Duke got away with at least 3 fouls in the final minute

Anyone but Zion and that is a charge.

That last one was not a charge, UCF guy flopped on that one. I’ll agree on some of the other ones, but that last one was a good non call.

bullshit - -you got to call SOMETHING - you can’t swallow your whistle on that. - -It’s either a charge OR a block. - -you can’t chew on the plastic on your whistle on a play like that - - – one way or another - that just made him look REAL stupid

  • Virginia outs OU and the little 12 is down to Tech in the sweet 16.

Sorry, but that last one was a non call situation. The UCF player flopped trying to draw another charge on Zion since Zion got called for a charge the possession before that. The UCF player flopped on that one and didn’t get the call and put Tacko in a bad spot and that led to Fall fouling out on that play.

There were definitely issues in that game with officiating, but I didn’t see anything to take major issue with in the final minute of the game.

The other play people are crying about is the RJ Barrett offensive rebound off of Zion’s missed FT, that was one of the weakest box outs I’ve ever seen. The UCF player never got into a good box out position and was almost standing vertically which made it very easy to move him. I could’ve gotten that offensive rebound on that box out because of how weak it was.

The refs kept Duke in the game, UCF buckled under pressure when they should have won that game. An easy lay up missed, a flop, not boxing out, two missed shot at the basket all played a bigger role in determining that game than the refs did.

  • Gonzaga beats FSU, Tech over Michigan (surprisingly to me), Virginia over Oregon and Purdue with a surprise win in OT vs Tennessee which lost the game at the FT line. Thinking about how boring a Virginia vs Tech title game would be lol the teams may not break 80 points combined.

  • @kjayhawks I enjoyed watching Virginia tonight. They played D hard for entirety of every possession down the stretch and worked to find good looks on O. Things that we blew many possessions on this year, they didn’t do.

  • Plus I’m glad they took out Altman and the D*cks. I won’t forget them talking smack after beating Frank’s senior year team: no class.

  • @approxinfinity fun watching tech beat a good team, and oh yeah we DID play well and beat tech too!

  • Bol bol looked pretty excited to be there!

  • @approxinfinity In retrospect, I think that loss hurt more than any other, other than Jacques and the boys to AZ in '97.

  • @Fightsongwriter I wasn’t watching the program when Vaughn was a Jayhawk so I can’t weigh in there, but Frank’s loss was without a doubt my biggest heartbreak since becoming a fan. I watched highlights of the 83-80 win over Arizona led by Vaughn in '96.

. The kid was fun to watch! Very shifty and smart with the ball. I can see why people loved his game.

  • I didn’t watch a single game last night but I saw that Purdue and Texas Tech are in the EE. What kind of wacky world is this??!

Purdue super lucky. Were down 2 with 2 seconds left. Tenn fouled Carsen Edwards and he made FT’s and sent it to OT.

Tech sent Michigan’s offense back to the stone age. 16 points at half

Oh and the Virginia Oregon game was first to 50.

Gonzaga was the best team that played last night. They were hungry

  • @approxinfinity Gosh those 96 and 97 teams had a ton of talent. I’ve always said that Self has had the talent for at least 2 more titles but Roy also should’ve had at least 2. But in the same sense, UK, Dook and UNC could probably say the same they just have more already and a chance to add to it this year.

  • Roy def should have had a couple titles at KU.

  • 1997 and 2002 were the real “lost” titles in my opinion for Roy. The two best teams in he had, I think.

  • @HighEliteMajor No question, really we should’ve been back to back in 2002 and 2003.

  • We’ve had more than our fair share of would’ve, could’ve’s. My would’ve was in 1986. We beat eventual champ Louisville twice that season, but got cheated by the Duke whistle in the final four. It’s really down to that team and the 97 team as KU’s best teams that didn’t win it all.

  • With ESPN hype machine you wouldn’t think anyone played last night or anyone but Dook is playing tonight.

  • Go Hokies!

I actually think Tech has a shot against Gonzaga. - -Tech’s Defense is just crazy. - and when they start knocking down shots - -then they can be really hard to beat. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23 Yep Go Hokies, I realize they just beat Dook a month ago with out Zion. But I’m going to bet Dook spanks the daylights outta them especially after losing to them and almost losing to UCF. They will be focused and on their game, will be a cruise.

