Why is there no news on Preston?

  • Ok I guess we all know why, but seriously … Another weeks has flown by. Anyone know a scrap of anything? And @HighEliteMajor don’t say any minute😄!

  • Probably a lot of fact checking that needs to go into this unfortunately. Which doesn’t bode well for him. But the fact is HCBS still lets him travel with the team and so he must be optimistic that he could get the call about Billy literally any second. I don’t think Bill would have said he felt optimistic about getting Billy cleared if he didn’t believe it either. No sense in telling the fans that just to be let down. With Cliff, mum was basically the word.

  • Two months and a week since the event. Probably going to be ruled ineligible. The Auburn investigation took several months to rule on. There may be a lot of rabbit holes that need entered on this deal. I heard on 810 the other day that Kansas has spent $500,000. He is also getting a year of education as part of his scholarship. I wish there was some kind of consequence for anyone who comes in a costs the University money like this.

  • All this scrutiny would appear to indicate more issues than just the car. At this point I am no longer optimistic he will play this season; in fact, I would be surprised if he does…pleasantly surprised, of course, but surprised nonetheless.

  • How pissed are the NCAA and Big 12 coaches going to be if KU wins the conference and goes to the Final Four without Preston? Their whole year of scheming and foot dragging will have been for nothing. Bwa-hahahahahahahahahaha

  • @Blown I want to believe he has done nothing wrong. As much for Billy as KU.

  • If the compliance office investigated the whole situation prior to turning it over to the NCAA shouldn’t they have some feel about the outcome?

  • Notice how much the tone has changed in this since silvio was cleared.

  • I’ve been waiting for an update that at least tells us what additional info the NCAA needs.

My guess… if they still haven’t requested additional info and no ruling has been made, this is going to take a lot longer.

Our compliance office puts a lot of energy into investigating and reporting the facts. Every day passing now just makes it less likely Billy will get cleared.

It appears now that there is little or no chance Billy will get picked in the summer NBA draft.

Does that mean he comes back? Surely he wouldn’t transfer and sit out a year.

It still looks like Doke will probably come back. Silvio will be back. Our post is looking jammed!

  • Doke/Lawson/De Sousa/Lightfoot/McCormack would quite possibly be the best frontcourt in the country next season.

How likely is it that Vick comes back?

  • One theory that’s been floated is that Billy is done for the year (like Austin Wiley) and KU just isn’t announcing it, with the intention being Billy come back next year. I don’t buy it. I think KU really believes he’ll be cleared at some point.

Well KU may have the intention of Billy coming back next year - -BUT you can take it to the bank - just like Billy will be taking it to the bank - -there is no way especially if he isn’t cleared- there is no way in hell he would return to KU for next year.

He will take his little happy ass over sea’s collect some pocket change - - -be able to get in condition AND make some money while he is at it for a year - - maybe two and then throw his name in the NBA draft afterwards - -be able to play a little ball - stay in shape - - train - -AND get paid. - -He is not coming back here next year, so if they thinking that - - ummm man they way off base. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Jayballer54 I agree. If he doesn’t get drafted…he goes overseas. I am among those who doesn’t believe he plays for us this year, or at all.

  • @SouthernHawk

You can liken the situation to the average trial. The defense, KU Compliance Office, submits exculpatory evidence based on information provided by the defendant, Preston, which may or may not be true or correct but tries to put the best spin anyway. The prosecution, NCAA, takes the information provided by the defense and uses its own investigators to either verify or poke holes on it and obtain its own facts. If it finds the information checks and does not find any thing else then he is cleared otherwise it starts with the process of deciding the proper penalty based on the type and extent of the violations.

Unfortunately all of this takes time, particularly if there is a lot to verify or it needs the defense to respond to information they uncover in the course of the investigation. If the case is simple then verification would be fairly speedy and a resolution would have been made by now. The fact that a decision has not been made would appear to invalidate complications in the case which does not bide well for the defense.

  • @Fightsongwriter I take the 5th.

Maybe not. Self did a great job in ‘08 with Kaun, DJ, and Shady. Look where that got us…sayin’

  • @truehawk93 And don’t forget cole. He played his role.

  • The whole situation makes me wanna drink the 5th…

  • @cragarhawk PHOF!

    Epic!

  • At least we have Silvio. I think that was enough closure in this situation, at least for me. Silvio can play, no issues over his head. Self seems excited where he could get him by March.

  • If you read that NCAA article concerning “changes” by Emmert, it might just be the reason for Billy’s delay. I thought Billy would be fairly quick with all the work completed by the KU compliance dept. I actually thought Silvio’s might take some time as they reviewed his overseas play. But the NCAA has been preoccupied with this FBI mess. They have devoted an enormous amount of attention, time, and effort to addressing this big picture.

Maybe NOW they will look at Billy…smh

  • @Fightsongwriter Yep, even moreso.

  • Well??? Guess he wasn’t going to wait it out? After all KU did, maybe the end was never in sight??? Just WOW.
