Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)

  • This could be a very good week for KU fans…😃

  • Announces his announcement when Bill Self is down in Houston. Interesting.

  • Coach Self checking in with him today. - - Think says a lot - - Quentin telling Coach - -it’s a done deal.

Pretty simple I think. - -If he wants Tradition - - -History - - -Play for a team that leads the Nation for consectutive appearances in the NCAA - - -Exposure - - - Consistent sellouts - - - -Lunatics for fans - -development - -playing with other big time players - -Then simple - -he lands here.

on the Other Hand if he wants to stay close to home - stay in his home State - - play before so so crowds - -play with his friends - -Then it’s Texas. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

The kid still has a lot of family in the KC metro.

  • @BShark YA I think with Coach seeing him today - -him announcing his announcement date today - -I think we are getting ready to drive it way over left field lol. - - -

Man can you imagine - -just picture this for a minute. - -What a week this could be, a early recruiting period this could be.

First we Get Dotson’s LOI - - -Then McCormack’s - - Today we got De-Sousa, Imagine to cap it off if We land Grimes Weds - -then we get word De Sousa has been granted re-classification to play this year. – holy cow that would be an unbelievable week/ early period - - oh ya. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 Pretty good week brother! Helps keep my mind off other things…

  • I checked things out. - -Texas has their roster of 15 - -they lose 3 Seniors - takes them down to 12 - - but not sure all of those 3 are on Scholi - - -assuming they lose Bamba - -takes them to 11 - - not sure if they lose anyone else or not - - not sure what they have got committed so far. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 so you checked things out and are not sure

  • UT has no scholarship seniors, but will almost certainly lose Jones and Bamba to the NBA. So that takes them to 10 scholarship players. They’ve signed 4 in 2018, so they already have to cut one to get to 13. Two to add Grimes.

  • Let’s hope Shaka doesn’t pull a shaka. If he does, they might finish .500 in the Big 12.

  • A pretty knowledgeable and tied in poster said that he thinks Dotson and Grimes will both start for KU, but neither will be playing AHEAD OF Marcus Garrett, who he said is a complete stud.

    @BeddieKU23

    3 headed monster

  • @3genhawk Ya I’m not sure just how many scholi they have available. - I’m not sure if all three of the Seniors were on Scholi so they wouldn’t be using one up which in turn means extra availiable. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Oh well hell then how they even in the picture. - -that’s messed up if their running players off. - -I realize they can be jerked at any time but that’s messed up, you would think that would make for negative recruiting if a player wanted to spill that out how he was ran out for another player. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Haven’t heard anything other than Kansas.

Let’s hope it stays that way

  • Jerry Meyer has it as a tossup with Texas being right there. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Ok, if he picks KU, he’s awesome, well grounded, wise beyond his years, a team player, up for any challenge, and everything good in the world. If he picks Texas, he’s a fool, afraid of competition, not interested in improving, selfish, being paid by Nike, weak minded, and generally everything horrible about CBB and recruiting.

Amazing what one decision will tell us ( not necessarily “us” on this site, but in many corners of Jayhawks nation). Or so it always seems.

  • I’m a little nervous about this one for some reason, can anybody ease my nerves about it and tell me there isn’t anything to worry about? haha.

    Sorry I can’t, I still remember Ayton.

  • @BShark Yep, same here. The comments from Jerry Meyer aren’t sitting well with me.

  • It will suck if he picks UT, I’ll have to not load the phog for a couple days at least, lol. It won’t be ideal but KU would be alright next season.

  • I’ve never heard UT is doing anything other than making it interesting. KU has led wire to wire. If anything changes, I’ll let you all know.

  • Apparently Shaka went to watch Grimes play while Coach Self was in town. Interesting, Shaka trying to beat Coach Self off the court since he has been unable to do it on the the court since THAT game…

  • RockkChalkk said:

I’m a little nervous about this one for some reason, can anybody ease my nerves about it and tell me there isn’t anything to worry about? haha. You and me both. - Until he actually announces I’ll stay nervous. I mentioned sometime back that when some thought Kentucky was coming in and trying to make that push/run for him , I said at that time it wasn’t Kentucky we needed to worry about as much as I thought Texas was going to be our stiffest competitor for him. That’s obviously what I still believe.

