Agbaji on ESPN mock draft board

  • #46. Only Hawk listed, like that’s a surprise

    Other Big-12…

    #1 Cade Cunningham

    #16 Kai Jones

    #23 Greg Brown

    #25 Terrance Shannon

    #29 Davion Mitchell

    #30 Jared Butler

    One other to note…

#38 Bones Hyland, KU made a run at him late few years back but he ended up signing with VCU. Now averaging 18 a game and a 2nd round pick. Ugh. @BShark

Indicative of the fact that is the least talented team under Self, and perhaps one of the least talented in the past few decades - at least in terms of NBA caliber players. I don’t really think Agbaji is NBA-ready. He is a poor ball handler, especially for a wing player, can’t create his own shot, and doesn’t have much lateral quickness. Perhaps he can develop into a 3 and D bench player, but he has to become a much more consistent 3 point shooter.

I simply didn’t sufficiently appreciate coming in to the season how little athleticism this team possesses. We’re slow at every position and play way below the rim. Not a good combination. We see the result when 3 point shots aren’t falling. When Self teams have struggled on offense in the past, which has not been an infrequent occurrence, they could rely on the defense to win ugly, grind it out games. As demonstrated against Tennessee, this team doesn’t appear to be capable of imposing its will defensively or making another team at all uncomfortable in running sets and getting the shots they want. Zero rim protection and lack of speed to cut off drives or close out on 3 point shots.

  • @DCHawker

Agree I don’t see Ochai jumping the way the season is going. He really has to dial in on his handle and become more of an all-around offensive talent. He kind of hovered in this area last year as well before falling off. His shot is improved this year though, believe until the last two games he was 2nd in 3-pt% in the conference. For a guy that couldn’t even start on his AAU team he’s come a long way and have to think another year with actual coaching development on campus could make a real difference.

The lack of athleticism is truly felt in the fact we can’t run lob plays for a big.

  • @DCHawker ditto myself. The lack of athleticism is all too obvious. The way for this team to win is pass, pass, and pass some more using as much of the shot clock as needed while looking for high percentage shots.

    I knew he was a good one…

  • ahhhh…draft boards. Love them. They always give me a chuckle. I guess you haven’t seen NBAdraft.net mocks.

    2021: Ochai #26 Marcus# 53

    2022 Bryce: #13 Jalen: #34 Braun: #37

    Here’s my favorite thus far…nbadraftroom.com

#50 prospect of 2022 Bryce Thompson SG – Kansas – Ht – 6-5 – Wt – 175 – Wing – NA – Fr – A walking bucket. Thompson scores from 3 levels and makes the game look easy.

their definition of look easy and my definition are 100% complete polar opposites.

  • @bmensch

At this point espn is the more reliable source since they talk to GM’S

  • Agbaji’s athleticism has always been what has gotten the attention of NBA scouts and his lack of skill has been what’s kept him from making the jump. Agbaji needs to keep working on his shooting so he can become a 3&D player at the NBA level and that’s his shot at making the league.
