    @wissox 3-1?

    Oh yes, we’re already 2-1

Yeah. Good to keep it in perspective.

Would never want a home loss, but hard not to wish we had gone from 1-1 to 2-1 this time rather than going from 2-0 to 2-1.

  • I have to agree, I think Lance electing to kick the ball on fourth and seven was the first time have to question his decision .What the hell are w doing kicking the ball on fourth and seven when we haven’t stopped Missouri all day and yet we punt- - – -terrible call.

I think this game showed us our defense has a lot of work to do , we are a very average team if our RB’S can’t do any better sheesh…

  • @Jhawk69 this guy didn’t even start last week, the other qb started and got hurt. They were gonna switch at half. Dinky couldn’t decide on a starter.

  • This game was lost in 2nd quarter when MO pretty much held the ball

  • @Crimsonorblue22 That is on the misery coaching staff for not properly evaluating their QB room. He is elite and should have been named the starter from the get-go.

  • The punt call was absolutely indefensible. You haven’t gotten a stop all day and you give them the ball back with under 3 minutes left? That was so damn ridiculous, but has unfortunately become a pattern under Leipold. His has always been way too conservative in his game management and that absolutely comes from his first head coaching job being at a powerhouse program where that mindset was the right mentality most of the time. He has never developed a risk taking approach and that has been on display over his few years here. The decision in the 3rd quarter to kick a FG instead of going for it on the road isn’t an aggressive mindset, it’s a conservative one that has now cost KU several games.over the years.

Also with the defense, why were our corners playing so deep even in short yardage situations? That allowed Missouri to dink and dunk and control the clock all game long.

Even if KU goes 10-2, wins the Big 12 and makes the playoffs, if that second loss is to KSU, this season is still going to feel like a disappointment since we haven’t beaten either team since 2008 when I was still a student at KU.

  • It hurts because it’s been the simplest of plays that have killed the last few minutes of half’s today and last season. Catch the football, hold on to the football, throw the football to your team and tackle the guy that’s right in front of you. We literally could be 15-1 it the last 16 games by making simple plays that D1 power 4 guys make routinely every single week. I’m glad we have the off week to refocus but WV at home is a must win for bowl eligibility

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, I was not too keen on the punt. Ironically their lack of a kicker may have hurt us because several times (I think) they went for it on 4th when they would have kicked a FG instead and those plays kept drives alive instead of resulting in only 3 points on made FGs.

  • @wissox ya that 4th and 10 from the 28 prob isn’t even attempted with their kicker available. A few others are borderline.

  • Nice to see KSU get the loss they deserve, the question on X is if LL drops the KSU game does his seat get hot? I think if we reach a bowl game it does not. Miss a bowl with his stadium demands and the money Booth has just thrown in the program. Then the seat gets warm.

  • @Jhawk69 he looks elite when playing us. We’ll see about the rest of the season

  • I was screaming at the tv on that stupid punt. Mizzou was moving the ball with ease and giving it back to them was the end. And what a message he sends to his offense… he doesn’t trust their execution on big plays. @Texas-Hawk-10 called it right… indefensible!

  • Honestly it didn’t even cross my mind that they might punt. After the Henderson drop I just assumed they would keep the offense on the field.

  • We gave up.

  • KU was fortunate to be in the game, based on yardage. I’m sure that’s been said alot already but it was baffling

  • Thinking this morning, Mizzou just maybe a ready good football team going forward. Not sure I could name 10 teams that go into Columbia and are favored right now. Fresno beat Oregon State by 2 scores last night and we spanked them. The conference continues to look wide open after yesterday’s disappointing non-conference showing. Iowa state maybe the only clear favorite at this point in the season. WV our next opponent was just beat by Ohio 17-10. We have a lot of winnable games left on the schedule. We must reset and refocus this off week and get ready fro the meat of our schedule.

  • Not sure how good Oregon state is and remains to be seen where Missouri stacks up. Their QB was impressive at key moments and made few mistakes.

Historically they are somewhere in the middle of the SEC. Never in the top 25% and rarely in the bottom 25%. Did we lose to a team that is exceptionally good or another mid SEC team?

The rest of season awaits, including the entire conference. Plenty of opportunities in front. But improvement needs to be urgent and immediate. And BOTH sides — offense and defense — have equal need to improve.

  • College football is stupid. You can challenge all sorts of things that benefit Missouri, 3 times last night in fact, but when a fumble is batted into the endzone and refs miss it it can’t be reviewed. If they saw the batted ball, not sure how that would have been placed. Would we have been awarded possession somewhere? If Missouri had been awarded possession they almost certainly would have scored a TD instead of just the 2 points from the safety so maybe it benefited us if MU gets the ball instead?