I just got this sick feeling that come tomorrow evening that he comes out and says next year I’m going to be playing for the University of Texas. I can just hear it now. Just as some here have been saying to me because of my statement about Langford leaning towards at the time Indiana- - some said to me OH well if Langford was so set on Indiana then why doesn’t he just go ahead an announce and commit now? - -why wait? - To that I say Hell I dunno how about this why don’t you ask Langford why.

I can in turn I can turn right around and say the same thing about Grimes. If Grimes is so committed to KU then why don’t he just come out and say publicly that he is coming to KU? Ah and don’t try and give me the excuse about well he wants to set up his scheduling/announcement ceremony hell I could say the same for Langford. If Grimes is truly locked in to KU then why even allow Shaka to come to the house anymore? - Why doesn’t he just tell Shaka I appreciate your time and effort in my recruitment BUT I’ve made my decision and I’m committing to KU? -why waste Shaka’s time Quentin’s time - - -I think Texas is STILL a very big player in this. - -If it was settled why does Coach feel the need to go visit him again yesterday? - If Quentin was truly 100% sold - Shaka wouldn’t be there yesterday - -he wouldn’t of been to his game last night, for some reason they feel they are still in this.

I hope I’m wrong but I’m like you- -I think that this just might be one that gets away keeping fingers crossed. - -like has been said if he does - -we will still be fine, we were fine before - -we would be fine after but sure would be sweet. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • KU made Romeo’s final three and he is waiting until spring so if you still don’t think KU is in that recruitment I don’t know what to tell you there.

Anyway @jayballer54 , I’m starting to feel uneasy about Grimes as well.

  • @jayballer54

he’s announcing wednesday what else do you want

  • So you’re Grimes. You see that Vick might return. Newman could stay. Garrett started. Cunliffe in the wings. Langford has KU in final three with one non-basketball school (Vandy).

Self made a special trip to see him.

I’ve said this before in other situations- Do we guarantee Grimes that we won’t take Langford if Vick or Newman stays? Logically, that is the only apparent hold up.

If Vick or Newman stayed, there is a chance Grimes could be #5 on the wing of Langford picks KU in the spring.

  • Cunliffe is a non-factor. Newman is leaving. I don’t know how sold Grimes is on those facts but that’s the truth.

I do think there is a real chance Vick stays.

  • Who else is KU recruiting at Grimes position? Nobody that’s the answer.

Langford is a wing and we are recruiting him as such.

A month ago we were worried about Dotson going to Maryland. They “closed the gap”, gave him “something to think about”. Heck Maryland even had his best friend doing everything they could.

2-3 weeks ago Marquette and Kentucky had really closed the gap. Once they moved on now its Texas has closed the gap.

    This is funny

  • If we get Grimes and Vick stays, it eliminates us for Langford. Newman was gone after this year the minute he signed.

  • Vick had 23 points in the 1st game. If he has a similar game tonight in front of a million scouts and eyes he’s going to start getting a ton of looks.

Obviously coming back as a senior could have its benefits. Seen Frank do it, seen Devonte do it. That could be important to him seeing the path that others have made coming back. Vick has what the NBA wants though which is different then Frank & Devonte’s position to stay. I think that is a significant factor that Vick is viewed as a NBA player. We have to factor in that all his boys that he came in with could be gone as well. As many as 7 new faces next year.

Yeah if he is consistently filling it up he will probably go. Can’t blame him in that case. It also means KU likely had a great year.

I feel you on the most people he came in with being gone. No doubt he knows the Lawsons well though, along with Tarik Black he helped reel them in. 🙂

Well yes you answered your own questions.

The “2” guard position or whatever you call it today. We know he can play point if needed but that’s not his primary position or his primary need in KU’s lineup. It’s his ability to score, his vision and his defensive capabilities that we want. If we go to 4 guards which has become our new reality then I’m failing to see where he doesn’t start and get everything he wants. Self can trot out Dotson, Grimes Garrett at minimum and have 3 very capable ball handlers, play-makers, and continue with this offensive scheme that gives opposing teams nightmares trying to guard.

  • @BShark Why do you think Cunliffe is a non-factor? Just because he appears to be pretty weak right now? I do get that. But he’s a body that will be in Self’s system for nearly two years come Oct/2018. How about he’s a “consideration.” That might be better until proven otherwise.

On Newman, don’t be so sure he’s gone. We know odd things have happened. Players we think are leaving, don’t. What if Newman isn’t showing up on GM’s draft sheets as highly as desired? I agree, it is very likely he’s gone. But I’d would say that is over 70%. There’s still a reasonable window there.

