2019 Recruiting

I’ve got a friend at work who is an Iowa State fan. He’s optimistic they won’t be the bottom feeder this year and thinks they can win twice against Texas. I don’t share his optimism.

They should be better, a couple of key transfers eligible. Wigginton & Lard are 1st team Big-12 candidates. Their starting 5 is better then OU, OSU, Tech & Baylor. Should be interesting to see what Prohm does with talent

Agree. Might even be a better starting 5 than TCU as well. They have a couple guys (THT, Zion G*) that I’d take for KU in a second. Add a couple RS SRs and an NBA guard (Wigginton) and they should be pretty salty.

*Not sure how much he plays this year with their roster situation but I think he is really good and was hoping KU would get him.

Their front court is pretty good, as a whole I would take it over KSU’s front court.

  • Wow re: TT to bottom. And thanks for the insights on Iowa States roster. I look forward to them being competitive. I’ve always liked their vibe, one ahole booster aside.

  • Chicago hoops politics hurt THT’s ranking imo, should be a 5*.

No Texas Tech isn’t going to be al the way the bottom - - -I think the bottom third of the league is going to be a crap shoot

  • @Kcmatt7 Well it’s definitely bold. I assume you have looked at the rosters for the Oklahoma schools?

Kruger had two take 2 grad transfer guards from 16 seed type schools.

  • KUSTEVE said:

    1- KU

    2- Silo Tech 3-TCU 4-TT 5-Hillbillies 6-Clones 7-Okie St 8-Faylor 9-Shorthorns 10-OU

I could be all wrong, but as long as I get the first one right, it doesn’t make a bit of difference to me.

Texas has a roster this year that Self could easily take to a FF. Of course Shaka is not Self…

  • @BShark Oh the OU schools could absolutely blow. But I really think we saw how bad TTU was without Evans. I mean TTU has no PG.

That’s why this is bold lol.

I’m definitely higher on UT than I have been. They have a PG, get Jones back and should be able to score the ball a little bit.

  • @Kcmatt7

I don’t trust Smart to make them a good offensive team. Just look what he couldn’t do with Allen and Bamba. The Coleman/Long/Roach backcourt could be salty though. I thought Sims flashed as well. They still have Slow O (Osetkowski) in the post

  • Villanova has offered Matt Hurt.

Also Self met with big man Zeke Nnaji for 2.5 hours on Sunday night according to Zags.

  • @Woodrow

Looks like Nnaji wants to decide by December as well. Lots of interest in him, will be interesting to see if KU gets one of his officials

  • Wow Nico Mannion cut Duke & Villanova. Down to Arizona and Marquette…

  • Didn’t see JRE’s visit schedule listed…

1st up was Notre Dame last weekend

Villanova (Sept. 14), North Carolina (Sept. 21), Kansas (Sept. 28), and Arizona (Oct. 12). I thought KU was going to be the last visit. Looks like the squid gets the last pitch, ugh

  • Looks like Cole Anthony has set two officials. Notre Dame and Unc this month.

  • Rivals had an update to 2019 rankings.

    Primary Targets

    Hurt#6, JRE #10, Williamson #34, McBride #110 (HUGE jump)

    Others Targets

    Wiseman #2, Anthony, #3, Achiuwa #8, Green #11, Watford #16, Cockburn #30, Stanley #33, Nnaji #37, Quinones #46, Walker #77, Jones #79, Lawson #88, Braun #113

Just curious , what was Braun before ? - -he wasn’t ranked at all was he?

  • @jayballer73

He wasn’t. Looks like he got ranked off those strong July performances and the offer sheet exploding

I wonder who said McBride was going to end up in the top 100? 🤔 🤔 🤔 Still not quite there yet, but there is time.

A bit surprised by Braun, though he does have okay athleticism.

Markese Jacobs is now #125, down 33 spots.

Big jumps for Walker and Jones.

  • @BShark

At this point I would expect McBride ends up in the Top 100 especially if he signs with KU… SOP for recruiting services LOL.

If Braun is the shooter he looks on video I can see why he’s that high. at 6’6 he won’t be over-matched.

You aren’t wrong about that. I do think he is legitimately good though and was underranked big time because of his previous AAU situation that I mentioned before (insanely stacked team). I believe he would be a great fit to continue the 4 year developmental guard thing KU has been great at.

