Quite possibly. Given his situation I don’t think this is too much in play. He still wants to play pro ball and taking a full year off would really hurt that. There is no way he is NBA draftable right now, will be interesting to see what happens.

someone posted a youtube video of Grimes senior year highlights. Looked like mini-Zion a totally different player than we’re seeing.

Correct, only 8 players. But even with depth he played too much. Maybe Self is trying to get him to stay.
