, some additional size to help us do what we do so well.

I don’t have much patience for ingrates. I apologize, but when people wish that players on our team would leave, I’m going to react every time. We have the privilege of supporting the best college basketball program in the history of the sport - it doesn’t mean we’re going to win every game, every time. If you don’t have the ability to see the good in our team, maybe being a true fan isn’t for you. It is shocking for me to see some of our “fans” call for Bill Self to be fired. To me, that isn’t being a fan…that’s being a critic, and your lust to win has exceeded your intelligence.

  • As we sit here now, we are the farthest away from the next KU basketball game as we could be. It’s like being a kid, and waking up on December 26. And as we get older, we don’t want time to go by too quickly. Quite a dilemma.

  • @HighEliteMajor Deep. I enjoyed your post this year. See you in Korea.

  • @HighEliteMajor Lots of other living to do between now and then, HEM!

  • @wrwlumpy I may actually make the trip since I am on this part of the world. Anyway, it has been fun. It has been great to have all of you on this board to make this season memorable. There are many great basketball concepts and observations that will stick for years to come. I hope we will keep this place warm. Thank you all. RCJH!

  • Just wanted you fans to know that some of us keep in touch all year round. Brooks, global, Wissox, jayhawkfantoo, slayer , jayhawkrock78 and others talk about royals-we chat during games, talk about recruiting, gardening, history, and other crazy things. Maybe some KU track, baseball whatever. Feel free to join us and update recruiting, Cliff ordeal, gossip or whatever. We are friends!

  • @HighEliteMajor Wow. I had been thinking the same thing…as we get older we think about such things.

  • I look forward to keeping in touch and discussing the finalization of recruiting, the summer games, and predictions for the upcoming team. Each basketball year is a new one. Should be fun.

  • @HighEliteMajor At least on Dec. 26 you’ve got presents to play with and family to enjoy. My parents and one of my sisters went to WSU…

  • @dylans

I feel for you! I’m thinking of skipping workout tomorrow cuz I don’t want to see K-State grad from Wichita!!!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Thanks 22. You are emerging as the GLUE to KU buckets.

I don’t say that lightly. I’ve seen a key person here or there in my advanced years keep a good thing going. Many thanks and…

    Thank you!

  • @JayhawkRock78

Agreed! @Crimsonorblue22 is one cool lady hawk!

  • I’ll check in from time to time. We’ve got to chat recruiting and speculate on what new schemes Self will be cooking up to make sure KU survives the first weekend next year.

  • I’m actually not that distraught tonite…but below is a cool version of a classic Pixies song after our Hawks bow out earlier than we want.

  • @VailHawk AND PLEASE TO ALL AT KU BUCKETS.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO APPROXFINITY ANd BSKEET FOR CREATING THIS SITE AND KEEPING IT GOING,!!!

  • @VailHawk Not feeling too distraught either, just didn’t think this team had it together. What I’m most curious about is potential changes to Self’s coaching philosophy going forward…you know, stuff we can only conjecture about until the players take the court again.

  • Well guys, I’ve been following so many of you since the old site when I was a little kid and even followed some on the old cbssports message boards, I’ve read all of your posts for years and always felt like I’ve had nothing to contribute but I have to say I’m pretty crushed by this loss. This is three losses in a row in the month of March that I just find totally inexcusable. I try and convince myself that I care more about the regular season, the grind it out victories that translate into 11 conference championships that may some day equal those of my hero Coach Wooden, but these disappointing efforts stick with me more than those conference championships every year. I wish it weren’t so, but it is.

In 2012 I was lucky enough to have been in St. Louis and experience in person the incredible effort that propelled us to victory against UNC to New Orleans. I watched the unexplainable upset against Ohio State in Allen Fieldhouse and celebrated on Mass Street. These memories stick with me. Since that time I’ve been away from Kansas and I feel drawn to the Kansas and KC area through our sports teams and through you guys. My family traveled without me to Dallas in 2013 and experienced the heartbreak firsthand. Through it all, I always come back to you guys. Jaybate and HEM, to name just a couple, have been my go to opinions for Kansas basketball. This is an incredible site, you all are such a joy to read. The positivity, loyalty, and depth of knowledge is refreshing.

I talked to my father at length about this, we are spoiled, of that there is no doubt. But I do not not believe it is irrational to expect these teams to advance to the second weekend. I didn’t expect this team to be national champions. But to me, losing in the round of 32 two years in a row is similar to a first round exit. If you cannot make it to the second weekend with the talented players and coach that we have than you’ve underperformed at Kansas. So here I am, emotionally raw and in the process of recovery. I just wanted to thank you for the citadel of Kansas basketball this site has provided. You guys are awesome. I hope to see some of you around for the Royals?? Anyways, always faithful to our Jayhawks! Rock Chalk!

  • Thank you Jayhawks for another great season and eleventh straight Big XII championship. Frank Mason, you were the rock and MVP of this team. Keep your head high and come back stronger next season.

  • @RockChalkChamps I love KU basketball too. Last nights game stung but I didnt even have them picked to win their first game in 3 of my brackets. Im still sad the season is over for our boys. I could see it in Mason’s eyes when he went to the bench after fouling out. He had this look in his eyes that said **Never Again, not while I am here. ** We will see who comes back next season but we are most likely going to see everyone back except Oubre. And, even he might come back imo. Plus we should add one or two guys that will help fill our weak spots, I hope. Those boys will be better next year, I know it.

  • @bskeet I wonder, will this loss make it more likely that KU does schedule WSU for some sort of non conference match up in the future? Im thinking we let them come to AFH first in a home and home series, beat their @$%$#$ all good and proper.

  • Time to start preparing for next year! We are ONE legit 7’ away from the top 1 seed next year. HCBS needs to find our next years EMBIID or land a 5 star center SOON!

  • @Lulufulu

Depending on who goes and who stays, WSU might have 1 more year of top-shelf basketball left but after that they will go into another 20 years of futility. I believe that Marshall will not stay past next year and will strike will the iron is hot. You heard it here first.

  • @Lulufulu I saw that look on Frank’s face as well. It reminded me of Kirk Hinrich’s freshmen year when we lost against Duke in the 2nd round as 8 seed. It was a tough game and Kirk played his heart out. I’m hopeful, with Frank and Devonte at the helm, we will do better in the tournament the next couple of years.

  • @JayHawkFanToo think he’ll go to 'Bama? Cf make the rotation next year? Put baker at 3, cf 2, and back up pt? Baker checked the draft out last year.

  • I’m a KU basketball fanatic, but I don’t know what I’m going to miss more… a KU game right around the corner or chatting with everyone in here. It has been insanely entertaining and the absolute best reason to gyp work!

  • I love Kansas basketball and I hate KUBuckets. How many times have I fallen behind on work either at work or at home because I’m reading/responding to all kinds of theories out there.

Someone said we’re spoiled. Here’s how spoiled we are. Since I came to KU in 1985, and actually, I think if I had enrolled a year earlier in 1984, we’d have a string of …calculating…calculating… 29 NCAA tournaments out of 30 possible. And the one time we missed, we were all so giddy over 1988 we barely noticed not making it!

The other night as I watched my second love the announcer said Oregon has danced 13 times in their entire history! They actually won the first official NCAA tournament in 1939. I think Duke can write the same about their success since 1984 and UNC as well. No one else can. We’ve got it good, uh, great as KU fans.

@VoyagingJayhawk, keep posting! We need more!
