Lets Dance - Arkansas vs KU

  • So at this point I have to ask is Cal a better coach than Bill? Just beat us with a 13 loss team while not having one of their best players.

  • @kjayhawks No he isnt. Self is still a great coach, he just struggled with roster construction the last couple of years. Hunter was an awful add if you are going to start KJ and Dejuan. You had to surround KJ/DeJuan or Hunter with shooters. Instead he played all 3 and added Storr who is a slasher and needs space and is a streaky shooter at best. Griffin to me is the red flag. He is a player that Bill Self would NEVER recruit. I’m still shocked he was on the team.

  • @BigBad the more I think about it, the more I think the game has passed Bill by. We all knew this wouldn’t work and as you said no shooters and it was obvious. Why couldn’t he see it?

  • It’s just like I posted above, the last two years I’ve been screaming we can’t win playing KJ and Juan 30 minutes a game. It’s a pretty obvious assessment for anyone that knows anything about basketball. The logical conclusion is Bill felt sorry for them because of their personal struggles and rode with them anyways.

  • I just think Bill had a massive soft spot for KJ and DeJuan and didn’t recruit over them. I kind of give the guy a pass. KJ lost his mom to cancer while at Kansas and DeJuan had a rough childhood. The roster is now a complete redo. Bill has a chance to right the ship quickly with Peterson, Flory, and some transfers. If he cant compete next year it may be time.

  • @BigBad I hope he actually embraces the portal and uses it to fill needs instead of trying to build around players that shouldn’t be starting at Kansas. I’ve been told by several inside sources Bill is retiring for sure within the next two seasons. I hate to fire a legend but you can only live off of yesterday’s success so long. At this point he is running this program into the earth at a rapid pace.

  • I disagree. We need to find the right kids out of high school, keep them around, and use the portal to fill gaps. Or use the portal to snag guys who will be here 2-3 years and not one year rentals.

  • @Jhawk69 in a perfect world you have a little both but yes we need some HS kids they will stay and develop. I’m Hoping Flory and Passmore are two of those guys. At least for a few years, flory maybe in the nba next summer

  • Bill Self #2 all time BIG 12 coaches win percentage, Roy is First. BIG ten. With at least 100 games in the league coached Bill Self is #1 all time. Don’t give me any of this crap about Bill Self. The man literally is first or second on the all time lists of two of the best leagues in the NCAA all time. I fully trust he’ll get this ship righted soon.

  • Well there is Always what 64 ? losers at the end of the year- - just so happens we are one of those losers.- -Only ONE trophy , not 64.- -Bet there are a lot of Pissed off losers today across the Nation

Some probably standing on the edge of a cliff ready to jump- - some wanting to fire the Coach- - Some wanting whole ne rosters- - some just saying I QUIT I’m done watching Basketball, BUT YET the Sum still came up this Morning and guess what - -were still Alive and breathing- - -YES GOD is Great

  • @wissox i started a new thread to try to break down what previous Bill successes might look like if he were to repeat them now

  • KU should have 6-8 players on the roster next season that have never been apart of another college program depending on eligibility and if they stay.

Elmarko, McDowell, Flory, Passmore, Peterson, Tiller and possibly Calderon if he makes it and Clemence if he stays.

Coit and Shelby are also good locker room guys even if they aren’t originally Jayhawks. Coit is a natural leader and should be the person running things in the summer when coaches can’t be involved and Shelby is a high IQ practice player so really KU already has at least 8 and possibly 10 players for next season that should be able to hold newcomers accountable and up to KU standards.

I think a nucleus of Jackson, Peterson, Flory, with Diggy and Passmore rotation level back ups is a good starting point for next season.

I do think a lot of people are sleeping on what Elmarko will bring to the table next season. Every scouting report on him praised his leadership which now that he should be running the show, will come through.

I’m not saying Elmarko leads the team in scoring next season, but I could easily see him as the second leading scorer behind Peterson.