  • @BShark WOW - -Jacobs sure went in the tank - -he had to have leveled off and things starting to show up quite possibly

  • @Woodrow

    He looks huge.

  • Crazy big. KU was in for Precious today too. Definitely casting a wide net at this stage.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Really. I thought that shipped had sailed.

  • Woodrow said:

Well, he isn’t coming to KU.

  • @BShark barring a spot coming open if Hurt decides early for not-KU

From what I’ve seen I agree. That’s the good part about services doing periodic updates, they can evaluate and assess players they might have missed or ones that play really well at certain events and carry that momentum forward. McBride looks like a player that would work his tail off here, I think he’d be a quality addition especially for future years. I hope we land him. I trust the staff’s evaluation of him, they certainly have earned that after years of finding players like this.

  • Achiuwa is one of my favorite’s in the class. His best basketball is ahead of him and his ranking could actually be underselling how good he’s going to be down the road. Long-term I think he’s a top 5 player in this class. He has the size and physicality that fits the new era of the NBA.

At KU he could play multiple positions on both sides which is scary at his size. He’s very good around the rim. He can make perimeter shots. I hope he doesn’t land somewhere KU has to play him. I’m not expecting he leaves the east…

    He is freakishly good.

Kai Jones is too, I just fear KU got involved too late there…

  • @BShark

Not only that I think Jones wants to land somewhere he can start as a freshman. The two visits he’s scheduled (FSU, Cuse) have that path for him. FSU pushed for a commitment from him because they need bigs. My friend says Cuse is giving him a similar pitch. KU is in this, its just going to be a matter of how the pieces fall on the board when he’s ready to decide. I hope we get him on campus I do see this one as a wildcard if they do

  • UNC gets Josh Green for an official visit same weekend as JRE… They are friends and this isn’t coicidence

  • Oh man I would love to land Wiseman just for the delicious tears of UK fans. And them claiming that Cal “must have quit recruiting him. Dollar Bill and Adidas pay off another one.”

Interesting. I wouldn’t hate landing Jones and missing one of Hurt or JRE one bit.

  • KU going to see Cassius Stanley. They’re really a player here.

    Cool story

  • I’d drop an ang3l level bet on this. 😮 I don’t see Nike letting him get away. Feels like to me KU coaches have been visiting a lot of kids they have almost no chance at.

Stanley fills a huge need and would be a great addition though.

  • The staff feels like they’re in it as long as they get a visit. Which should happen. SC is probably still the favorite but it’s not a total lock like the CB would have everyone believe

You know , I was just kind of thinking the same thing the other day. – Wiseman ? – Umm no - - -Stanley - - - Umm No - - I think Stanley stays on the Coast - - I think Wiseman is pretty much just like has been said - - Memphis - -Kentucky probably ( Memphis ) - - I think from a players perspective these are more just giving the Coach respect for in home visit - -nothing serious

On a sperate note, Kentucky media and fans are sure becoming believing they are becoming more solidly now in the Lead for Hurt - -and sure looks like Nnaji about wet all over himself when they offered if you make anything out of the way his daddy or whoever he is talked. A lot of people seem to think with him helps lure Hurt as they thinking they will probably need 4-5 bigs next year. - -WHY am I not worried about Kentucky for Hurt call me thick but I’m JUST NOT. - I think with Matthew getting to play for Coach this summer I think that will go along ways. – Got to see how he Coach’s gall me stupid BUT I think we STILL sit really nice with him. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • KU is leading for Hurt. He may wait until spring but KU can lock him down when he visits for a game.

  • Waiting until Spring is a great and smart move for the kids but I’m glad that a couple of KU’s major targets appear to be eyeing fall decisions.

I’m not remotely worried about Hurt or this class in general yet. Now if we start seeing a string of misses then I might get some 2017 flashbacks. The staff definitely appears to be casting a wide net.

  • Stanley a fall or spring commit?

  • Chandler Lawson visiting Georgia Tech on Oct 5th

  • BeddieKU23 said:

I thought I replied to this already but my phone must have dropped it’s connection when I hit submit…

Anyway I think GT could be his fallback school if Memphis and KU pass. I hope he ends up at KU though, for reasons I have already mentioned.

  • @BShark

I believe Ole Miss is on him as well right?

    Yes and Florida.

I still believe if KU wants him and pushes for a commitment, he ends up in Lawrence.

Indeed. KU is circling back around to a lot of recruits I thought they quit recruiting like Stanley and Achiuwa.
