You love to see it. How does Udeh project as a defender? Is he a shot-blocking type player?

very good protector I’ve heard runs rim to rim aggressive rebounder and rim protector

  • @Marco said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:

    @jayballer67 feel better now? Lol…

    Tinsy bit lol

  • @BShark His job? Be our inside monster.

  • Alright people, odds on Rice playing for us? I say 55-45, in our favor. What say you?

  • Udeh was a massive get, with Dick, Zuby and hopefully Rice. I know, @jayballer67 doesn’t approve of my post, but oh well lol

    90-10 against atm imo

@rockchalkwyo Don’t think Rice sticks (hurrr) but it is nice to see recruiting back.

I completely agree. As you said awhile back, the Death Star is back in operation.

Last two classes needed to be awesome, and they are with time to go in the current one.

Had to make up for 2020 which is already all gone. Not terribly surprising given there was a JUCO and a D2 level guy involved but man, I thought Bryce was going to be good.

I did too. But I think he’s going to be overseas bound professionally. Ditto Grimes (I know, someone wasted a pick on him), who I thought would be a star. If I remember right @Texas-Hawk-10 called it, on Grimes.

  • I think Grimes would have been fine/okay at KU had he stuck it out. Like his JR year would have been pretty good. There were definitely some warning signs there, a guy on the 247 board was a bit down on him, basically predicted his FR stats pretty close to exactly and got a lot of crap for it at the time.

  • Grimes just got in the Knicks game at the end of the half so that’s fun

  • Id say Bill meant it when he said we needed to get bigger, stronger, more athletic. Sure like these last two classes. Man I’m ready to tip it off!!!

  • It’s hard to compare players because they all bring something different to the table but what do you all think about Udeh? Did we just get another T-Rob?

  • @Oldmanhawk

I couldn’t find a good comp for Udeh from past KU post players. Some of the things he does well now remind me of Doke (dunks, defense). The long wingspan as well. Jerry Meyer said he reminded him of Thomas Bryant (Former Indiana Hoosier, current NBA player)

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:

He projects well as a defender. Scouting reports on him note his rebounding/shot blocking are currently his best attributes. Jr year averaged just under 10 boards and 2 blocks a game. Saw a few articles he’s not only a good weak side rim protector but he’ll let offensive players get into him without fouling then wait and time blocking shots so definitely sounds like he has some skill there. I’d love to know his official wingspan cause he appears to have a 7’2 or higher. I’ve seen it mentioned he has a 7’2. Love his upside

you and me both - -less then two weeks now

  • The first two years I wouldn’t expect anything being Self creating angles for him to get dunks and clean up put backs. Might not evolve much beyond that at all, but that still would make him a damn good college player if he is an elite defensive piece.

  • Found this off Rivals site this morning on his commit thought I’d share what they said : - - this was on what they said KU was getting in Udeh.

A guy that plays even bigger then his massive frame due to his wingspan. Not just a bully under the glass , possesses plus athleticism which he uses in the post , and when it comes to impacting games on the glass. Says Ernest was a walking Double , Double this summer , some finesse around the bucket finishes with both creativity and regularity. Is a willing defende and Udeh’s size and athleticism allows him to change and block shots.

What Udeh said about KU : - - You can tell that the fan base really loves the players. It is really a blessing , because everyone knows they are a big time school and for me to be getting that kind of recognition is really an honor. - - -I think we are going t like this guy - - like him a lot

  • @BShark

From unranked to Top 30 in 6 months says a lot about his development. Seems like his offense is starting to take off to round out his other skills. Sounds like he’s got a jump hook but will need to develop more post moves. He’s coming to the right place to maximize that

  • Well think that’s a wrap for our recruiting for 2022 for High School kids anyways. I just have this feel we will be active in the Portal again We gonna be losing let’s see Probably Jalen , Oachi David , Remy , & who else - - know there is more. Portal will have a surplus of transfers again

  • Some more opinion from various people on Udeh. - - saying Ernest is Dangerous offensive rebounder , quality rim protector on defense , engaged on that end and controls space as a rebounder.

A few negatives brought out - - Tends to play upright , needs to refine his footwork , not a ball handler , and not a shooter from distance. - -These things are fixable over time. KU has been good with developing Bigs - -look at David as a Freshman to David as a Senior - - - -BShark thoughts how long - -I think he is a three year player maybe four - - your thoughts. I think pretty sure bet he is three unless he develops faster, he has come on to the scene pretty quick though. Whatcha think ?

Had to edit found some more saying Udeh - - plays mean , runs the floor , protects the rim at a high level ( THAT I LIKE ) STRONG RIM PRESENCE. cleans the glass , and has really picked things up on the offensive. - - I think we are gonna like this guy

  • 7’ guy is not a ball handler. Really makes you think.

