@BigBad What kind of ice cream? That's important to know!
-
But I should know that whenever I have cramping (she'll never know if I do or not) I'll ask for ice cream.
-
Sometimes my gf asks for ice cream when sheās cramping but thatās a different deal entirely

@FarmerJayhawk comfort food!

@wissox83 thank God she didn't breastfeed him

@wissox83 Frankly, HCBS deserves to take some hits. His comments following the game were...curious...
He says DP was on a minutes restriction, even though he was supposedly 100% (wasn't going to play unless that was the case, as we were told...)? So, if really was going to be limited to 24 minutes, he plays 18 in the 1st half??? Okay, dictated by the Council and Flory foul situation? Then why start him in the 2nd half and ensure he wouldn't be available later in the game???
Then he says that Elmarko only played 11 minutes because he had a bum knee coming into the game. So, he plays at less than 100%, but not DP??? And, if Elmarko really was less than 100%, why not give some of the other guys a few minutes, i.e., Dawson? It's not like a 100% Elmarko is a difference maker...
It's possible that we are a second weekend team with a fully functioning and well integrated DP, but that hasn't really been demonstrated yet. We've lost to all the best teams we've played, even when DP has contributed. Our best win is over a 10-4 Tennessee team that may be a middle of the pack SEC team.
But with DP lighting it up in the 1st half, UCF still lead at half. Everyone else deferred to him. Council lit it up in the 2nd half, but we don't have anyone else who can consistently score - or at least create their own shot (Tre tried, but he really doesn't have the skill set - he is more of a good complementary player).
The only way this group beats the better teams is that DP plays, scores, but also makes his teammates better by creating opportunities for easy buckets when he is the focus of the defense. That isn't happening now...

Could anybody here tell DP was hurting? Did anyone see him or Coach signal each other time was up or DP was hurting? I just saw a beautiful 3 pt shot and out he goes. No limp, no trainers! Camera trained on him the rest of game. He seemed pained to me that he couldnāt help. I thought because he didnāt put his sweats back on, heād go back in. Duh on me!
If he didnāt play much 1st half we wouldāve been down so much, no DP, no Flo and no Dawg.
Post game, Tre said they like playing w/DP, he draws the D to him and it helps the team. 2nd time Iāve heard him say that. They were asked if they knew about mins, they said no. Iām not sure what to think, Iām leaning itās all his parents and handlers. I think Self is in a terrible place. I donāt think we do well w/out him, full time. I think it hurts his draft pick. Itās sad for all! -
I think the injury experiences with both Embiid and Selby have made Self more gunshy about stars' injuries. He screwed up the game when the played DP extra mins and the quads tightened, and last night screwed up the timing by relying on DP to keep KU in the game. Lots of anger here about someone who played his best game in a while, and who brought us back to a tie. Other guys made a valiant effort until silly mistakes in the last minute.

Having watched my son play through a hamstring issue that took about 2 months to truly heal i can only imagine how frustrating it must be for Darryn and his family, especially in the white hot spotlight and pressure mounting, while trying to mitigate any risk to future income.
We mostly just need to win games and i appreciated DPs effort against UCF, however abbreviated.
-
We need to try doing with DP (assuming he plays again) what the Sixers used to do with Joel Embiid. 4 minutes on, 4 minutes off over and over throughout the game
-
Wonder what the limit is for TCU?
-
We may have played worse in the first half with DP on the floor. I know he had 23 and on paper kept us in the game but when he is on the floor. I see a lot of standing and standing watching by others. So first it was a Hamstring issue then a Quad issue and now itās a knee issue. Devin Neal made a post sticking up for him but my god is something ailing everyday at this point?

@kjayhawks2.0 i would be curious how much of this is compounded wear and tear over years
-
@approxinfinity I tell parents all the time playing the same sport year round is silly. Itās hard on their bodies and doesnāt give time to recover especially baseball and softball. Nothing wrong with shooting hoops in the summer but playing in leagues year round is much imo. Maybe thatās some of DPs issues. Iām hoping it was just a minute restriction and nothing is a miss with a knee now.
-
@kjayhawks2.0 I didnāt hear anything about a knee issue except for Elmarko. I went back and listened to post game, and Coach just refers to his injury as āitā.
-
@crimsonblu22 right I think I read knee somewhere never know so much stuff is going around about this is crazy.
-
It is starting to piss me off... all the fan grief leveled on DP. I'm not sure we deserve his presence on the court. He still wasn't 100% for this game... I'd say about 90%... but look at his stats... 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. What says a lot is his only 1 assist. We need to develop an offense around him.
Why did we lose? It sure wasn't DPs fault. Two things: our post play is horrendous. And our overall defense is mediocre at best. Not sure how we motivate Tiller. I think he THINKS too much while he plays, instead of just playing. He seems to have a delay every time he moves.
I'm curious why Self settles for a switch defense? He used to hate that! Maybe it's hard to recruit players today if you let them know they will have to fight over ball screens? I guess we play switches because Self believes our bigs can guard guards. Right now, we are guarding no one! If he's going to sacrifice his identity as a coach for defense, we might as well play a zone.
I'm running nervous about Tuesday's game. Might we go 0-2?

It isn't one sport, its NO OFFSEASON. "Athletes" nowadays never take a couple of months and DO NOTHING.

@drgnslayr I've been so curious about the switching d for a while now too. It can work in games where the other team isn't prepared for it and does negate some of what other teams are trying to do. But I feel like even minimal scouting can lead to very easy play for the opposing offense. You know what KU is going to do. You can get whatever matchup you want and then attack while having not just one, but multiple mismatches all over the court. EVERYONE in the big 12 knows this. And I don't feel like I see anyone else doing it to the extent we do which could be good for novelty I guess, but in general means, it probably just isn't very good.

I don't know if this has anything to do with DP and his issue... but I just needed an excuse to post on one of my favorites. I do believe, to the most part, Wilt was spot on.
