  • @kuballin10 our roster in 2022 wasnt good enough to win a championship for 80% of the season, and yet they did

    Let it breathe

  • @approxinfinity They went 14-4 won the big 12 regular season and won the big 12 tourney and started peaking at the right time……this team doesn’t have that

Definitely some bumps in the road but there was a distinct change in March that took place

If you think that same distinct change will happen this year let me know the current injured player who’s going to become our leading scorer in our first 3 ncaa tournament games

NCAA rd of 64- 15 points leading scorer

    Rd 32 - 20 leading scoring

    Sweet 16 - 23 leading scorer

Championship - 14 2nd leading scorer behind Wilson and Big Dave with 15

  • @kuballin10 if everything happened based on a script we wouldnt watch

  • @kuballin10 You already know who the player is that’s capable of having an Remy like impact if the light ever comes for him like it finally did for Remy, and no he’s not injured right now.

I don’t why you’ve chosen to a bigger asshole than normal the last couple of days because I’ve never seen someone complain about a 51 point road win in conference before, but chill out and stop being an asshole to people who don’t view things the same way you do.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 all pac 12 player and much more efficient scorer >>> second team all big 10 and volume shooter (enjoyed your harden comparison that was $)

We have two hardens guys that can put up numbers but constantly lose (aj and more importantly Hunter who’s never won anywhere he’s played and we know why)

Not being an @hole just talking about the team. You came at me in the other thread and you don’t see me calling you an @hole just defended my points

We looked great at ucf but ucf guarded us like the water boy did the scout. Good bounce back win but do you want me to rant and rave over beating ucf on the road? We are Kansas….if that’s what this program has come too yikes

If we go beat houston or isu on the road - that will have my attention and show we might be a squad to compete for a title

  • @approxinfinity You watch the nfl right? 😉

  • @kuballin10 You are being an asshole to others for the past couple of days because you can’t let other people enjoy a 51 point conference road win against a solid team without raining on their optimism because nothing Bill Self does is ever going to be good enough for you.

Dylans and MR11 were being optimistic about KU possibily turning a corner, made positive comments that did not involve or mention you, but yet you chose to respond to them by being negative about KU’s future like normal and couldn’t let them enjoy the win. That’s how you’re being asshole.

I’m going to tell you right now that you would be an absolute failure of a college coach because you’d absolutely suck at the political side of the job. If you try to run off every good player because of the next shiny toy coming along, you’d earn yourself a very negative reputation in coaching and recruiting circles of having zero loyalty to any player and would have to rebuild every year because everyone would be fearful of being recruited over every year.

  • If we all were to block him, there would be no threads composed mainly of responses to him.

Alternatively, do not feed the trolls.

  • Eh. I dont think he is trolling too hard but i appreciate @Texas-Hawk-10 explaining the perspective of why @kuballin10 is grating on him at present. People are different and its not always clear how without context.

I think its good to explore what can be improved even after a 51 point win, but there is a difference between “what can be improved” and “why Bill Self and this team arent capable of winning the big one, period”.

  • @kjayhawks said in Central Flaw rid unh-uh:

    @BShark yep that’s old news

Some people on here act like Bill hasn’t known the entire time. 🙂

He isn’t dumb he just chooses what to live with.

  • @Jhawk69 said in Central Flaw rid unh-uh:

We had a good team in 2023. We won a brutal Big 12, were in the top 5 all year, and were a one seed. Using an early tourney exit to try to say otherwise is an illogical argument. Anyone can get bounced early.

    We sucked last year.

We will have to see how we play this year. We have had highs and lows already and it is too early to say. My guess is that we are better than last year but far from being one of Bill’s best squads.

RE 2023: Bill literally had to have a heart attack to not make the second weekend that year. Now, do we beat UConn probably not but who knows.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Scroll up……

@approxinfinity tagged me regarding lineups which I commented on Shak starting and what I liked

I explained how poor UCF’s defensive gameplan was along with two more modern options Self would never do because he’s too stubborn

@Jhawk69 responded with sarcasm and zero comments about the actual defensive methods

@approxinfinity said state of KU bball is good and hard to be down after that big a win which had me shocked after KU went 20-14 in 2024 play

I asked ONLY @approxinfinity about being Title contenders and good enough this year

@MR11 piped in on his own with his reasoning and I rebuttaled

He’s a big boy I’m sure but you going out of your way to stick up for just some standard discussions on the team after 51 point win being title contenders or not is cute!

  • @BShark Why does he choose the lesser player? Is it all about trust and not about performance? He values one over another clearly even if the trust limits the performance

  • @BShark Uconn rolled that tourney there isn’t any way in my you can see how that played out and look back and think we had a chance even if Self was on the sideline

He’s been on the sideline for bigger blowout loses versus worse teams (usc and zags) for me to act like we had a chance against uconn that year

  • @kuballin10 if I look back at some of the rosters that overperformed during the “lean years” i am struck by how the sum was greater than the parts. I think Bill has that mindset always and values specific players higher because he believes the team operates better with them on the floor. What is debatable i think is how much of that is Bill Selfs gut, and how much is quantified or even quantiable from our vantage point, given that we dont have enough data to see how the replacement would perform with as many minutes. Bill has seen much much more of the replacements at practice than we have, but again i think we can speculate on how he assesses them in practice. Would love to see practice sessions.

