2020 Recruiting

  • Good for him if he can find a team. Too bad he didn’t have his academics in order for KU to grab him at the time.

Kyree’s only intentions are to get to the draft. KU is ok without that

Wait , is what your saying is that isn’t the dream of any kid? - to live his dream of being able to someday play in the NBA? - -I hope that’s not what your saying. - I bet you ask any young boy growing up and then and kid as they grow older when playing what their ultimate dream would be when playing Basketball is -It would be to be able to make the NBA dream come true - -not just Kyree - -if that is your line of thinking then KU would be ok without every player that stepped on the floor - -

Or maybe I should re-word this a little - let me say any kid that has the talent such as Kyree - what is their # 1 goal? - -it is to be able to fulfill their life long dream of being able to play in the NBA , can’t really look bad at a kid for that - -it’s a job just like for any other person - - making a living - -only he is getting to do what he loves for his job and be paid for it - Hell If I could of or would of had that type talent that would of been my only intentions too - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I’d be surprised if Walker goes to college. Reclassifying is just to get 2020 draft eligible.

  • @jayballer73

No not at all. I’m aware that many (maybe even a majority) dream of making the NBA.

  • @BeddieKU23 Heck, I still dream of making it to the NBA. But the Devil didn’t want what I was selling.

    KU coaches meet with Thor

KU coach Self and assistant Kurtis Townsend on Thursday made a recruiting visit to the Atlanta area to see J.T. Thor, a 6-9 senior forward from Norcross (Georgia) High School. Thor, who visited Oklahoma State last weekend, will attend the Oct. 4 Late Night in the Phog as part of an official visit to KU. Georgia, UCLA and Kentucky are are also on his list of schools. He’s the No. 52-rated player in the recruiting Class of 2020 according to Rivals.com.

“At this point right now it is definitely Kansas. They’ve probably made him No. 1 priority the most,” Thor’s brother, Jal Thor, told Cats Illustrated. “Georgia has been on him very hard too. They’ve been calling every day. They’ve pretty much said, ‘You’re our No. 1 guy. We have Anthony Edwards, We need somebody to come in and do what he does just like you, and be on your way out.’ They’re kind of pitching that.’’

Jal Thor added: “Right now we’re kind of still up in the air. We’re listening to what everybody has to say. We want to see kind of what everybody else is doing because he wants to play with a really good guard. That’s why Oklahoma State is in there because they’re close with Cade Cunningham. UCLA has Daishen Nix. So he wants to play with good guards so he is watching that closely. Right now we’re just taking it slowly. He’s probably going to pick somewhere by November, but he probably won’t sign until late.”

Sorry just sounded like you were holding it against Kyree for wanting to go to the NBA - - and with his skills he would be a fool not to want to – kid can do it all - -AN get paid for it

Let me ask you - -if you were a Basketball talent and was sure of being drafted wouldn’t you want to go . - -Doesn’t bother me in the least that he is wanting to do better - -falls right in line with many , many , many others - -be able to play the sport you love AND BE PAID while doing it - - - No Brainer

  • @jayballer73 I don’t know. Sounds like a no brainer but some of these guys and their handlers have no brains. They see only the here and now, they don’t think long term. For some, maturing in college is a better development plan and can help pave the way to more longevity. For others of course, college is a waste of time. The problem, I think, sometimes, is the concept that it is a no brainer as long as you know you can just earn money playing. Do you want to be playing in Turkey, or the NBA, in 10 years?

Promising. Thor is the kind of piece would should be adding since the starting frontcourt is set for the next 3 years.

“So that you can maybe worm your way back up, kind fellow!”

  • KK Robinson is down to a final 7. Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa St, Texas A&M, TCU, Vanderbilt, and KU.

Self and Townsend are going to be at Oak Hill today to check in on him as well.

    Definitely keeping after him.

His final 7 would make it seem like KU has a great chance if they really prioritized him but I can’t say there’s any confidence that would actually play out that way given how this cycle is trending. I do think KK would be a good fit at KU. Still trying to figure out why he’s a bit underrated to date. The Oak Hill change will probably give a good gauge on whether he’s better then his ranking suggest

  • Not KU but Kentucky Cleaning up in 2020.

Just got Lance Ware (PF) & Terrance Clarke- 2021 5 star stud to reclassify to 2020. This in addition to Top 10 Boston Jr & Top 50 SF Fletcher. Kentucky will probably add 3-4 more as well looking at their likely roster full of guys going in next years draft.

KU needs to make some moves. Everyone else is

  • Self was in for Moses Moody today

  • Will KU sign another basketball recruit ever again? Stay tuned.

