@nuleafjhawk yes eventually some of the other players that are working hard every single day trying to get better are gonna resent him. This team seems more together than we have had in several years. If I’m Coach Self I sit down with DP and his family. We talk things over and if I don’t hear what I think is the right thing. I just remove him from the team immediately. This is a team sport we can’t have guys that aren’t bought in, they become cancers to teams.

Edit: I started delivering papers when I was 9, not sure I’ve called in for 56 days of work since I’ve started lol

@kjayhawks2.0 We have that in common. The last job I had I was there 28 years and I honestly don't think I missed 5 days total. (Excluding vacation)

America! Where you have the right to be wrong.

Come on, guys... there is nothing similar to these guys playing ball and being paid and any form of a regular job. How many of you guys started your career with million dollar annual guarantee?

If you want to connect the dots to all of us and our mundane jobs, you will quickly resent all these players and the first time they screw up you'll go ballistic.

Don't take out your job dissatisfaction on players. I'm saying that as much for you as them. None of us are competing with these players and their jobs.

I'm not saying we shouldn't expect players to be responsible while drawing a check. They should be. And if they fake an injury and don't play... well... maybe that's on the university for not putting in a performance clause.

What I'm talking about in my initial post has nothing to do with players being paid. The pressure at UK basketball... and Alabama football... has been there for decades. Just ask Calipari. I never liked that guy and his revolving door teams... just because I saw this is the direction D1 was headed. If I had to grade Cal as a human being, I think of him differently. I followed him at Kentucky and I seriously doubt there is another coach in college basketball who got more involved in his community and was very generous giving to charities. That's the Cal we never talk about. I typically don't.... because I never liked his basketball style.

We are all living in some type of dystopian universe. We all worked hard and made normal money. These kids come along and it just looks like fun play, and many get paid more in one year of college basketball than most of us make in a long career. Dystopia! But no amount of complaining is going to change that. Or hating on players. Or throwing a fit because a kid missed a free throw while 4 million people watch.

2026 is approaching... and I hope all of you have an arse-kicking year! Make tons of cashola! Heck... hit the friggin' lottery! I'll continue to be an old man slaving away, but I'm happy and happy for others who make 100-times more money than me! Good for them!

I'm pretty much happy for any kids today making big cake because I don't see a great job horizon ahead. College basketball may be something immuned to AI, unless we change the rules and let robots play and operate on AI.

I smell a run! (better buy more toilet paper)

@drgnslayr Cal’s recent comments on the transfer portal were really some of the best I’ve heard. He talked about having the first transfer be allowed with no penalty but then requiring the year to sit after that. You get into a bad situation, the coach lied or left or whatever, then yeah get out and find somewhere better, but after that don’t go chasing money. And his concern was not for himself and as a coach but instead for the players. Talking how if you transfer to four schools in four years you almost assuredly aren’t graduating. And then you have no connection to any university or people who will commit to helping you down the line.

            Privilege isn't nonsense.

Yes! He's gone all over the sports media on this topic. And he's right about this.

              And now we have Baylor!

What do you all think about it? What if we brought in one of these guys right now?

At what price are we willing to pay in pursuit of a trophy?

I like how Cal said he is sticking to his approach of going after high school kids.

Baylor adds 21 year old 7'0 250 lbs center James Nnaji who has played the last five years off and on in the Euro League. Knicks hold his draft rights but he has never the been paid as a pro and his G-League was paid travel and per diem. He is not the only in season player foreign professional player addition as BYU, Dayton and Washington have done likewise. He had never enrolled in college here and is within the 5 year window that equates with his HS graduation he now has 5 years of NCAA eligibility. He's is the only one who had enough ability to have been NBA drafted two years ago. Drew is getting grief but he's not alone.

I’m very unhappy with the fact that I agree with Cal.

I don't think these rule suggestions are bad, but the courts seem likely to strike down anything restricting player movement unless there are contracts or it is collectively bargained for and I haven't seen any movement on the NCAA side to put either in place

No contract has been offered. Just like an NFL player has to make the final cut before he gets a rookie contract.

No one that is drafted in the NBA should be allowed to play college ball even if they were previously an international player.
No one that has decided to play G league ball should be allowed to play college sports.
No one after a certain age, American or international, should be allowed to play college sports. Confirmation of age can be completed by medical specialists that can make an informed decision about a player’s age based upon bone maturation, whether medications have been used to hinder the closure of growth plates, and telomere length among other things that I have not thought of to determine the age of a player.