  • @wissox I don’t care about what he has done years ago, it’s about not ruining this program at this point. If we have yet another year like this next season are you gonna say the same? He was great one time…. So that’s means little to what has happened the past two seasons and what can happen going forward. Blind loyalty shouldn’t outweigh common sense thinking because in the end you lose. If Bill Self loses the opening weekend next season he should no longer be the head coach at the university of Kansas

  • @kjayhawks Sorry to say but you are so far off base in thinking they will ever fire Bill.- -Bill will leave alright but it will be on his terms, no way will he ever be fired

  • @SlimShaddy54 oh they’ll never fire him and there are rumors of retirement very soon. I’m just saying he should be fired without a second thought if next season mirrors the last 2.

  • @kjayhawks I’m all for Coach Self , but ya I think NEXT Season will be when he calls it quits.

Had heard well actually he has said at different times , when asked how much longer he wanted to Coach and his response was well I’m not in the club house but I am quite possibly on the back nine, He wants to be able to still enjoy the Grand kids and spend time with his wife Wanda ?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Cindy , Cindy , that’s right. Thank you- – was Wanda Coach Williams wife by chance ?

  • @SlimShaddy54 his wife is Cindy, one of the most courageous things he could do is walk away from Kansas Basketball IMO. He was great for a time no questions, not willing to give up his 2 big philosophy and learn how to construct a roster doomed him.

  • @kjayhawks For a LONG TIME-- he ha done wonders for this KU program and amazes how quickly people turn from Sheep to Wolves when they don’t get that 25-28 win Season- -peoples first state is DAM Fire the Coach roflmao Fire the Coach just amazing

  • @kjayhawks said in Lets Dance - Arkansas vs KU:

I gotta say I’m shocked @kuballin10 isn’t here blowing his cork. Prob too busy helicoptering himself

lol nah saw this team and it’s coach for who they are. 2 years of the same roster running the same stuff that doesn’t work

We lost to the 9th best sec team without their best player (be like us winning yesterday without say hunt’s double double or whoever you deem our best guy) - a game we should have won by a mile

D2 turned it over along with hunt and kj down the stretch (kj obviously not after his injury which sucks for a good kid)

Bill stating kj and D2 are like sons - Bill yelling at Flory when KJ threw a bad lob pass. The list goes on and on hence the throwdown in Utah

Self’s a mess - he forces guys to fit his system instead of adjusting his system to his players strengths. He let nepotism run the program into the ground with back to back historically bad seasons for KU under Self

I wish he’d retire - because next year he will run DP with diggy (system guy and vocal leader according to the tea leaves) because the transfers will be thinking versus playing too much

We will pound it inside and try to open up the perimeter by playing inside out instead of letting stud guards dictate the game and create inside opportunities

His system he cherishes so much sucks and he has zero clue how to fix it besides just hoping guys pick it up better. In 2025 you won’t have 3 year program guys - freshman transfer or go to the league and stud transfers he treated like freshman

He’s making us Indiana and he needs to step down

  • Did we ever get a final KJ diagnosis? i don’t see any updates anywhere.

  • I’ve been looking too.

  • @kuballin10 So you see enough to think it is hopeless as long a Self is here ?- - Hopefully cause if you have then you will leave roflmao

We will all come out ahead head, you won’t have to watch , of course you don’t have to now= = but yet you do, probably so you will just have something ro wine about.- -So see you leave , you win and you leave , we don’t have to listen to the BS anymore- -WIN- -WIN situation.

We will make sure Coach stays that way we know for sure you will be gone-- - -AWESOME

  • Yikes! Starting to feel like Rupp Rafters circa 2022-2024 in here. I could have sworn we won a national championship just 3 years ago. SlimShaddy54, I very much like your idea of those who are too weak to deal maturely with loss just opting out of watching games and/or commenting.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk torn Achilles! Surgery this week. Last 3 mins of his KU career

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Thats poetic injustice. I would not be shocked to see KJ commentating some day but I hope that day is far off at the date of his choosing.
