2020 Recruiting

@jayballer73 I didn’t say that he was more talented than Nix.

no you just listed players that would be there - -I wasn’t pointing out that you had said ONE specific player - you listed McBride - - Garret - & Harris and talking about he may not come with those three - -All I’m saying not ONE of them more talented then him - -there would be NO reason for him not to come even with those three - -he should be able to win that spot

Happens all the time in recruiting though with kids choosing schools based on the depth chart. I couldn’t imagine KU landing or aggressively going after a PG if Devon wasn’t almost a lock to leave after this season? You can’t sell playing time to an elite kid if he’s going to be stuck behind Devon. But Self has a good message to sell if he’s already looking for his replacement with the expectation he’s leaving and the options behind him are unproven freshman right now. There’s always a chance a kid will be scared by the fact Self does have a few options on the roster but what can ya do. It’s recruiting. That’s why KU rarely goes after just one guy at a position.

Your 100 % right if Devon was coming back - -and your 100% right we don’t have to worry about that - -we know he is gone. - but if he was coming back - -no way would KU be recruiting a player of the caliber of Nix OR Love - - - But Devon isn’t coming back thus recruiting others like Nix & Love

Even with the 3 that was mentioned - If I were Nix or Love I wouldn’t be scared away for the opportunity to play with a blue blood program because of the other 3 that was mentioned. - I would have enough confidence in myself if I were as good asa people say - or if I felt I was that good - -I sure wouldn’t run from an offer from KU because of McBride - - Garett - -or Harris - - if someone was to tell me he wouldn’t or couldn’t beat these guys out for minutes - -then there is one of two things - -Either I’m not as good as being hyped -or I don’t want to work for the position - me - -I would let my game do the talking against those 3 - - AND FEEL PRETTY GOOD ABOUT MY CHANCES. – -rock chalk all day long baby

  • @jayballer73 Which is what I am getting at, many highly ranked players want to be all but guaranteed a starting spot. Maybe Nix and Love don’t fit into that category, hope they don’t, but if they do they might look at a point guard position that is already 3-deep if counting Garrett as a bit too deep.

Hell, I hope we do sign Nix or Love, and definitely want to sign Thompson who would get immediate PT at the 2, but the 1 position is more problematic due to the depth. Should we offer them? No doubt about it. But this isn’t the playground, “I’ll put my game up against all comers! I’m the Man, it is me vs. You!” More problematic than that. They believe their college choice to be an audition for the NBA, ofcourse they’re gonna take a look at who else and how many others are already there. We’re crowded at the point, that is just a fact.

good we can agree - -to disagree - - I just don’t see it that way sorry

  • Aren’t the minutes all but guaranteed if those three are the only competition?

  • @jayballer73 Garrett, Harris, and McBride isn’t “set”. We need a Nix.

  • @dylans I guess that would depend on their being complete scrubs. Hope I’m wrong, it wouldn’t be the first time. Do I want us to sign Nix? Hell yeah, I do.

  • Nix and Love. There’s plenty of room. Self’s system works best with 2 point guards on the floor.

  • dylans said:

Pretty much - -that’s why I would be saying if I’m Nix or Love those three sure wouldn’t be scaring me from not coming don’t care how deep the position is. - -Let those three worrying about Minutes - -I’d be knowing I’ve got mine. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73

I get what your saying. You want the elite kids to come in and earn their keep. If they are afraid of competition then you get a good glimpse at their state of mind and maybe those kids are not a fit for a tough nosed coach like Self. A kid like Nix is probably only in College 1 year so positioning his brand is important.

Even if Devon was coming back another year I think Caleb Love would still be a major target. He’s a combo guard in my eyes and we know the value those can have on this team. It might be harder to sell with Devon back but I think he’s comfortable playing either guard spot. Should be interesting

  • KK Robinson cut his list to 7 with KU among them. #9 ranked PG in the 2020 class. A mix of South to Midwest programs for him. KK is an Arkansas native and is being recruited by Norm.

Arkansas, KU, Iowa St, Illinois, Vandy, TCU & Texas A&M in the mix.

I wonder if we get him on an official. KK is a smooth lefty with good athleticism. Film is good

  • If KU pushes they can get him. Robinson and McBride are tight. But he’s also down the board a ways.

  • Adam Miller will visit KU. Date TBD. KU or Illinois, right?

  • FarmerJayhawk said:

I say we sign (no-brainer) the most high-profile point that we can get. Bill runs pretty much a three-guard set, I get that, so question. Do you think McBride and Harris are more than serviceable? I.e. can they as sophomores get us to where we want to go, which is always a conference and national 'chip? Where do you think they will play? 1, 2 or three? Who do you think we have more than just a chance to sign? If you say Nix - despite some of my posts - I would certainly not be disappointed. I want Thompson bigtime but he is a two, I’m talking PGs.