  • Kevin Durants don’t grow on trees apparently

  • Hope Udeh becomes DehMan

  • This post is deleted!

  • @BShark Joel wasn’t much of a ballhandler though either, was he? Look at him now. I gotta be honest, bigtime surprised at the pro he turned out to be. I thought he would be solid, but come on…

  • Man If only I was smarter with computers. Just got through watching an 1:07 minute innerview with Udeh from Zach Schuz Schuzmaker from the site Kansas Jayhawk Basketball Recruiting and fan page.

I’m telling ya this kid has class written all over him , what an innerview. - -Wish I knew how to share it here. I got it off my face book. -I know people would like it.

One thing thought was pretty funny , Zach was asking Udeh about telling Coach he was coming to KU> -Said he called Coach Self and said Did Lawrence have some really good Pizza places cause Pizza is his favorite food. Coach says well ya we have some good places , and Ernest say well I’m going to know where they are cause I’m coming to KU - Coach says What ? Are you serious man lmao.

Udeh is KU’s 25th highest recruit in history talked about going from being unranked when he got his 1st offer and thinking how he might get 5-10 more then 6 months later getting 2-3 offers a day. Going from one offer to over 40 offers. - wish I could bring that hear so you could listen. -lots of interesting stuff on there

  • @jayballer67 he’s not the 25th highest recruit in history right?

  • @approxinfinity 25th highest rated for KU based on composite rankings. Important to remember that it only goes back to like 2003. He’s behind Cole and ahead of TRob. Good company.

Good stuff @BShark, helping Jayballer out with the post. I thought that you were the killer of dreams lol?

  • @Marco Brandon Miller will be going to the GLeague. #DreamKiller

Long but worth it Marco. - You can tell the kid is just - -what’s the word I’m looking for? - Grateful for the opportunity , Blessed , for sure a family type person countless times talking about his mother in this and other clips. Tals about Oachi and Nigeria, I just get this feel we are REALLY going to enjoy this kid - -Thanks for sharing Marco

  • @BShark Looking at that list, it kind of sucks to see that 12 of the top 30 either transferred after not doing much here, or left under a cloud, or never even played at KU.

  • @mayjay Yeah while rankings are nice, they are not the end all be all. You also see guys like Svi and Frank near the bottom of the list, both were of course great Jayhawks.

To that end, I really think Bobby and Udeh in particular are tremendously good fits for Self, but we will see.

  • @BShark and alot of those guys had red flags before even coming. With all that is going on (and Self and the program will survive it), I think that - and he already is, imo - Coach is going to be a hell of alot more particular when it comes to signing guys. We are Kansas, can get quality athletes while still having standards.

I am not a big fan anymore of early enrollees for example, it begs for discrepancies. And I’m not knocking Cuffe, just think that alot of schools are cooking the books and we need to be cautious is all.

  • Texas landed Dillon Mitchell, 4/5star wing.

  • @BeddieKU23 Beard is loading up, no doubt.

  • Chandler Jackson done to FSU

  • 5 star Brandon Miller will announce his decision soon. Recently visited KU but it appears long time favorite Alabama would be the choice if he doesn’t go pro

  • @BeddieKU23 Been done to pro ball for a bit now is the word

  • Crazy, only 18 of the Top 100 remains uncommitted at this point.

  • @BeddieKU23 Seems to be a recent trend. Maybe we see more of it because of the way the transfer market changed things. Used to be guys that weren’t top guys could try to wait it out for a better school as people got more desperate in the spring. That isn’t going to happen now with immediately eligible transfers across the board.

Yep, Covid, being able to take visits earlier + the portal definitely puts a premium for a lot of these guys to lock up a spot. It was interesting to see just how many kids have already decided. Not going to complain as a fan, it’s nice to know KU got some guys that your not waiting 5 months from now to try and land…

  • Udeh with 13/12 on 5 for 9 shooting against an OTE team. So I guess those OTE teams are playing prep schools. Lol.

  • Well Miller didn’t go pro like so many thought BUT chose Alabama instead

  • Bama has some strong ass recruiters. Damn.

  • @BShark said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:

Whether anyone believes it or not , people saying he was going pro - - -Then when we got added back , I knew there HAD TO BE a reason , if he was going pro he wouldn’t have bothered with re-adding , BUT i still figured we had little chance -we had a chance but little. - - So no real huge surprise , I think I would of been more surprised if he would of went Pro

  • @BeddieKU23 said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:

4 star PG Richard Isaacs committed to Texas Tech.

Recruitment with KU fell off a cliff. His ranking also dipped a bunch. Weird

    Reopening his recruitment again. Flags…

  • Once committed Tre White to USC. Plays with MJ Rice at Prolific and have to say White could be a pretty good College Guard/Wing.
