Transfer Rumblings

  • By and large, I’ll like to see what the rest of the class is. If we go out and land another wing, plus another actual guard (Wade Taylor anyone??) then I’ll be thrilled…

Losing that recruitment is going to bother me. I can’t lie. Lawrence kid…grew up rooting for the program…scoring PG.

I kinda get it though, they want athleticism and he struggles in that way. Plus he wants to be THE GUY. Sounded like Kugel and Mayo were in a similar recruiting space for the staff ie wing guard type at our level (Mayo turns it over a lot in the Summit League so he’s not a GUARD in P5).

Maybe I’ll be wrong, but wanted to pass along what the current buzz is.

No problem with reporting what you’re hearing….i just don’t want the staff to be married to starting anyone other than Furphy and Hunter. I truly want them to get competition for everybody else…

Mayo isn’t a PG and wouldn’t be a PG here. The dude has a career turnover rate north of 15% and has gotten worse each season. So another case of a certain someone incorrectly assuming Dejuan Harris will impact a recruit that plays a different position than Harris.

He can be a primary handler at times and give us a scorer threat from the backcourt which we currently lack in a big way.

  • I think they viewed him as closer to a wing.

  • I am fully confident we will sign a guard still.

I’m still not convinced Dickinson will BE BACK. plus with them hitting from what I heard course I’m not like others in reporting but what I’v heard , with them going after this Rutgers Big 6"10 - -^'11 pretty big boy - makes me wonder even more especially with Flory.

I sure the hell don’t want to lose Flory because of a bad move, if Hunter goes then possible the big from Rutgers also then Flory KJ spot 5 would be ok- -but if you have Hunter , Flory and then try to bring in a third big from Rutger’s possibly – just can’t see that although have heard too that they are lookin for that possible third big. and Flory - -just don’t see that combination

There is no situation where he needs to be a lead guard at KU. He is a scorer, bit being a scorer doesn’t mean he’s an on ball player at KU. His best role at KU is going to be an off bench role which if he’s not looking for that, then he’ll go elsewhere and we’ll be fine. The best players available in the transfer portal will be coming available in May as the NBA Draft withdraw date nears.

  • Theoretical

    Tyrese/Kugel/Peavy/a defensive big man

Sub in Cryer or Wade Taylor for Tyrese potentially. This would be a home run portal group.

Why on earth do you think Wade wants to come here and move off the ball to play the 2……?

    Geez the staff is idiotic

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Feel free to share where you are pulling the 15% from?

Mayo turned it over .7 more than d2 this year. Not even a full 1 turnover a game more all while averaging 10 ppg more than d2

I love how people say Mayo couldn’t cut it here athletically and yet ignore who our literal starting pg is athletically

Staff has full blown lost it when it comes to talent evaluation….

Juan in Mayo’s spot wouldn’t even average 10 ppg and with his loose handle he’d turn it over just as much

  • @TYOHawk He 100% could be the lead guard here and produce just as well if not better than d2. Having a scoring threat with the ball in his hands and I guarantee he can swing it side to side just as quick and do the junior high jump passes from under the goal after driving baseline

I mean how in the hell could we ever replace such production!?!?!?!

The fact the staff and the blowhards who think they walk on water with their talent eval’s tells me all we need to know. Mayo is easily a better ball player than d2 but how dare we ever suggest that….

  • @BShark Please stop with Wade and Cryer…… especially Wade. Freaking just fantasy land here

    Tyrese I haven’t heard yet but he’s a possibility

  • If the staff wants another guard I’d be happy with someone like haggerty

  • @kuballin10 he can’t hear u!

  • @rcjhdraft shoots 28% from three and turns it over as much as d2…against bad competition….if the staff doesn’t want Mayo but wants this guy man they are hypocritical

Uconn literally doing what everyone thought bill would do carrying the torch

Bills system requires jr’s and sr’s. That doesn’t happen in this landscape as they transfer or go pro.

The guys who stay that long stink and are here for a reason and the transfers in don’t pick things up quick enough to keep a starting spot. The all pac 12 player never could regain it and it was always said he couldn’t defend up to Bill’s standards. Bills standards for defense are real patient with d2 but not everyone else. Being in the right spot but unable to stop a cold because you’re slow and unathletic must still be good for him.

Now the round of 32 blowouts and defensive metrics for his teams recently make sense

Uconn gonna go and win 4-5 in the next 10 years unless Hurley leaves….the way they play ball is exactly how it should be done in college

  • @Crimsonorblue22 He being Self? I’ve already put together my bullet points and emailed him tonight with screenshots of where he needs to #levelup

  • @Crimsonorblue22 oh he sees it whether he ignores me or not we both know he reads it….

  • @TYOHawk Kudos to you for dropping truths on tos….you and I view the game and roster similarly

    https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/zeke-mayo-1.html

Go look at his advanced numbers. 13.2% turnover rate as a freshman, 15.5% as a sophomore, and 16.5% this season for a career turnover rate of 15.4%.

And BTW, his defensive metrics are absolutely atrocious against Summit League players, but we’re supposed to believe that he’ll be better against B12 players? Mayo makes Timberlake look competent on defense.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 D2 is in the 20’s……

Hope you aren’t a consultant for the staff

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 keep prioritizing defense and Hurley and crew will prioritize offense and dominate for a decade

Bill prioritizes the wrong things hence why d2 has never been recruited over

Did you really just claim that the team that’s giving up 53.5 ppg in the NCAA Tournament so far and was 10th in the nation in scoring defense doesn’t prioritize defense?