  • @approxinfinity We can all agree on that

Some guys practice how they play and others are gamers - when the lights come on they perform well but in practice it doesn’t mean as much and they don’t

I think of the 2012 Trob/Tyshawn team with Teahan as over performing. That roster though had three guys that made nba rosters (not bmac as he didn’t play)

I’m struggling to see besides Flory who needs way more minutes - who on this squad is nba talent because you 100% need it to win it all

  • @approxinfinity I do think it’s pretty clear that Flory is better than KJ. KJ has “earned it” by being here 4 years blablabla but Flory just has a better impact on the game at this point.

  • @kuballin10 2019 Doke injured, 2023 Self hospitalized, 2024 McCullar injured. The seasons where we are at full strength we tend to do well.

9 rebound KJ doesn’t hurt the team. 2 rebound KJ does. 6 fouls per 40 Flory can’t play the entire game.

  • Flory’s minutes are on the rise. Over the past 5 games he has logged 7, 8, 14, 17, and 21. I don’t think we can complain that he isn’t playing enough.

Yeah that was a great match-up. I don’t bet but I told my friends to bet the KJ rebounds over.

Not that Bill has to answer to me at all, but I feel like at least 20 minutes from Flory is ideal.

Top 7 rotation guys for me right now (not in any order): Hunt, Flory, Zeke, Juan, KJ, Rylan, Diggy Coit. Storr should be based on talent but mentally he is not there right now. Shak also has the potential to easily pass Diggy. It really is classic Bill to see Shak go from the dog house to starting.

  • @kuballin10 If you are taking a post where I said they have a chance to compete at the highest level and taking it to mean that I fully think they are the best team in the country and going to win the B12 already down a game, that is on you man.

I was responding to a post where you implied KU didn’t have a real chance to compete for a F4/national title and I 100% disagree with that statement.

  • @kuballin10

“@Jhawk69 responded with sarcasm and zero comments about the actual defensive methods”

To clarify, my comment about taking wins with a grain of salt and panicing over losses was not a response to you or directed towards anyone in particular. It was meant to be a lighthearted joke about the tendency of sports fans to panic too easily.

Have a good day and let’s hope for a win vd ASU tonight.

  • @Jhawk69 That’s a great point….don’t think those teams win it all at full strength but they definitely would have a lightyears better chance based on those names

Hope we throttle asu tonight for the crowd to give them some juice

  • @Jhawk69 He needs 20-25 mpg based on his impact! Dudes the only legit nba prospect on the roster and Bill can’t limit the team because he favors another player

    Hope the trend continues

  • @MR11 Man twisting words about “compete at the highest level”.

I asked a straight forward question - do you think this roster and team is good enough to reach a final 4 and win a title.

I don’t but clearly others do and hope I’m wrong

Sec is a gauntlet but all those teams would score on us so easily and do enough to limit us offensively that I think we’d lose by 15-20 and the game in the sweet 16 not be particularly close

  • Btw, regarding “scoring on us easily” this team is much better on the defensive side than offensive according to kenpom. Im curious how that holds up.

  • That might be a topic all to itself. 5th in the country in DRtg! How do yall like them apples??

  • @kuballin10 Dude I have been nothing but straightforward, how is me summarizing my original post as thinking “compete at the highest level” twisting of words? Is a number 1 seed not qualifying as playing high level college basketball? I’ll even post it below so you dont have to scroll back to see it. You don’t need to start every message with a snarky comeback, I’m not trying to attack you here just answering your questions.

“Yes? Auburn look good but who else are you really scared of that makes you think they can’t? KU’s biggest opponent is themselves and there is no reason that they can’t improve to the point where they are competing for a 1 seed. Not going to say it is a lock to happen, but there is definitely a “real chance”.”

  • Appreciate the civility in this thread. Differences of opinion AND differences of conversational styles, and yet we haven’t all cancelled each other and resorted to name calling. Well done. 1000 points to everyone.

  • @kuballin10 I agree he deserves to keep playing big minutes. 25 mpg might be ideal.

What I like about this team is we can play any combination of our 3 bigs. We can play KJ with Hunter, Flory with Hunter, or KJ with Flory. We will probably give all three of them substantial minutes and play the hot hand moving forward.

  • @MR11 Fair enough - you think they can win it all and I’m not seeing it from this squad

  • KU has the easiest remaining schedule in our conference. Predicted to finish 15 up 5 down. Nationally we have the 4th best defense. Offense is rated 10th best among the KPOM leaders. ASU has two starting guards shooting 48% on 3PT so one of them will have a career high tonight. IF KU makes 10 treys we will score 80 pts and snatch the win. Will this be a let down game where we come out low energy well who knows. Would love to see a solid game with our Cinderella group of Storr, Griffen, Shak and Coit all trying to be the pretty sister.