    Caleb Love

forgot about Miller. Lots of options it looks like for KU at the moment

Trotting out Harris and McBride as our starting guards next season would absolutely terrify me. Harris is an old school PG. He’ll only play on the ball. McBride is more versatile, but it’ll be hard to have them both on the floor given their slight stature. KU has a good chance (i.e. I think KU is in the top 3, will get a visit, and could close) at Thompson, Nix, Miller, Love, and Robinson. I think they want at least 2, maybe 3 of that group depending on how the youngsters develop.

My preference is Nix and Thompson. Both have great size and have complementary skillsets. Nix a traditional PG (probably the best passer in HS basketball) and Thompson is a scorer who can really shoot. Love is right behind them given his stupid wingspan (6’9), athleticism, and developing offensive game.

See you understand what I’m trying to say. May not be the best in trying to express what I’m trying to get across - -but what you say - -ya that’s What I’m trying to say. - I’ve always looked at it this way.

If your that so called stud - -getting all the hype/praise poured on you fro these so called recruiting experts - -if your that good - -then you sure in the hell shouldn’t be scared of competition proving that it’s your time - -your position to lose - and if like you say if they run from that - -you do get a good look at their state of mind. - That’s exactly it - -I DON’T want some 5 star stud that just thinks they should walk right in and just have the position given to them.

So if just because we are deep or so called deep at that position with McBride - - Garrett - - Harris there - you won’t come? - -Good – & Good luck - -I DON’T WANT YOU PERIOD. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I don’t have a good read on the situation. Seems like he’s Nike bound, but things can change fast… A bag of cash can travel mighty fast down I-35.

  • Let’s see, we’ll lose Dotson and Moss, Agbaji too maybe - guys, trust me, if we sign Nix and either Thompson or Love I would not be the least bit disappointed!

  • KU gets the last visit for Caleb Love. October 12-13.

Bossi thinks Kansas. I’ve heard the staff likes their spot as well. Visits will be huge.

  • @FarmerJayhawk @BShark Is there a heavy “swoosh” influence at work with Love?

  • Little interesting to hear. - - Off Kentucky Board , article where Nix says he STILL would like a visit to UK.

Their posters saying looks like Cal isn’t even really interested that much about him -Saying it’s looking like they are going to be really Guard Top Heavy

They talk like they are more interested in Christopher @ Point And Green at the SG - saying they already have Boston - - Good chance Quickly is back -Juzang good chance he will return - -possibility of Allen back - -and then Clark good chance of him re-classifying and thinkin they have a great shot at him

Sounds fine with me - -be just one less School we would have to go up against for the possibility of coming. - -Talking about Nix is really big/solid - - great passer - - but knock on him I guess is his jump shot – has no shot – - well we shall see how it turns out - -hopefully we can get a visit from him - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Have we heard anymore on the JT Thor thing? - -Do we know is he going to visit or what? - -Do we want? - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Anybody else heard anything on a offer to Javante Brown ? = - - -KU - - Texas A & M - - - U Conn - - -Indiana - - -Marquette - - Stanford – & Purdue - -7 footer - -I looked and off 247 he like ranked 115 th? - - ummmmm - this is what we want? - - just curious - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Haven’t heard of anything out of the ordinary.

  • @jayballer73 Thor will visit. Not sure when. Could be Late Night.

Not much will happen with Brown unless (until?) he reclassifies to 2020.

  • I read yesterday that Nix was going to cut his list to 5 today. Has anyone seen anything on that?

Also we made the top 10 for Jaemyn Brakefield. Bot sure how big of a player KU is in that one though.

Yesssss. Still got it. UCLA, UK, and KU is the “list within the list” IMO. Kentucky hasn’t offered yet and is in the top 5.

Jalen Green is their big target though.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Stated this sometime back. - - - off their Board - - they don’t think Cal is as interested in Nix as Nix - - -is in UK.

They are more focused on Christopher @ PG they say and Green at SG. - -Guard top heavy.

Already have Boston - -Quickley probably returning - -Clark re-classifying -I think in less UK misses on these others - - we aren’t gonna have to worry about them.

Just because a player lists his top five - -doesn’t mean he is a school’s top 5 - -Kentucky has other interest at this point - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 100% agree. If it’s a fall decision, it won’t be UK. Nix was at LA today for an official, but still working on scheduling one to KU. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Nix and Thompson visit the same weekend to develop some chemistry, and KU is the only school they have in common.

  • Love looks nice. Real nice. Is there a legit chance KU lands him?