  • @wissox Not sure - in the last Chiefs game McConkey intentionally swapped a fumble out of bounds - it was a 10 yard penalty. If it was batted into the end zone I’m guessing it’s a safety.

  • @dylans we recovered it so not a chance they would gain possession, we like get it back from the illegal touching point plus 10 yards. The pick play in the end zone on 4th down was also a huge miss by the refs

  • @kjayhawks Yes, so we gain a first down maybe and they have no points and maybe regain some momentum. Big missed call.

  • @BShark if that game was in Lawrence we win by 2 td’s. It’s Black and White

  • A few years back when we were one of the worst football teams in D1 we weren’t highly critical towards the coaching. Now, fan expectation is to WIN GAMES! What comes with that is a more critical perspective on the coaching. I’m a big fan of Lance… still… he made a monster error in the late punt and has to be called out on it. If he keeps that mentality, to that degree, we will remain very limited on how many games we can win!

  • If they fail the 4th down conversion, Lance is a failure for not trusting the defense. If he punts, Lance is a failure for not trusting the offense. If they go for it and get it, Lance is a genius. 🤷♂

  • @dylans i dont think anyone here would blame him for going for it. It was the right choice.

Fresno got a field goal to go up 2 with 30 seconds left and then a pick 6 to create that margin. They did not dominate Oregon St. at all.

I also can’t say anything about ISU being a clear favorite when their two FBS wins are 3 point wins over teams two teams who right now look like they will finish in the bottom half of their conferences. They have not been dominant at all.

Texas Tech and Utah have looked like the two best teams so far to me, but I also fully acknowledge neither team has played anybody good yet, but Utah did at least play a P4 team on the road and dog walked UCLA. I think now that Whittingham has moved past Cam Rising at QB, they’re going to be back to being really good.

  • @drgnslayr KU has a loser mentality in football. It appears it’s happening to LL by osmosis. You can bet your butt he didn’t win 47 National Championships up north (it was 47, right? A buttload anyway) by punting on short 4th down situations. He maybe didn’t even have a punter. It’s a catch 22. You can’t be a winner with a loser’s mindset and you can’t get rid of the loser’s mindset unless you win. Come on November 3rd.

I didn’t never watch the KU football game. But reading this it is 100% stereotypical fan reactions.

The Chiefs fan site is hilariously stereotypical following their loss as well. (I did watch that shit show.) - it’s the refs - with numerous examples. It’s Spags - with numerous examples of the defense not being ready. It’s Reid - with numerous examples of the offense not performing except in dink and dunk passes. Kelce - too old. Mahomes - too many commercials. Etc.

I’d just say the Chargers came ready to play and whooped the Chiefs. That the Chiefs didn’t come ready to play and it cost them a game. The Chiefs should get better when their top two receivers get back. Spags defense takes times to coalesce- usually around 4-5 games to come together.

    Fans gonna fan

  • I didn’t love the late punt but honestly it probably didn’t matter at all. The analytics say it’s about a wash either way. We also should’ve never been in that situation. The Henderson drop was brutal. We get that first and are cooking with gas.

Big picture, we’re fine. To me we look like a 8-9 win team. With a few lucky bounces we can play in Arlington. Not because we’re elite (we’re clearly not) but the rest of the league looks very mediocre. 7-2 gets us there and is doable.

Now that we’ve seen us for 3 straight weeks it’s the perfect time for a bye. Get healthy, especially at LB. You can almost do a mini fall camp and do some extra fundamental work. Lance’s teams always come out of byes very strong and we have 3 straight very winnable games coming up. There’s a good chance we’re sitting here in 4 weeks 5-1 and headed into our second bye 8-2 or 7-3.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Fair points, I just saw the box score on Fresno game. I keep forgetting Utah is in the conference now lol

  • @wissox They got the safety and then scored a TD on the next possession from the punt after the safety. That is a 9 point swing based upon a missed call. Now they probably would have scored another TD the next possession regardless, but we will never know. JD’s throws seemed to be off as well most of the game. Henderson had a couple of missed catches that would have helped tremendously. The offsides penalties were aggravating. I was always told to watch the ball and not the QB.

  • @patoh3 yes Henderson has the big drop but JD over there him on two walk-in TDs at one point as well. Thats was the knock on JD when Bean was here, Beans long ball was better.