Do you mean the team that lost to Maryland or Syracuse? I thought Maryland was the best team the majority of that season and earned that title. KU definitely gave away the 2003 game with their FT shooting that night.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Gooden’s fresh legs would’ve won that title. Oh well, miss 18? free throws and you should lose. That one stings still, but quiet as much as the one regular season, triple overtime loss, team of ‘97.

  • @approxinfinity 35-4. Started 4 NBA players. Best team in CBB by far, until that damn AZ team. Jerrod Haase was hurt and couldn’t shoot which killed us. He had been rock solid all year. Still hard to take 20+ years later.

    Jeff Graves nightmares. Thanks!

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I was referring to 2002, the Maryland loss. Maryland wasn’t the top team most of that season, Duke was (by polling it appears). Duke got upset by Indiana in the sweet 16 on the other side of the bracket. Link below that tracks the polling for that season. It seems that Duke, KU, and MD were the best teams. We lost to a stud team.

Personally, I think that 2002 team with Gooden and Collison both might have been our best over all team under Roy (maybe better than the 1997 team overall).

  • I blame missed FT’s and Gooden leaving for the 2003 lost opportunity. I’ve even thought in my mind, Simeon’s usage changes if Gooden is still around and maybe he’s healthy too for the final. That team could have gone undefeated in my opinion.

  • @wissox I could have gone another 16 years without thinking about that 2003 NC game.

    Free Throws - Syr 10-17 - KU 12-30

    Three point loss

I’ve harped about free throws forever, and if we would have hit our regular percentage we would have won, BUT - I just looked at the box score again and I’d forgotten that Syracuse hit 11-18 3-pointers and we were 4-20.

It’s a very close debate imo. Both teams were insanely good and I wish we had Kenpom data for them.

  • I don’t feel quite as bad about getting beat by Auburn. That team is hot!

  • Auburn just beat the hell out of UNC… makes me feel slightly better about losing.

They made 16 3-pointers tonight. When they shoot like that they are just about impossible to beat.

  • @wissox what was our score?

  • 17 3-pointers.

SEC chant is pretty gross, though.

  • 🤮

  • Crimsonorblue22 said:

    Think it was 89-75

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich SEC chant is pretty gross. Living in the midst of it for a while, I got pretty tired of SEC this and that. One time LSU rival Alabama was in town and a local sports writer actually wrote that it’d be good for LSU to lose to Bama because if Bama lost it would screw up their chance and the leagues chance for another NC. It’d be like us cheering for KSU to win a game against us because it’d be good for the league!

  • Auburn is for real - -they will spread you out. - -They will just keep firing the 3 - they miss they don’t care they are quick and they will kill you - -spread and run crazy - Really good - super quick

  • Let’s go Hokies! They’re been the better team in all phases through 20

  • Wellp. Apparently Ahmed Hill fouled Zion’s fist will his face.

  • Nothing there?🤣incidental contact

  • I’m going to boycott Duke wins from now on. I will only watch Duke on replay when I know they lost.

  • @approxinfinity Watching the games last night what struck me the most is how much better all these teams are than we were. Their level of athleticism and hustle is just far, far superior to this year’s flawed team. I think had we somehow made the S16, we would have experienced an epic humiliation. We don’t have anywhere near the athletes. Sad but true.

  • @approxinfinity Oh and I agree with you. Duke just makes you want to puke.

  • @wissox Agree with you. I don’t feel so bad about getting our butts kicked. NC was playing well and Auburn just kicked their tails in the 2nd half.

  • Duke is living on borrowed time. - - eck -a ONE win against UCF - - and by a miracle 2 against Virginia Tech , where the guy just flat out blew the shot at the end. - Wasn’t Duke stopping him from making the shot - just flat out blew it. Life is good

And for the record - - - On March 30th in Topeka Kansas , woke up this morning let my little Dog out AND - - we have SNOW in Topeka lmao. - - huge flakes - – -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • So…Auburn is pretty good? Weird.