Just playing a little “what if” here.

We’re going to get Grimes, I think. But stranger things have happened. No doubt there.

  • @jayballer54 Aaron Rodgers says r-e-l-a-x.

@HighEliteMajor Just what I’ve seen mentioned from people that would know re: Cunliffe. I don’t see him contributing much this year or next. His best case next year is 5th in the guard rotation (which is pretty great for KU).

I think Newman would go play in a foreign league over another year of college. $$$.

  • @BShark I WOULD make a response with Aaron BUT then I’d have people on me because I’m talking Aaron -I know Aaron’s famous relax statement lmao - - see but I can’t really say that cause then I have people saying I’m a homer GB fan - -NA that can’t be , we all need to try and find something we can ALL agree on - - - - -hmmm let’s see ummm well I’m a KU fan - -hope I’m not a homer for that. - But seriously I want Quentin just like the next Joe - sorry if I spoke up about being nervous - not getting a good feeling – let’s all just sit back and hope for the best - I just am not getting that good a feeling - -you said yourself your feeling nervous, - -But guess we need to pull together and hope for the best.

Like has been said though if he does choose to go to Texas? - -Guess what? - we’ll be fine - - Still really good class - then if Romeo ends up here - we be really good. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • It will be interesting to see what we get out of Sam. Initially I wasn’t happy at his exit from ASU (and if you take the fans and his coach for their word) they were happy to trade him to KU. Maturity was the biggest concern I had for him coming to the program. Has he matured in his time off? We’ll find out quick because he joins the team as the 9th option on the team. So he’s going to have to battle just to see the court other then mop up time or injury/foul trouble.

I hope we get to see his perimeter shot and see him blending in with the team. Going to keep an open mind in regards to him until we see what he can do. If he can defend and make a few perimeter shots I hope he sticks around and continues to work on his game. Seems like he could be easily forgotten if he doesn’t get on the court a ton this season

  • @BeddieKU23 Ryan/BHam made a post that generally mirrors my thoughts on 247 except I think I am a BIT higher on Moore. He tends to be on the negative side so everyone keep that in mind as I quote this. He is however, generally knowledgeable and has a good read on what the staff is thinking.

"I think KU is looking at Dotson, Vick, and Garrett right now as the perimeter for next season. Add Grimes and you’ve got a really nice core 4 to spread minutes too.

Charlie Moore is good for depth, and if Vick leaves, he gives you some more scoring punch by sliding into that group of 4. I’m still not entirely sure on the Moore take, though, as it still seems a bit odd to me.

Not as odd as taking Cunliffe, who I’m not sure will ever play meaningful minutes, barring injuries.

If KU adds Grimes, I expect Dotson, Vick, Garrett is probably the day 1 starting guards, with Grimes likely being the first guy off the bench. If Vick goes, that makes things murkier because KU might want to avoid 2 freshman as the ballhandlers alongside Garrett from the outset.

I don’t think KJ ultimately plays as anything but a small-ball 4 like Josh or Billy."

  • @BShark

I did see his post. Some interesting comments.

I’m high on Moore in year 4 and 5. Next year is perfect to have a better option with Dotson. Maybe you get a player like Nic Moore (small in stature, scorer, leader) etc down the road. That’s what I’m hoping for because physically he’s always going to be limited. Jeff Goodman referred to him as a High School freshman in stature at a recent practice. I think the sit-out year and rotation role next season is exactly what we need from him in the immediate future

  • @BeddieKU23 Agree about Moore. If next year’s starting guard line-up is Dotson, Vick, Garrett I think that’s pretty damn good.

  • @BShark Grimes and Garrett would be interchangeable to me. Both big guards who can handle the ball, but probably better suited to being primarily off the ball and could play 1-3 at any point.

  • I still think we get Grimes, but if we don’t, Langford is still on the board. Though I do think he wants to play with Grimes, so maybe Vandy gets him to go with Garland. But it is interesting that we’re seeing the staff so high on Garrett that they’re penciling him in the lineup next season no matter what. I don’t blame them because Garrett is going to be phenomenal. But missing on Grimes would sting like crazy.

  • Grimes appears to be a better shooter than Garrett but otherwise I would agree.

  • He definitely is. With all that’s around him, Grimes could shoot 42%+ from 3 next season. He’ll get some great looks with Garrett, Dotson, and Vick/Langford slashing.
