He might be back on the bench for Kansas soon. Personally I would absolutely hate it, but I know some people think he’s actually a good coach or something.
Wanted to relay current scuttlebutt.

IMO he was a great assistant coach for KU Bigs although game has evolved since his time at KU.
I think he can still contribute to development of Bigs especially on improvement in technique and creating angles, moves etc. when playing close to the basket.

It certainly seems like the play of our bigs has dropped off over the years after Danny left. This season the most glaring deficiency is rebounding technique. Whether its connected to not having him anymore or not is still unknown.

I don’t think Danny is a great head coach by any stretch of imagination. I do agree with the above that our bigs were much better developmental wise when Danny was here.

Will be interesting to see if that changes if this happens. He was only here a few years so it could be chalked up to just having the right guys.

Very weird timing with the tight lipped Self if this is true. Maybe Case is gonna spread his wings?
Or as hinted at this year, maybe Townsend is out the door.

yeah gonna be honest I get the nostalgia and everything but his recent coaching history is so bad.

Norm is the bigs coach and he’s done a great job. Self has always said they do a lot of the same things.

Dok was a freak athlete who could grab the ball far out with his crazy wing span and dunk everything. I don’t remember how good was his overall game especially when playing with back to the basket. Did he develop good post moves.
Danny did superbly well in actually developing guys who were not that athletic Darnell, Sasha, Shady, Morris twins etc

He got us a title. He should always have a job here if he wants it in some capacity.

I don’t remember Danny ever being a strong recruiter which is a bigger necessity than ever in the portal era.

@kuballin10 Anyone that’s coached before that is the slight bit competent can do that on about any team ranging from MAYB to NBA. Our defense is much better than Kentuckys and we already kicked their ass once.

@kuballin10 Funny, but painful too. Actually helped me see that it was a screening clinic that Oakland put Kentucky through.
As frustrated as I get with the team, I really don’t think that the issue is Coach Self. We don’t win that Samford game without coach Self and the older players. The team was ready to play last night and survived a very tough matchup.

@kjayhawks Oh it’s definitely not Self…he has some philosophy faults but it’s by far the players that are the issue
