KU WVU game recap

  • The game’s over already. Here’s what happened. No need to watch.

Final score, KU 72 WVU 69. This after KU comes back from a 68-1 halftime deficit, the largest deficit and comeback in school history.

Huggins is told he owes the school 50,000.00$

Their dude blocks 5 FT’s. Fran thinks that’s legal, but only against KU.

The blue and red sweeper dudes at half time have to push a polished stone down the court behind their brooms. One stone gets pushed too hard and knocks over SZ carrying a 1 gallon tub of popcorn back from concessions. KU fans cheer.

An impromptu luge competition breaks out from the top of the Phog banner.

Ok, sorry for all the made up stuff. Here’s what really happened.

    DG 8 assists, 8 shots made 8 FT’s made.

Doke has a breakdown in form and his FT attempt actually goes backwards into WVU’s goal make it the first wrong basket FT in history.

Uber athletic Vick takes off for an alley oop and misjudges his leap. He catches the ball and as he’s falling he and the ball in his hands goes through the hoop becoming the first person ever to dunk himself. Fran doesn’t think it’s legal.

Svi has OAR on his uniform instead of KU.

Those crazy KU students just decide for the heck of it to storm the court. But they don’t know how so they all go back to their seats when they realize it’s the under 8 timeout.

Cunliffe and Sammy De Sousa go down to coach Self and introduce themselves. At halftime one of their parents goes to him and asks if he’ll play his kid in the 2nd half.

Sosinski the football player tackles Huggie in the handshake line. Fran thinks this is legal.

Mitch Lightfoot sports new shoes that light up when he runs.

  • Holy crap that’s so funny! Gold I tell you!

  • LOL the shoes are the best!!!

  • So basically I was right.

  • This team drove me crazy today besides Doke. Newmann, I’m about done with him. Terrible shots, terrible defense. Uncontested 3 after uncontested 3, you know until they finally contested them and decided to contest them.

  • Bilas had some choice comments about the officials in the first half which was interesting because we were getting a lot of calls.

  • @wissox You obviously don’t know how to create unbelievable scenarios. I think people would have laughed even harder had you predicted a few things much more impossible than the ones you listed–like an imbalance of, say, 35 to 2 in FT attempts.

You will have to let your imagination range a little broader…

  • For the first time in my life I felt a little sorry for Huggie. When 1 shoots 35 times from the welfare line and the other gets 2 striped shirt handouts, something is wrong.

  • Ticked at the refs for Teeing up Huggie. At the time, the score was 72-66 with 8 seconds left. WVA hits a 3 at the buzzer, well, then my score was exactly right. Instead it was only half right.

  • @mayjay No one would have believed that, especially after the discussion we had here last week about KU getting calls.

  • Still don’t know how Doke manages only 5 RB’s, unless the coaches tell him don’t because we don’t want you fouling.

  • alt text

  • @BShark Is that a shot of the bench or a dance routine on SNL?

  • Where were these refs on the 3 games we dropped this year at home? Hope the FBI doesnt investigate! I have to admit that was really one sided and pretty obvious “home cooking”. Just as bad as poke a doke a few weeks back!

  • Great win…now, beat OU

  • @Statmachine Thuggins teams foul nearly every play too. Even Bilas was pointing out a few of the many blatant missed calls like when Garrett got his face elbowed back hard on the way up to a basket and when a mutineer completely put his arms around, holding I think Svi, and instead of a foul the ref gave him a warning.

Speaking of Garrett, hats off to him this game, he actually scored some nice points in addition to his usual “glue” play.

And speaking of hats, way to pull another rabbit out of this one, Jayhawks! Just when I think you’ve ran out of gas, hustle and luck, you come away with another must-have win.

Monday should be very interesting indeed…

  • @StLJhawk I believe it was Malik whom was held early in the game.

  • @StLJhawk Garrett is coming along. He always projected out as a 3-4 year player because of his jump shot. I have the upmost confidence that this staff will make him a capable shooter before he is done here provided he puts in the work.

Hopefully now at least everyone understands why he plays over Cunliffe.

  • @BShark Yeah, Bill can’t stand mistakes. He’ll take a steady player over an inconsistent playmaker every time.

  • @BShark And he has now canned a 3 in consecutive games, so the other teams are going to have to start coming out on him, which should lead to the blow by!

  • @dylans Has Cunliffe made many good plays when he is in? He seems like he just doesn’t understand basketball and has the worst hands I have seen for a guard/wing. If he guts it out here I’ll be pleasantly surprised. There are some tools there and he could be a good bench contributor years 3-4.

