Kent State Golden Flashes
-
IT IS DECEMBER 28TH AND THERE IS NO SET STARTING LINEUP.
Famous Alums
-
Like the Kent State Alums, this has already been a bizarre season.
-
-
Two weeks earlier at Kansas.
-
I was a Medical Corpsman during the Vietnam Nam war. Wrong place, wrong time. An American tragedy.
-
How the K-State game just ended.
-
@wrwlumpy LOL !!
-
Powerful stuff.
-
This team looks like the perfect opponent to face after the Holiday practices. Temple did scare me with the long road trip and against a packed house in Philly. The Golden Flashes will not be take lightly. This is a good warm up game for a surprisingly powerful UNLV squad.

The truth about the Temple game.

This will not be an easy game. Kent St has 4 players in double figures, they don’t score a ton a game so expect them to try and keep this a low scoring affair. Manley has made only 7 2 point buckets, 36 3’s so clearly guarding him like a blanket is the way to go. Same for Jackson and Brewer, about half their made baskets have been 3’s.
I don’t expect to have seen any major improvements from last week to this week. I do think playing at home will bring some comfort to the guys. Can’t believe this is only our 5th official home game of the season. 4 of our next 5 are at home so that will be good for them and the fans to help these kids get back on the right path.
An easy win will not tell us much, they aren’t a big team that can bother our bigs. We can hope to see some individual improvements, maybe Ellis will have a dominate game or Alexander will show some post moves. A close game will tell us how much more they need to work on in the next few weeks.

K-State starting to reap the rewards of the Bruce Weber era. They will start missing Frank Martin sometime next season, if they don’t already.
-
I’ve missed Frank Martin from the day he left. I know he was a hard azz… but I like guys like that and he turned the kitties into a competitive team. We had some pretty good games during his stay.
Everyone enjoyed watching Frank blow his top!
-
I’ve missed him, too. He made K-State better, which made the Big 12 better. Weber will turn K-State into a lower level power conference team, which doesn’t help the conference or KU.
-
Here is one from memory lane,
-
Frank Martin outside the court was a completely different person than the one he projected on the sideline. A very humble man that cared deeply about his players, not only as players but as individuals as well. He was also very respectful of the Kansas program and it traditions.
-
Right on!
And thanks for the CSNY upload!
Yeah, those were wild days in our country. I was pretty young then, but old enough to go to demonstrations and get gassed. When Kent State went down the entire country went into shock. It was the feeling like the gov had said “enough is enough, no more protests.”
Looking back now, I think we were very fortunate things didn’t escalate further in '68 at the Dem Nat. Convention. National Guardsmen armed with .30 caliber machine guns and grenade launchers. It could have gotten a lot worse than the clubs and tear gas.
I’m also surprised there wasn’t a bigger reaction after the Army Math bombing in Madison. That was the moment when the protest movement “upped the ante” on violence, to the point of terrorism.

Now it’s time for Basketball.

Kent State roster shows a 7 foot 4 inch guy, who luckily for us only gets 1-2 mpg.
