2023-24 Schedule

  • Looking ahead to next season, I see KU is playing in the Maui Invitational again and holy crap is that field absolutely stacked next season, even more than normal. In alphabetical order, the 8 teams playing in Maui next season are Chaminade, Gonzaga, Kansas, Marquette, Purdue, Syracuse, Tennessee, and UCLA.

That’s potentially 4 top 10 teams, could even be up to 5 depending on how the transfer market shakes out in one tournament. Marquette, Purdue, and UCLA are all potential top 5 teams next season while Gonzaga and Kansas are potential top 10 teams. Tennessee should also be ranked and could be a potential top 15 team. I don’t know if there’s ever been an 8 team preseason tournament where potentially 6 of the teams were ranked as highly as these 6 are projected to be next season.

  • Our kids live in Maui. Maybe I need to look into this!

  • @mayjay have to take me. Heard tickets were already sold out.

  • Tennessee ranked? Why.? Honestly, why would KU be a top ten team at this point?

  • 247 ran an article yesterday or the day before, predicting which blue blue had the best chance to get to the final four next year , and crazy but they gave KU the 2nd best chance behind Duke.

They based this on returning starters , incoming and then the portal. - They said with the names had been mentioned in connection with KU through the portal was huge. found that very interesting

It’s the Sporting News way too early rankings after the Elite 8 games. They have UCLA at 2, Purdue at 4, Marquette at 5, Gonzaga at 10, KU at 13, and Tennessee at 18. Obviously a lot could change based on what happens with the transfer market and who stays and a goes from some top teams, but I don’t find any of those rankings unreasonable at this point. With UCLA for example, does Adem Bona stay or go, does Zach Edey stay or go for Purdue, does Drew Timme use his Covid year at Gonzaga?

Tennessee also has several major contributors that could return for their Covid seasons if they choose so. Vescovi, James, Nkamhoua, and Plavsic could all potentially return. That’s also around the time Zakai Ziegler should returning. If they Vescovi back especially, Tennessee could be a lot higher than 18 next season.

  • Even before the entire schedule is released, here’s what’s know about KU’s schedule next season. Known opponents include Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, UConn, and Yale. There’s also the 3 games in Maui with an absolutely stacked field that could include at least 3 top 5 teams and a couple of more in the top 10. The contract for the Big 12/SEC Challenge has expired so that’s gone away now.

We should see 5 more non conference games added as it sounds like the Big 12 is planning on staying with an 18 game conference schedule. I’m assuming the rest of those 5 games will be against low major schools considering what KU already has on tge schedule for next season.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Schedule is loaddeeeddd and I love it - see what we are made of.

Worked just fine for Uconn this year

It will take us some time to gel but we should be LOADED.

  • @BShark Depends on who we get between Mgbako and someone from the draft but yes, this team should be better than last years team!

I don’t think we need Mgbako but I sure would like to have him.