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 They also defend inside out.

Self was supposed to take the torch when K retired but it’s Hurley. Dude has adapted to modern basketball. 1 stud big and 4 dudes that all can shoot, attack and high bball iq. It’s like euro ball or the nba spurs where the ball movement and cutting helps it all work with ease.

You can’t keep up with them offensively and they know it. They score at will…other team presses and can’t throw it in the ocean. They defend to run you off the line while rotating help D…letting you try to hit tough 2’s all game

Hurley must have stolen my notebook this summer

Good for you, now go get a job coaching somewhere since you know everything about basketball and how to build and sustain a winning program. Should be real easy for you do that, especially the AAU and NIL politics involved in recruiting as well.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Workin’ on it brotha……

  • Look the frick out , oh what’s his name has been hittin the moon shine again— -got ahold of some corn whiskey too huh there Sparky. - -roflmmfao - -you are a piece of work that’s for sure- - just keep pumpin that sunshine lmao-- I find your good for some chuckles anyways cause these statements you try to lay claim to are just laughable.–Have a great night there BUB

  • @Crimsonorblue22 How is that possible? Are the people doing the nominating currying favor with HCBS? Why would D2 (Harris Jr) be included? Ballin says he is no good. Ballin has a fixation on D2.

  • @patoh3 No Bill does and that’s been the detriment of the program……

He’s the one name on that list that clearly doesn’t deserve to be there. He’s on it because of the name on the front of his jersey not the back.

We all watched every game and saw the teams results along with his individual play.

  • Guess the nominations come from people that don’t know 💩. Good thing we have the know it all on here, although he’s not getting much respect. I think Remy is in Iceland or Greenland, sounds like a lovely place for you. I think he could use some coaching.

  • Can we not talk about our starting PG in the TRANSFER thread please???

  • @kuballin10 still waiting on you to start that thread…

that idiot has had a thing for Juan all fricken year-- has no clue, just wants to see his own posts and gets off o that. he has a stiff for Juan totally infatuated with Juan but he is playing his fiddle to his own little party -just ignore this idiot

  • @jayballer67 I think @kuballin10 has thoughts worth discussing but they are spread all over and a little too “me against the world”. Would be much better presented and received if focused in a thread.

  • @BShark It will affect the transfers we get or in this case don’t get but yes, I can take it elsewhere.

@Crimsonorblue22 I didn’t see Mark Sears on that list so honestly I’m not real confident in who selected it

Explain how the PG effects the 2 guards and wings that KU is clearly targeting?

  • Should we start hearing movement on our own roster in the upcoming days?

  • @TYOHawk

End of next week I’ve seen rumored for some movement

it’s never ending with this guy - not once will you see him anywhere around when we were winning in comments, even then this guy dogs Juan. If he is that miserable- -find a new team – OR better yet go apply for the head Coach’s job.- His crap gets old. hard to focus on a thread when you have to deal with that.

  • When is the team dinner? When are the year end “exit meetings”? Next couple of weeks I’d guess.

I would guess this week. I’d assume all the decisions are made though.

  • @BShark said in Transfer Rumblings:

Some Zeke Mayo talk ramping up lately. Might be nothing. We do need shot takers for next year though.

Ha, how’s about that initial post! Nicely done. Hope the recent rumbling is accurate as well!

  • My guesses is that Self does a major reshuffling.

    STAYING Dajuan KJ Furphy

    LEAVING Hunter McDowell Elmarko Clemence

RESHUFFLING Some of the end of the bench guys will be replaced by guys who can compete for a role

COACHES Guessing Sadler and a bigger name are gone

  • Like I have said earlier, I’m just not convinced Dickinson comes back , and with them going in on or as a article reads how they are turnin up the heat on Cliff Omoruyi from Rutgers - -like it says only intensifies things - Cliff is 6’11 10.4 ppg- - -8.3 rpg- -& 2.p blocks – shoots 51.2 from the field.-- - I’d be ok with him.

I think if Hunter stays and liff comes - -we lose Flory with the ay High School recruits are de-committing these days-It would not be a good --Now if Hunter leaves , Cliff comes and Flory stays - -let KJ play some spot 5 it would be ok.–Cliff is having a zoom meeting this week with Coach Self and entire staff it said , thins could get intense

Read anothr piece from not the Phog BUT Through the phog, he guy predicting who stay – -who goes.

He thinks right now from what he is hearing about 60/40 Johnny i gone-- think Jackson leaves - -he says ya he knows sure at the moment he said he isn’t leaving , but he says what do you expect him to say on the spur of the moment.- - Jackson transfers–McDowell will entr portal , Clemmons gone , - Dickinson gone

Like Fitz was saying with the way the portal is today, you can reconstruct an entire roster in one Season and be a quality team

Look at Alabama in the final four with a totally re-constructed roster this year- -think we are gonna see a lot of change.

Kind of sad , you can’t really get to know the guys really well anymore they either entr the draft and gone or your team gets some NIL offer from another team and they are gone–will be inteesting to see what ends up

  • Kugel is a done deal to Kansas is what I’m hearing, not pleased
