Jay bilis

  • I’ve watched the drive by Taylor over and over and Jay Billas goes crazy like Taylor was tackled. Taylor was slightly touched before he started his dive but nowhere near what jay was describing. If he was fouled who fouled him ?

  • He was saying that Mason fouled him. I think you could argue that…you could also argue that Taylor lost his balance and that caused the contact. If the shoe were on the other foot…I would complain, but in the next breath acknowledge that calls go both ways throughout the game and if you are depending on a call to go your way at the end of the game…you didn’t take care of business earlier. That was exactly the way I felt with the Staten call.

  • @5541-james he was out of control! Kinda like the walk he had the time before!!! We could really question several calls that were called against us too. As we’ve learned before, can’t be in a situation where the refs decide the game. So sorry jay! Not really!! Team will beat Taylor ball and have twice!

  • Dead on. I was rewinding shots left and right-numerous phantom fouls, and no calls on both sides.

And as I posted yesterday Oklahoma was handed a victory at the end of the games by the refs.

  • What happened?

  • @5541-james Frank was knocked to the floor 10 times and got 1 foul called.

  • @5541-james

Jay is a Duke lawyer. And he has the same deep down resentment most all Duke fans have. Because of their success since 1991 they believe they have ownership of the game. Do you think it was a fluke that the second highest bidder on the basketball rules was a Dukey? Why? The rules has NO SIGNIFICANCE to Duke’s basketball history. They wish they could go back and rewrite history… slipping them into a significant role. Truth is… there is NO SIGNIFICANT ROLE FROM DUKE. They have a rich heritage, but that isn’t enough for the lawyers. 4th on the all-time win list… just not enough. And it is unlikely they ever catch us. 'Nuff said.

Remember the old bar sign… “Lawyers must pay in cash!”

  • If anyone wants to know how JB feels, watch the replay (as I just did) of yesterday’s game.

    I don’t know - it probably doesn’t mean anything that he’s wearing a burnt orange tie…

  • @nuleafjhawk I saw that too! Do you think jay really went up to Barnes and said that was a foul? Barnes-no class! Or is it jay bilas-no class?

  • I may be biased, but I think Barnes has plenty of class. Bilas was calling fouls that weren’t and visa versa-as I said I replay plays when I question a call. At least half the time the refs get it right, 1/4 of the time it could go either way, like a charge vs block. Then there are touch fouls and guys who get hammered and there is no call at all.

  • @JayhawkRock78 I like Rick Barnes. He seems like a decent guy. I actually felt sorry for him yesterday (can’t say that very often about any opposing Big 12 coaches) but I just don’t think he’s a great coach. Not the game yesterday, but in general.

  • @nuleafjhawk I don’t want him to lose his job. We have seen some pretty good talent down there. Someone mentioned Gregg Marshall for his replacement. (Puking)

  • @nuleafjhawk Can’t feel sorry for him as each season round about mid-February his players do not like nor listen to him. He constantly throws them under the bus and never acknowledges any issues with his coaching talent or game situations. People here have seen it season after season. When you have so many kids transfer year after year that speaks volumes about a coach and the program it runs. People here cannot understand why his contract was extended and want him gone.

  • Barnes has a final four appearance. The only other two times Texas shows credit for that was in the 40’s. He has won or tied b12 championship three times. He has come in 2nd 5 times including ties. He has made the dance all but one year. Not a bad record, especially when he has to deal with KU every year. Texas is a football state. Basketball is a distant second, and I’d say baseball gets as much or more attention at some schools.

  • @JayhawkRock78 did he win big 12 coach last year? Or Kruger? It was Barnes.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Barnes won it last year and three times previous. I’m sure there is frustration at UT, but on the other hand he’s done more than most at UT including Penders his predecessor.

  • The funny part about it was they were screaming for a foul because “Perry slapped his arm”. They watched the replay and saw Ellis didn’t touch him. So they freak out about a bump that has been happening the whole game.

  • I may be repeating an earlier post, but twice they showed a replay where Bilas said the call was wrong. Both times the replay showed the opposite-I wonder if he was looking at a different camera shot than what we saw on TV.

  • @JhawkAlum That was funny to me too, jays outrage didn’t match anything we were looking at on the tv. I guess at best Mason fouled him but that would have been a BS call.

  • @JayhawkRock78 On one of those replays the other announcer even said, “Well, maybe Ellis got him?”

  • Gotta remember announcers sitting 40ft away at ground level, so any action in the paint, their eyes are behind…way behind the play.

Personally, I like Jay Bilas. His take on the college game is a wonderfully logical one…and it also must be remembered that its been decades since he played, so I think he has easily compartmentalized the fact he played at Duke. Also its well-known that he wasnt a bigtime player at Duke.

In sharp contrast, about 3-4 weeks ago we got to hear Doug Gottlieb go on & on with his noticeably anti-ku rhetoric.

  • Banned

Seen the play more than once. It was not a foul. Taylor slipped and fail to the ground. Just my opinion.

  • I like Bilas. To me he seems to call it like he thinks he sees it. There were also multiple times that he said Selden or Mason got fouled on drives to the rim. The play at the end of the game was magnified because it was at the end of the game.

On the other hand, I have never heard Fraschilla not agree with a ref’s call. My wife even noticed it in the K-State game. She asked if announcers could get suspended if they disagreed with a call on the floor. I told her that they would not, but very few have the cajones to say anything about a referee’s call. At least you can’t say that about Bilas.

  • @JhawkCB what do you think about bilas going up to Barnes and telling him it was a foul and Barnes using that to make excuses?

  • That was a tough situation. I think based on the way the game had been called, it was a foul. Watching it live I was actually surprised there was no call. I think we got lucky on that.

It wasn’t a blatant missed call, but one that I would not have been surprised if it had gone against us. They had been calling that type of bump for most of the second half. I think Bilas is actually a pretty fair announcer, honestly. He doesn’t like how physical the game has gotten, so he tends to argue for more fouls rather than less, so it doesn’t surprise me that he would expect that call in that situation.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I think that was bush league. I am fine with announcers being opinionated. That is Bilas’ appeal to me. But neither he, nor anyone else should do that. And Barnes shouldn’t report that to the press, if that is what happened.

Overall, I think the officiating is getting worse and worse as the kids get stronger and faster. There were a few fouls called on both sides where it seemed as though there was anticipation of a foul, rather than one actually happening.

  • Texas got the call back tonight. Same situation at the end of overtime. Chery for Baylor drove into the Texas Trees and there was contact and no call. Game over. Texas wins.

  • @bskeet about the same thing I said on another post!!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Great minds… 🙂

  • @bskeet no doubts!

  • There are currently several programs battling for the “best program” tittle. Some are the “dirty” programs such as UK and some are the “clean” programs such as KU and Duke. Bilas has a vested interest in taking KU down a peg or two since it directly benefits Duke. He is as much a Duke homer as Pat Forde is a MU homer…we need to get us a KU homer in the analysts ranks.

  • @JayHawkFanToo did jay b ever say anything about Barnes ratting him out? So unprofessional, if true!

  • @JayHawkFanToo

“we need to get us a KU homer in the analysts ranks.”

    We tried that once…
