Big Dave ain’t seeing the floor this year.
Definitely not that ready yet. Going to see a lot of KJ at the 4 imo.
-
The key with a guy like Grimes is that he’s willing to impact the game in ways other than scoring. That will help him be an even better player because he doesn’t have to score, which will help the team since there is so much offensive talent on this team already.
Moore has been excellent in this game. I have zero criticisms.
Dedric Lawson makes basketball look really easy. He’s as good as advertised.
-
My notes from the 1st half: We are long. Grimes is good. Dedric is good. Dotson is fast.
-
Charlie showing why he was Illinois Mr Basketball.
-
Self nailed it, all the player shuffling kinda killed the rhythm.

I am pleasantly surprised with Moore, but I want to see him against MSU.
Dedric definitely showed up. He is incredible.
-
I am factoring in the opponents when I say this. Grimes looks like a Top 5 NBA PG pick. I need to see him hit the 3, but he looks like the most polished OAD we’ve had so far.
-
KJ is 0-fer on threes right? None of them looked great either from what I remember.
-
@BShark Yea they weren’t great, but the confidence with which he took them gave me confidence that he can probably hit them.

I hope so. He was 31% at Memphis though.
-
@BShark Maybe Self can pair the bigs together. If you had to split the bigs into 2 primary pairs, what would be the best 2 pairs? The perimeter I think can be more fluid.
-
@BShark He would absolutely get yanked out of a real game for the last one he took. I expect shot selection to improve and see him around 36%

I’d play the Lawsons together a lot. Then put Mitch with Doke. But in general I’d try to get the Lawsons as many minutes as possible.
-
KU was 6/16 from 3, 38%

I’m good with that. Mitch hitting 3’s is critical for that to work, I think.

Basically only Charlie was hitting them haha. If that keeps up, he’s gotta get more tick than I was hoping for.

Agree. I’d mostly want to have a Lawson out there. Like…out of the 80 post minutes something like KJ 25+, Dedric 25+, Doke 20, Mitch 10 or less.
Seems like KJ might play all over the court though, as needed.
-
Only 16 first half points in the paint. ???
-
Loved the defensive effort.
-
Vick and Doke felt like ghosts this first half. Weird having the team being REALLY really good, and the upperclassmen looking like the guys struggling hardest to fit into the new identity.
-
Btw, Bahe is doing a pretty good job on color commentary! Like, way better than the guys we have had in the past for this games.
-
Little weave to high low…
-
WOOF
-
Lawson’s old man game is going to settle us down in times of trouble I think…
-
Doke jumps too early on rebounds.
-
Garrett
-
Kansas needs to play defense simply because Dotson in the open-court is devastating.
-
Emporia State’s keeping it interesting. Their post double team is working and will give us something to improve on the next two weeks.
-
SHOOT THE 3 GRIMES

You absolutely have to let it fly there. WIDE OPEN.

We need Silvio badly.
-
Doke with the stare-down on an ESU player that’s half his size. lol
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich Dok’s frustrated, but I bet they work on the post double team this week.
-
@BShark I’m starting to see what Vecenie was talking about. Of Doke and Silvio, objectively speaking, I’d take Silvio, but they ARE redundant.

Yeah, this roster has 3 guys that have to play C w/ Silvio.
-
This half has been garbage.
-
-
ESU getting wide open 3s
-
Good pass, Dedric.
-
Dedric makes everything work. 30 mpg imo.

NBA really whiffed on him. Could have gotten him for a bargain. Now they’ll have to take him early in the 1st.
-
I’ve really liked Dotson tonight.
-
Dotson is a dude. He’d be a double digit scorer easy on a team not so stacked.
-
It’s w/e but ESU basically gets to murder Doke and Dave inside lol. Tends to happen when the other team is undersized.
-
I’m really liking Dotson’s play. Dotson to Dedric on the fast break for a layup should be a regular thing this year.
-
The good news is that most of the turnovers are self-inflicted and KU can clean that up. I was expecting some sloppiness with so many new players playing together.
-
I do think we need to slow the pace on O a bit. I know that playing an inferior team usually speeds you up, but this team can’t run and gun this same way all season, imo.
