Bracketology Before the 4th Of July

Because it’s never too early to start thinking NCAA tournament:
-
They really go out on limbs. UNC is the only non champions classic team to garner a 1 seed. 2 seeds are Kentucky, Louisville, Nova and the Zags. Defending champ Virginia doesn’t earn a top two preseason although I suppose they lost some talent.
-
We aren’t going to have 9 losses this year
-
@approxinfinity Not a chance. I’ll go with five losses, tops.

Schedule is really tough, I could see it.
-
I expect Duke to struggle
-
Those were last season’s records. 9 losses doesn’t garner a 1 seed. Still don’t know how managed a 2 seed with Wiggins and co. having 9 losses entering the tournament.
Also didn’t realize Baylor was supposed to be that good next season as they are tentatively a 3 seed in that bracket.
-
@KUSTEVE Damn, a 1 seed at 25-9.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, I saw a way-too-early top 25 that had Baylor as a Top 10 team. But Kansas as a 1 seed at 25-9?
-
They aren’t predicting our record- they are reporting what last year’s record was. Remember, this is ESPN, so it will be a little squirrely. I see a team with 2 or 3 losses. Maybe. Maybe we go undefeated. ( OK, I don’t really believe we’ll go undefeated- I was trying to trigger a few of you ). I’m thinking we drop a conference game or 2, maybe we decide to skip the conference tournament for all practical purposes. I have no idea why they want to send us out West.

You thought Kentucky would be bad last year. :p
It’s Duke and they have dudes, I’ll wait and see.
-
I think that Kansas will be a tough out for anyone this year, a no-brainer Top 5 team. Who do you think are this year’s Top 5 teams?
-
The irony - we play a 1 seeded Dook, and most likely Sparty in the Maui Classic, a 2 seeded Nova and Tucky, and 3 seeds Baylor and Tech. That’s stout!
-
@Marco MSU, KU, Duke, Kentucky.
I think the 5th team is up in the air. I would listen to arguments for Nova, Louisville or Florida. Maryland would be in consideration if I felt Turg was a better coach…
-
@Kcmatt7 Struggle is a relative word. I could see them struggling, and still getting a 2 seed. They are simply oozing with talent. I should add I am glad we catch them the first game of the year.

That’s kind of where I’m at, number 5 being a bit foggy. Though that being said, I think that Louisville and Florida are going to be stout.

There’s been some noise around Seton Hall getting most of their team back for this year. Not sure that translates to Top 5, but their name is being thrown around as being really good this year.

I saw that. Baylor is being called a top 10 team, too (think they had them at like seven or eight).
-
This is a great year for us to have a tough schedule. Bring them all on! It’s our chance to regain some bragging rights! I’m always hoping we can put up a double-digit block night against Kentucky to counter what they did to us a few years back, even though it helped toughen up Mason for his future.
-
Are we playing Kentucky for sure? I thought they might play tech.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 That is what everyone is assuming, but nothing has been announced yet…
-
@Woodrow what do you think? Based on last year.

KU/Kentucky will always be one of the most high profile match ups possible. There’s maybe been two or three times at most KU and Kentucky haven’t played in the B12/SEC when they didn’t play in the Champion Classic as well.
If it’s not Kentucky, Auburn or Tennessee are the other likely opponents.
-
They will probably pair them with UK. It is a high profile game. I wouldn’t mind playing Auburn for a little revenge!
-
We did play A&M. Tennessee won’t be good, will auburn? I just figured tech earned the right.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 We’ve played Kentucky in the Champions Classic in 2014-15 and 2017-18 since the B12/SEC Challenge started in 2013-14. We played Florida and Texas A&M in those two seasons. 2013-14 is the only year KU and Kentucky haven’t played when it’s been a possible match up and KU played Florida that season.
My money would be on KU and Kentucky playing again this year in AFH since last season’s game was at Rupp.
