Charlie Moore transferring

  • Wish him the best. Best for both sides

  • Best case, he goes some place he can be the man and finds his swag. There were flashes when he was comfortable where he looked like a complete guard. Good for everyone. No drama. Appreciate that. Wish him the best.

  • Chuck It Up Charlie. You guys are being very polite… 🙂

  • Every time he was in a game I got nervous… I honestly can’t remember ever feeling that way about any other KU player

I decided against saying anything too harsh. Does worst player in the Self era suffice?

  • @jayhawkcsg What reason is there to bad mouth Moore?

He came here, wasn’t a great fit and is now moving on again. Moore didn’t do anything in his two years in Lawrence to embarrass KU or himself so there’s no reason to rag on him not being the player Self hoped he would be. Time to move on and wish Charlie the best wherever he ends up.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I think i was mainly chuckling when Approx said he looked like a complete guard in flashes. C’mon. that’s funny, and polite. Overly polite.

  • Auf wiedersehen Charles.

  • @jayhawkcsg lol ok, I didn’t say the flashes were plentiful or long. I mean like a couple plays and sequences. I think that’s true.

  • @jayhawkcsg Your post sounded like you’re surprised people aren’t bashing him for his poor play this year on his way out.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Nah. Well maybe a little. we can’t all have calm, cool, collected thoughts like you, Tex. He sucked. Us fans are allowed to have feelings, and vent them.

Ha. Ok. I’ll buy that. Didn’t he have one game where he made like 6 3pters?

  • @jayhawkcsg Ripping a 21 year old because he didn’t play up to expectations after he’s announced his intention to move on just comes across as low class and petty.

Especially when he’s going home because he has a sick parent. Sometimes fans are the absolute worst.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Tex, you’re a class act. I respect your ability to remain poised under duress. I do not share that trait. Sorry bout that. You can be angry with me if you want for having and sharing an opinion. I think that’s pretty much what message boards are for. I don’t see a header on the KUBUCKETS title page that says “only for non-critical, rational thinkers”.

If it makes you feel better about my low class-ness and petty-ness, i ripped him while he was here as well. 🙂

Sick parent? Hadn’t read about that. Must be an update to the story i read earlier today. I’m not heartless, fer crissakes.

    That sucks.

I still have the feeling this was a pretty mutual decision.

  • @BeddieKU23 Anrio Adams hands down. But UpChuck Charlie was close.

  • Hopefully he can get as close to home as possible.

Umm shades of Vick here? White lies to help the kid out the door? Didn’t Charlie transfer to KU to be closer to family?

It didn’t work out, now he’s leaving. Charlie at best was a bad fit, hopefully he can find a more appropriate program for his talent. Nothing to see here.

  • Let’s all keep it classy, we are Jayhawks not Mildcats. Good luck Charlie!

  • Let’s separate simply commenting on how he performed vs ripping him. He plays KU basketball. We can comment. Part of that might be commenting on stuff that isnt postive. And we can ignore the attempts to discourage commenting that might not meet someone’s approval.

Reality - Moore was a huge disappointment. His play had strong hints a selfishness, but some was understandable given his limited opportunities. We can’t dress it up. He was perhaps the worst scholarship player Self regularly played. Adams only played 83 minutes. Moore 458. Speculation, but I’d take Adams easily. Challengers could be Royce Woolrodge, Merv Lindsay, Tyrone Appleton. But Moore played more minutes than all combined. Appleton may have been the worst of all, minutes aside.

Digest this for a moment — Moore had a PER of 5.4. He shot 26.7% from 3, and 31.4% from 2.

Simply a miss by Self. Only a few here (not me) thought he’d be that bad (@BShark?).

Seemed like a fine character kid. Meaning no info either way, which is good.

We can wish him well but also be glad he’s leaving.

  • Not so concerned about transferring or leaving, rather who do we have coming? Hurt? We need a solid shooter.

    👍

Really he had to go, KU was not the place for him.

I stated from the start that it was not a great fit. This proved to be true, he was too much of a wildcard type player that doesn’t play within the framework of the team. Typically, those players do not succeed under Self. Certainly though, I thought he would be better than the numbers he ended up putting up. I figured he would at least be a reasonable bench piece.

  • I watched the game D2 championship game yesterday between Northwest Missouri State and Point Loma. Congratulations to the Bearcats. But I thought one player–Daulton Hommes of Point Loma–was impressive. Would like to see him transfer to KU for his senior season.

