2019 Recruiting

  • @approxinfinity He might eat Dean Wade.

Ya they better , their running out of options. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Hawk8086

KU is going to have whole lot of beef up front; it now has the personnel to beat up on any other front line.

We won’t. For what it’s worth, word around Chapel Hill is UNC still thinks KU leads after JRE’s visit. I think there’s a real chance we get a commitment (silent or not) this weekend.

  • @BShark I still have high hopes that doke, accidentally of course🤣, runs into Bruce as he is running the floor!🐿🚚🥞. Stay off the court! Or not.😈

As long as Wade stays 8’ away from the basket he is safe…and Wade likes to play outside so he will be pretty safe.😈

Eh? Did you mean will close? I would assume JRE and Hurt are the top targets.

From what I’m told Florida St won this battle.

  • @BeddieKU23 Damn. Guessing he will start right away there.

  • BShark said:

A good chance that happens especially since he’s doing a post-grad year at Brewster and will go into College a bit older. Hamilton, I’m told has done the best job recruiting him since he became a hot commodity.

Shaka, however intrigued him with playing him at the 4 so there’s a slight chance the salesman gets in his head

  • Read this from Bossi this morning on what he heard happened with Samuel Williamson…

What happened? During the recruiting process, Williamson never hid from his family ties to Kansas or from saying it was his dream school growing up. Early on, other programs tried to kill the Jayhawks by saying that they weren’t making him enough of a priority. Then in the summer, the Jayhawks did prioritize him and got him on campus for an official. Instead of committing, though, he decided to take a few more visits. Rather than wait and possibly miss on other targets, Kansas took a commitment from four-star Christian Braun as Williamson was finishing his official visit to Louisville. A day after Braun committed to Kansas, Williamson committed to Louisville.

  • @Woodrow Good PR answer from Bossi and it certainly makes sense, I don’t think that it exactly how it played out though. Jmo from what I’ve read and heard.

The staff does seem to like Braun though. Probably not much of a step down from Sam. Braun is also a different kind of player and a better fit for Self TBH.

That’s what I thought you meant. Your reply to my initial post was off, I think you misread, or some phone auto-correct shenanigans. No worries.

  • It would be really sad to miss JRE AND Williamson in this same class. Two solid recruits with major KU connections, you just can’t miss on both.

Not willing to call Sam W a miss.

  • @BShark Well, I can agree with that in a way. We did want him.

Looks like it is official. 2 Chainz has ties to Adidas which I am sure helped; he is 6’5” and played some college ball.

    According to KUsports. com…

”2 Chainz has strong ties to Adidas, which not long ago released a shoe — dubbed the Top Ten Hi “2 Good 2 Be TRU.” — inspired by the name of the rapper’s first headlining tour and the company’s collaboration with the Georgia-based rapper.”

Maybe he can unveil a new follow up song…2 Good 2 Be TRU - Going to KU

I personally have no clue who he is and never heard any of his “music.” I will have to ask my grandkids about it.😃

    now it is official

  • Found this pretty interesting read this morning, They were talking about the FBI scandal , said it has been a year since original arrests have been made, they gave an account on how it has effected the schools in their recruiting efforts since , the schools were: - -USC currently # 1 recruiting class 2019 - - - Oklahoma State currently # 11 class- - -Mia Fl doing pretty well - -Arizona has rebounded fairly well- - -Auburn currently # 7 recruiting class - - & Louisville currently # 3 recruiting class for 2019.

Makes me feel that much better , the way I see it if they schools recovered which it looks like very evident to me then whatever happens - -IF anything does no reason why we can’t either - these are the schools listed most prominate in the sting and they have done pretty dam well so not to worried about things.- -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Stability is the key.

  • Not sure if it was in this thread or not but Isaac McBride is down to Auburn, Virginia, and KU. He is visiting this weekend.

Wow so he went from down to Tennessee and KU to KU and two others… Obviously Barnes getting James changed that dynamic.

If he leaves Late Night without being a take then I would assume its Auburn. Pearl is a slimeball

  • The article Rivals posted today said that if all goes well on his visit this weekend then a commitment should follow shortly…

Officially he was down to 4, which included Auburn.

Tennessee being out of the picture should all but wrap this up if KU will take his commitment.

  • @BShark I’m down to 1…I’m picking KU…

I failed to even pay attention to the fact he had a “top 4”. I thought it was just two programs at the time KU entered his recruitment. I guess I was stuck on that.

I’m certainly all for him joining the fold. Players in his mold usually end up doing okay here. Added PG depth is never a bad thing to have. I think we are two seasons away from worrying about getting anyone at Dotson’s level anyway. And if McBride is better then his ranking KU wins as well.

  • @BShark If McBride commits, does that affect Stanley? Is Stanley a combo?

  • Hawk8086 said:

Stanley is a wing most likely in KU’s system. He can be a 2 guard as well but KU will have to have a dominate ball handler at PG for that to work.

Good thing Dotson should be around next season as well.

To answer your Q, I don’t believe this has any affect on Stanley as they play different positions

  • McBride is a PG for sure so I don’t think it would impact Stanley. Like Beddie said Stanley is a 2G/Wing.

  • McBride has been kind of lost in this process. KU will have at minimum 5 perimeter players next season, 6 if KJ sticks around longer. Getting McBride would make 7. Stanley would be 8. Crowded situation. Maybe there is some affect on Stanley from a numbers perspective

  • Working under the assumption that KU will have 6 open scholarships adding McBride and Stanley makes a lot of sense. Stanley slots in as a likely starter to replace Grimes and McBride is a guy you can develop while Dotson and Moore run the show next year. Also insurance for the difficult situation of Dotson potentially going pro after this year. It’s unlikely but not impossible.

