Harbaugh

If he became available and was willing and the money was there, would you make the switch from Les?
-
Without a doubt. Like yeah he’s struggling at Michigan but it’s an upgrade.

How is Harbaugh an upgrade over Les Miles at this point? Age and clock management are probably the two areas Harbaugh has an advantage over Miles. Harbaugh has a terrible record in big games at both Stanford and Michigan along with the 49ers. He hasn’t beaten OSU yet and will probably be fired after this season. Les Miles on the other hand has won plenty of big games at both OSU and LSU.
Harbaugh would’ve been a great choice in 2009 to replace Mangino had Perkins been patient and let Harbaugh finish his season at Stanford, but that’s not what KU needs now. Harbaugh has never had to build a bottomed out program before. Miles has done that before and is doing that now.
Another advantage to Miles over Harbaugh is this is likely Les Miles final job whereas Harbaugh would likely use KU as a springboard to somewhere else and not necessarily leave KU in great shape.

Negative. First, it could blow up the 21 class and we’d be starting from scratch. Again. Whatever he had at SF and Stanford he seems to have lost re: getting his teams to play physical, disciplined football. He never really developed a QB at Michigan. Remember when Shea Patterson was supposed to be the guy? He was worse at Michigan than Ole Miss. And now they’ve changed schemes entirety. Harbaugh has one of the best DC’s in the country and done not much with it. We wouldn’t be getting 2010 Harbaugh with all fire and brimstone. They look like they’ve quit on Harbaugh. Our guys have not quit on Les.

I am in the keep Les camp as well. I think he’s done a great job recruiting and putting together a staff. Still needs to find a QB, but that has been every coach’s Achilles heel here.
-
I’m not in to khakis! My cousin did some research on coach harbaugh, my great gma was a harbaugh. I guess we are related some how. So impressed! he should be!

@Texas-Hawk-10 Harbaugh would never have to worry about “Big” games at KU. There are none.
It wouldn’t matter who is coach. Andy Reid would never win a single game at KU. You have to have at least one or two decent players and NOBODY wants to play at KU.
Sorry for the rant. I do feel a little better now. It’s not personal.

I Agree - -we should not be going after Harbaugh , not that we are. I know it may not seem like it but Les is getting the players in place , the talent level is getting better for sure - -his 21 class seems real solid, we have to get some continuity if we keep rolling Coach’s very 2-3 years I just don’t see how you can expect any Recruits to commit when they never know from one year to the next who will be the Coach.
Les started here practically Rock Bottom - - With Beaty and all the Juco’s screwed us - - I think it is working/slowly but surely - -Now is not the time to be Switching out Les.
Like someone said Harbaugh even if HE COULD do things - KU would just be a stepping stone and we would be right back in the pits AGAIN

Never said Harbaugh would win a game at KU this season. But, because he’s the kind of guy that uses programs as springboards until he lands where he wants, he wouldn’t be at KU long and wouldn’t build a foundation of HS talent like Miles is. He’d end up somewhere between Weis and later Beaty on the JuCo/transfer dependency scale based on how he’s attempted to build Michigan up. Best case for KU is that he gets KU to 6 wins, bolts to a better job and leaves KU in similar shape to what Weis left for Beaty of scholarship shortages and unbalanced class sizes.

Staying the course is important. The 2020 class was the first in over a decade (I think) to be all HS talent, and is the highest ranked since one of Gill’s first classes. 21 is on track to be a bit better. And a lot of the emphasis in these classes is on guys who will take time to develop and become Big 12 quality players (OL, DL, LB, TE to some degree). Now if we’re getting housed by 40 every game in 21, I’ll start to be nervous. But this was always going to be the most challenging year for the Miles regime. Something like 10 of Beaty’s 2018 recruits are no longer on the roster, when in a normal program that takes mostly freshmen, those 10 would be RS sophomores just figuring it out. But if you look at the class (https://247sports.com/college/kansas/Season/2018-Football/Commits/) it’s hard to find many contributors. Similar story for 17. Out of 23 enrollees (again, who should be upperclassmen at this point, only 7 are on the roster, with only 1 (Kyron Johnson) being a regular starter. The only players left from 16 (who would be 5th year seniors) are Kyle Mayberry, Chris Hughes, Malik Clark, Kyle Thompson, and Julian Chandler. Ideally you’d have about twice that many.
Long story short, you don’t change contractors after ripping down to the foundation and figuring out all the work that needs to be done. Stick with your guy when he’s got the right plan and won’t cut corners, even when he tells some off color jokes and might go of on a tangent about aliens.

Updated the numbers again and this is kind of wild. We’ve played 24 true freshmen and 8 RS freshmen this year. If you add up all the players in their 3rd year or less (so true sophomores, RS frosh, true frosh) that’s 51 guys. The youth is just bananas. Now some of that is covid-related and that this year is a freebie, but that’s a stupid number of young guys getting reps.

That might seem on the fringes way up there in NC. Pretty much normal here in South Cakalachee!