It’s hard to draw too many conclusions when he has only played 64 minutes total this season but the word around the program hasn’t been very positive about him.

  • @Fightsongwriter Yeah, it reminds me of Releford. Just get the three to respectable levels and able to can open threes and it will really help him overall.

  • @Fightsongwriter When it begins to click with Garrett all the way, and he starts playing up to his potential, watch out. The guy is going to be great on both sides on the ball.

  • @KUSTEVE I agree. You can certainly see it. Bill would not be playing him in such critical moments if he did not trust him to be solid. Think of how battle tested he will be as a senior. He will be great.

I’m betting he will be one of our most important players year 3/4.

LMAO - - - -stop that lol. - -Is kind of interesting to see Sam engaged and actually looking excited seeing as how his playing time has been zilch - -good to see. - -ROCK CHALK AL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 Sam is doing and saying the right things. Makes me think he might tough it out. Someone has to go for Agbaji though. I don’t think we get Romeo.

  • Sorry, I just lost some respect for Huggy. How can a coach with his years, and bball IQ even raise this issue. I can’t believe he’s blaming the refs. He admitted you can’t win shooting 2 FTs. His guards chose not to drive. The Doke block on Miles was clean. Doke went straight up and Miles threw the ball into Doke’s arms. People are bitching about the last 2 mins. What about WVU blowing a huge lead. Ask Washington, ASU, TT, or OSU if there was any ‘home cooking.’

I am SOOOOOOOO sick of the home cooking CHIT I could throw up. If a coach, team or fan base is expecting calls by the refs to win a game, they are stupid. Huggy even said for the refs to, “Come out and answer questions” at the post game pressers. This would eliminate ALL credibility and neutrality. I can’t tell you how many games I’ve wanted to ‘blame’ the refs. But I know they are human and they make calls. There were so so so many fouls committed by WVU, but I didn’t say a word. And sorry the flop by Big Mouth Sagaba (sp.), he’s cheap and has an NBA ego that needs humbled. Doke’s tap to him and his flop was NO foul. How about the mauling of Svi? They mauled all game, but hey, that’s WVU ball. I accept it. But if you foul on virtually every play, there will be fouls. I thought there were tick tack fouls all game both ways. The majority of the WVU fouls were committed in the last 2 mins. WVU lost because they are not the better team. Shame on Huggy for indicting the refs. You know DAMN well he would not say a word if he were the recipient of the 35-2 FTs.

If I were the refs, I would respond to Huggy’s accusations. This is unacceptable and the NCAA needs to get this under control. This is going to not only hurt KU against OU and UT, but it’s going to hurt the refs for the remainder of the year. KSuck and even Ukrap is even getting in on the bandwagon. This is ridiculous in the middle of all the ‘investigations.’ This is out of control and it started with Higgins last year in the UK game. UK like WVU, LOST.

Ya, I’m beginning to thin the same way, I’m just starting to get a feel that Romeo isn’t coming. Could be possibly that the Coaching staff has already received word of this in some way and thus Agbaji .

I know Romeo’s dad mentioned they wasn’t going to be able to make a visit to KU - even though he has been here - -I just feel if someone is Seriously considering at this point they find a way to work it in - -we will be fine though still gonna be loaded. Would love to have him BUT – -ROCK CHALKALL DAY LONG BABY

Now seriously you didn’t think that seeing a 35-2 difference wouldn’t cause a national stir? - I know your not that blind - -Everyone knew what this was going to cause - -legit or not - -and I’m not saying it is legit – I’m not saying it isn’t. - You didn’t think K-State and Uk wouldn’t jump on this plus about 350 other school’s fan bases. - -Hell UK is always on us feeling that KU - Duke - -and North Carolina has a lovefest with the NCAA and ESPN

Let ask and be honest - would you be bitching if this game would of been played at WV and the free throw difference was in favor of 35-2 in favor of WV? - -come on you know you would - -there isn’t a single KU fan that wouldn’t be having a cardiac if this would of happened when we played at WV – saying that WV gets away with murder in Morgantown - you know you would - let’s be perfectly honest. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I have a friend from WV and we were chatting about the fouls this morning and both of us agreed the refs had a bad night. His opinion is that the ref’s blew a lot of calls that would have favored KU, probably as many or more then they screwed up going the other way. His take on the matter was style of play, KU was pushing while WVU was settling so the likelihood of WVU getting fouled was much lower. I believe Self made the same comment but I’m not sure might have been someone else. He’s pretty much convinced WVU is done and wishes us the best the rest of the year. See why I like the guy?
