Nimari Burnett is done.
-
Is he gonna go smaller school or is he a dude we should look at?
-
Stat line is AWFUL
-
Wow. Really liked him coming out of HS.

Yeah but tell that to the basketball people that overvalue pedigree and hype coming out of HS. This will hurt Beard like some players in the past dinged Self. Which honestly might be fine for Beard, he does work with underrecruited guys. Sounds like his people are upset that Beard brought in McClung and Burton became eligible. Burnett was looking at a lot more PT before that happened.
Burnett was absolutely a disaster on offense.

Beard put together a really weird roster as well. I’m sure he couldn’t predict getting both transfers eligible immediately but Burton is not very good (I certainly wouldn’t play him over Burnett which was happening), McClung is a “me drama queen”, and they just have way too many guard/wings to keep everyone happy. I thought Beard would use Burnett more as a big PG but from the games I watched didn’t seem to be the role he was being used in

This one is easy to understand from the player perspective. Harder from the coaching perspective.
Looking at Burnett’s game log, his minutes were all over the place. Here’s his minutes in order by game on the season. 19, 20, 9, 19, 15, 30, 18, 21, 15, 18, 22, 6. That’s a player that has no idea what his role is supposed to be. That is an impossible way to develop as a freshman.
From the coaching side of things, maybe they saw something in practice. Hard to say. But either way, its a bad look. Either Beard misread his talent, or mismanaged him.
-
Definitely the latter. I thought he was a perfect fit for Beard. They just have way too many guards to please everyone especially Burnett who came to school with NBA goals

I’m not really so sure about not having any idea on role. If your looking at his minutes.
You look at this - - the 1st 4 games he averaged between 15-20 minutes in 4 out of the 5 games - -thats a pretty consistent fair amount of time in those. - -then he spiked a 30 minutes for one game - - then in the final 4 games he logged minutes he was seeing in between 15-21 minutes a game.
That’s a pretty dam good amount of minutes for a freshen - -actually quite a few minutes pretty consistent in those minutes. - -think it more Burnett then Beard - -he should of been able to figure out his role getting those types of consistent minutes