  • @BShark Great question. If you go by 247sports list of the top 100 in the 2020 class, it’s not clear that the answer is yes. Out of the top 50, 25 have signed or at listed at 100% predicted to a school. Out of the 51-100 pool, 40 are signed or 100% predicted. For the dwindling number of unsigned, KU is listed as one of the top two predictions just once - and that’s second to OSU for Bryce Thompson.

I assume that HCBS and staff will pull some rabbit out of the hat once some of the unsigned players miss out on their first choices, but is there anyone out there that wants to play for KU???

  • Here’s how it appears to me. I always thought Roy put too much emphasis on one player hinging his whole class on him. As soon as he went to UNC where a system to buy players was in place his recruiting drastically improved. I sigh think Roy has any direct involvement in paying players. As soon as Bill showed up in Lawrence recruiting became amazing, some of that was a void at Kentucky, some was players getting paid. Now recruiting looks a lot more like it did under Roy when players weren’t getting paid.

Hopefully I’m wrong and there’s just a black cloud (fbi) hanging over the program for a brief moment.

  • I’m hearing rumblings that Bryce Thompson has Oklahoma as his first choice and is probably headed that way.

    Maybe Young 2.0

  • @alwaysajayhawk bummer!

  • Was fun to D him up!

  • Yeah, Bryce and Tre are really good friends, that’s another thing in Oklahoma favor

  • Didn’t they play in the NIT last year?

  • Duke picks up its 3rd 5* of the class in D.J. Steward.

  • @Woodrow Nothing to see here, business as usual.

  • So I see that Kyree Walkers 247 CB has been updated. - - Jerry Meyer is now predicting that Kyree is headed to Arkansas.

Dammit - -people saying he was headed over sea’s - -ummm NOPE - -the old CB used to have us at 50 % & Arizona 25 % - - Now Meyer prediction he will land at Arkansas - -huge pick up for them , glad he won’t come back and bite us in the Ass. - -Arkansas now at 50 % - - then KU & Arizona at 25 % - - - Strrrrrrrrrrrrrike - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DDAY LONG BABY

  • A KU assistant will be in today to see Dawson Garcia who announced his top 7 a couple days ago.

    https://247sports.com/Player/Dawson-Garcia-46050093/

  • KU will also be in to talk to Kerwin Walton.

    https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/kerwin-walton-232884

This class / cycle is just bizarre. I haven’t heard KU associated with a lot of these kids that they are checking in on. Usually we have a idea of who they are targeting, but it seems right now we have no clue. ( besides the complete obvious)

  • Walton is a big time shooter

  • Damm saw where Cassius broke Zion’s Vertical leap for Duke

  • This might already have been posted guys but - - -KK Robinson has 2 visits planned/official - - - KK will be at KU on October 4-6th. - - Isn’t our late night on the 4th? - -Will visit Arkansas the 18th-20th of October

His Coach says KK is the pass 1st PG - - excellent Passer , Can score when called on , - - -Great Court Vision , - - And gets in the lane well off the bounce

Decision going to be made BEFORE Christmas he says. - - Arkansas - - KU - - TCU - -Texas A & M - – Iowa State - - -Illinois - - & Vandy - - where we sitting with him? - -I think we gotta pretty decent shot myself - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73

I like how this one is trending. I personally would like to see him end up a Hawk.

Staff has been into see him a few times, the move to Oak Hill & having Dave on the team as an alum can help.

I know KK is ranked lower then some other targets but the film I’ve seen looks solid, personally think he’s a bit underrated and the move to Oak Hill will give him plenty of visibility to possibly rise in the ranks by the end of his Sr year. He could end up a high to middle 4 star player when its all said and done.

He is a solid 2 way player with a rep for being a quality defender already. Would be interesting having a southpaw PG on the team.

KU is his first official for late night. It’s not going to get any better then that wherever else he goes. Hopefully he loves the visit

  • Possible reclass candidate https://247sports.com/Player/Frank-Anselem-46055566/

@BeddieKU23 I think so, but it’s so early with him it’s hard to say for sure.

  • I kind of feel comfortable. Self always pulls stuff out in the spring. We have a roster that has good depth going forward. All is good.

-------------uh, if there wasn’t this unknown dark cloud looming.

    Have we visited him?

Late Night is always a good thing , Big Seller for us , the only down side I’ve heard from some is with the late night - -the Coaching Staff can’t really give him as much of that one on one attention with so many other recruits being here also.

Might be making something out of nothing - -but Glad at this point anyways he only has the 2 visits scheduled - -he comes in , we make a good enough sales pitch - - maybe he won’t even make any other visits. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23 You don’t think every coach has told recruits why would you go play for a team that is not going to be able to play in the tournament. I 100% believe it affected the 2019 class and there is no doubt it has affected 2020.

Absolutely its impacted both cycles. I just think the headlines will really scare off any recruits for the fall at minimum now. Could be overreacting here a bit but I’m sure the national chains will pick the story up and everyone will know
