New NIL tournament for next year
-
This Season kinda sucks / bites BUT just got to suck it up and ride this out
-
Just imagine the meltdown @kjayhawks would have had if he was a Kentucky or Duke fan 3 years ago when they went 9-16 (Kentucky) or 13-11 (Duke) and neither made the NCAA Tournament, or a UNC fan 4 years ago when they went 14-19?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 well I can’t really argue with that. I just can’t remember a year in my life where I’m not looking forward to March madness.
-
I’ll admit I’m prob a little bit more doom and gloom with yesterday not being a good day all around. My 14 year old dog died and we got hammered so I’m admittedly not in a great mood.
-
Very sorry for your loss, never easy.
I haven’t felt this upset in a while after a KU game. Some frustration from past things catching up and dealing with the realities of how poor the offseason went coming into the season. The unknowns of Hunter and Kev coming up are certainly not helping what’s supposed to be the best part of the season, the part we wait so long for. Not this year I guess
-
It could get worse. Misery is “oh-fer” in league play. We can revel in that. Can you imagine?
-
@kjayhawks Sorry to hear man, hang in there. I am sure Self will never go with such a thin roster.
We will be back next year.
-
Speaking of NIL…this may be of interest to some.
A California legislator has offered a bill that would pull back the veil on NIL deals.
Would mandate that collectives and other entities provide this basic info to colleges, which then would be made public:
— amount of NIL $$ provided to athletes and their families
— the team/sport
— provide total compensation and value of deals by sport and gender.
— would not require names.
Looks like a gender equity play.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Very interesting. Thx for this. I had not thought about equity implications of NIL at all.
-
BTW, it’s from the same legislator (Nancy Skinner) who was behind the first two bills in the US to give students the right to NIL compensation
-
@rockchalkjayhawk might be a big disadvantage for UCLA and Cal State schools to have to disclose what players actually get.
-
@kjayhawks sorry about your dog, that sucks. I’m gloom and doom because I’m used to KU being awesome, not awful.
Plus my job sucks.
-
@nuleafjhawk my job is starting to piss me off as well lol. We have a new Golden Retriever puppy
-
I have a golden, Rio just turned 8. If you’ve had them before, you know they’re super smart, but only if you work with them. He knows so many sentences and hand signals. He’ll growl at me if I say, BATH. He loves everyone. Bad thing is shedding! What is he/her name?

Yup. But, as they did previously, I imagine other states will quickly follow suit if this one passes. So maybe temporary disadvantage. I haven’t read more to see if this bill stands a chance. Gotta be heavy pushback from the “private” collectives.
You’d think rumors about NIL cash would spread quickly between players. Guessing kids already know what each school pays. It makes sense to me that eventually the public knows what public universities or their collectives pay kids. By name, too.
-
@kjayhawks I’m sure the new pup will keep you busy and help take your mind off of other things.
I shouldn’t have whined about the job. It puts food on the table. Food that tastes like regret…
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Girl and daughter named her Lilo from lilo and stitch Disney movie. It was her 6th birthday gift. She is in the mouthing/chewing stages so it’s fun.
-
@kjayhawks sweet! I have a scar on my arm from some puppy teeth.

More transparency with anything involving salaries, which NIL essentially has become, is a positive in my book. I would love to see a federal version of this bill so that everyone has to disclose what their NIL budgets look like.
-
I don’t think I want them to know what ours is. I would like to know how they (us) split them up between sports.
-
I wonder how long universities will continue to receive public funding for semi-pro sports? Will it come to a vote like the Royals/Chiefs next time they want a new arena!?!
-
@dylans My vote is no. I’ll play HORSE with the neighborhood kids.

Yup. And what if universities eventually want a cut of the NIL cash, arguing that they provide the platform to given them stardom?
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Unintended consequences. Who knows how it will play out, but it’s all changing
-
I know not NIL tournament related but saw where there will be no Big 12 & Big East battle this upcoming Season