He is on the NBA radar. Played with Gordon Hayward this summer. Good player

No, go read Charlie’s statement. He literally says he has a sick parent. He left Cal when Martin left. Different circumstances entirely.

  • @FarmerJayhawk I recall Charlie when he transferred saying he wanted to be closer to home. It’s why ILL fans thought he would end up there. Not saying it was for the same reason as now, I just recall it being mentioned.

  • From the Journal World:

Moore, whose father has been battling health problems for some time, took to Instagram on Saturday evening to confirm the news himself and deliver an official goodbye.

“First of all, I want to thank the entire Rock Chalk Jayhawk Nation,” Moore’s post began. “These past two years I’ve learned so much and couldn’t ask for a better college environment to be a part of. Through this process, I’ve been dealing with my father being (ill), which has now taken a toll on my mom, causing her to be in and out of the hospital the last couple of months. I feel it’s best for me to be home with my family to help them out daily.”

Moore emphasized that his decision to leave KU was not “a basketball decision” and added that it was “a tough personal decision that had to be made,” before signing off with a simple farewell of “Again, thanks for everything.”

  • Personal issues can certainly influence on-court performance. People have wondered why his play this year was so much poorer than the numbers he put up at Cal. I think we finally have a plausible reason. Both parents being ill and hospitalized would be a serious distraction.

  • Why can’t we get one of these low key diamonds in the rough that explodes onto the scene around tourney time. Where are these kids? And how do we get one? Self and Co looking in the all too familiar AAU circuit. We always hear about some kid from no where that explodes onto the scene. But because he didn’t have the top 5 blue bloods looking at him, he gets nothing. Like the kid that set the NCAA 3pt record in one game. Then he crapped a brick in the next game.

  • Moore may be a great kid, but he was obviously all wrong for KU. He was the most absolute waste of paper of any transfer ever. I just can’t get over how he was a total failure. He just did not translate. All he was good for was to give Dotson a really quick blow. But everytime he got on the court, I was always skeptical and counted down to when Dotson came back in the game.

  • @truehawk93 Sounds like you’re describing Graham and Mason! But thinking now about what you wrote I’m guessing you are referring to finding that diamond in the rough transfer, not recruit.

your statement was exactly what I was thinking. - -I was gonna say - -OH you mean like a Frank - - -or Devonte right? - -Then I thought no - -I’m not gonna say that - -because Frank didn’t just explode into that - - Took some time more gradual then exploding - but him and Devonte was for sure a diamond in the rough that didn’t really get by the blue bloods - I would not trade either one for nothing. - -

Frank and Devonte both was really good their Senior years - -really good developmental 4 yr players. - -You know what I’m trying to say - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I just think the staff honestly completely whiffed on evaluating Moore. It’s not the end of the world and it happens. They thought he would be a legit 20-25 minute backup PG who could shoot the 3.

    It didn’t happen .

  • Well we are one year removed from Malik. Without that guy no way we beat Duke in e8

  • @approxinfinity Explain to me again why Malik isn’t with the program this season???

  • @dylans G league money

  • @Crimsonorblue22 😂 his degree would pay better. Maybe he’ll get some of that Euro ball money.

  • dylans said:

He was never going to get drafted unless he either developed into a true PG or grew 3". Better to go make some money while he can since he’s old for his class.

  • @FarmerJayhawk With a full year of performing the way he did in the post season last year, he might have played his way into the draft. He just hadn’t showed that sustained level of performance yet. If he could have kept it going this year, a lot of people would have been watching him.

  • dylans said:

Same reason Wayne Selden left after his junior year. Their draft stock was only going to decrease the following year. Leaving when they did was their best chance to catch on with a team during Summer League.

  • Well. I understand the reasoning. But with hindsight being 20-20 it’s clearly a bad one.

  • Jahvon Quinnerly (probably totally butchered that spelling) is transferring from Nova. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t KU one of his final options? If so, do you think Self goes after him, ala M. Newman?

  • I’d go nowhere near Quinerly.

  • ZIG said:

Noooope. Quinerly is going to end up at a mid major and hopefully will be the wake up call the kid needs

  • @ZIG

KU was one of his options but I think he did a good job of ruining his short term career after his immaturity shined through early in the season

  • Charlie is headed to Depaul

Well, at least the want to be close to home line seems very legit with this.