Then with Braun on board, that’s 3 guards. 3 guards and 3 bigs makes sense. You would figure that they want at least one of the bigs added to be an impact guy. Could also be 2 bigs and then a combo forward like Chandler.

Yeah I assume there would have to be a RS or two if the roster fills up like that. Braun would be a very likely candidate.

Interesting. I’ve been under the assumption Self has pretty much killed the red-shirt idea unless it fits the situation. Two players that would be ideal this year seem to be making a push for some kind of role- Mitch & Agbaji. For once KU has depth to the point good players will sit.

Braun does look like someone who would benefit from a S&C year right off the bat. Isn’t he still young for his class? I can’t imagine he’s ready as a freshy

  • @BeddieKU23 I really hope he redshirts. I think he has about a 0% chance of getting any run next season if we are a full 13 member squad.

  • @BeddieKU23 Idk for sure of course, but 13 guys aren’t gonna get minutes. Braun definitely needs to put on a lot of muscle so that’s why I figure he makes the most sense.

  • @Kcmatt7 @BShark

Doesn’t it feel weird that we have depth again? It looks like the days of having only 8-9 healthy bodies is over with. Has made projecting who KU will get in recruiting difficult. Will KJ & Silvio be here next year? Those two could be studs next season

  • The more I’ve dug into the Stanley recruitment the more he’s in the “luxury” category for team need. A lot of mixed feelings on him across the landscape. Some say more athlete then player. Some question his character. Some question his skill level. He’s a top 30’ish player that is kind of an enigma to forecast.

We are probably selling him on replacing Grimes- which is smart because he’s a OAD and will get drafted in the lottery most likely but he probably more likely replaces Vick. He’s probably the most gifted athlete in the entire class so I can see why Self has pushed for him but he’s the type of player you worry about.

  • @BeddieKU23 It is refreshing knowing the next man up isn’t Evan Manning.

A big question mark on both of those guys though. I think depending on the number of Bigs we land, we learn a lot about Silvio’s scenario. If I were putting money on it, Silvio is gone.

KJ is one that I have absolutely no clue about though. I see it several different ways, but they revolve around his PT.

    If KJ gets enough minutes:

    • He could go pro, most likely undrafted
    • He could come back for his senior year to try and get drafted
    • He could come back because they don’t think he is NBA good and at least end up with a degree

If KJ doesn’t get enough minutes:

    • He could go pro, undrafted
    • He could grad transfer somewhere. Probably Memphis. And probably with both brothers, unfortunately.

Now I don’t want to say that Bill is “forced” into playing him. Because Bill would never do that. But it sure would be nice if KJ played better than Vick and started instead.

  • @BeddieKU23 I think Stanley is more of a take out of necessity. He is about the last immediate impact Wing left for us besides Precious. Other Blue Bloods are in on everyone else.

  • Kcmatt7 said:

I agree Stanley is what it is. Of course we should be excited that we have the chance with a top 30 talent but he’s definitely not a perfect fit or likely to leave California either. Self would be good for him if he was humble and wanted to improve his potential to play for pay. We will see what happens, I’ve always been intrigued by his sheer elite athleticism. They dont grow on trees

  • Stanley’s visit seems to have went extremely well.

  • Has anyone heard anything on how JRE visit went?

  • @Woodrow not yet. He won’t get back to Florida until this afternoon so we may not hear for a few days.

Wiseman’s visit seems to have gone great. Kentucky looks really strong for 2-3 bigs other than Wiseman. Maybe KU more a factor than previously thought?

McBride should be a Jayhawk. We’ll see on Stanley.

  • BShark said:

Hope it went - -REALLY WELL , for him. I know the late night visits can really make a kids mind sway for a bit - -Hope it made a huge impression , seen the fan support , the facilities , Talked to the staff . - -Yet you know you never know might of had an outstanding visit - - get’s back home , settles down after a couple of days - -you just don’t know how much of a lasting impression he had on his visit. - Gonna be hard to pull from UCLA.- - -I’d sure like to have him here. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • So , now we wait. - -Now we see how late night went , what kind of impression it made with the guys. - I think McBride will commit and probably commit pretty soon. I think now we sit back and wait and see what if any kind of movement we see in the CB. JRE has been here countless times , but this time was a little different. This time was serious , a lot on the line. Going to be interesting , I STILL just have to think he lands up here. Could be wrong - - -wrong ? - -Me ? - -surely not lol.

I think were going to see things start to heat up here soon - -I think next week or two - -be getting a little more insight , I think we will start seeing movement in the CB - - more rumors- - I really look for McBride AND JRE to commit to us in the early signing. – I thinking more and more Hurt will end up waiting till spring , just not getting a good read for a fall commitment from him now.

I think the wild card in this is Cassius Stanley , gonna be hard to pull him off the Coast - -Yet I think we have a better then average Chance now that we have got him back here for an official. If we could land him I would be happier then a huge piece of warm Peach Cobbler tasted. keeping fingers crossed on this one. - -we shall see. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Looks like Zeke Nnaji is going to cut his list to 5 tomorrow. He was here this weekend.

  • @jayballer73 With Stanley, it’s purely a business decision. His dad is a millionaire agent or something like that. This is all about who they feel gives him the best chance to showcase for the NBA for one year based on what I have read.
