Marcus Garrett

  • Fouls and tried to run over a truck

  • So unselfish just watching him. Crashes the boards, rotates on defense for help. Always looking to make the extra pass. I mean how can a coach not like that approach to the game. We’ll see how he handles better players but hard to imagine Marcus struggling. He’s already looking like the glue to this team

  • Garrett looks great. He’ll earn his time. But the incredible fortune if you’re Mitch Lightfoot. No additional post recruit, and Coleby, Maxwell, and Whitman depart. Unbelievable good luck.

  • It’s gotta be the short shorts.

  • This has to be one of the best performances for a player at KU under Self while never making a shot from the floor. Hell he technically only attempted 2.

Next year is going to be reallllly interesting. I think he should redshirt barring rapid improvement. He at best will be the 4th big (I suspect 5th) and I know you are not a fan but Dedric is going to get heavy minutes.

  • Garrett by the way played 30 minutes in the game. The most by any hawk.

Is that coincidence because Graham was limited to getting some rest already? I don’t know but any freshman who seems to have earned that much trust from his coach already is going to do good things here. He’s a fan favorite of mine already and wearing the number of a legend

You can tell Graham really wasn’t looking to score last night.

  • No reason for Graham to play a lot in exhibition games. He will play a ton - no need for extra miles right now. Play him just enough to be ready for UK.

  • A LOT to like about Garret, but I love how he finds an open space on the move and pulls up for a short to medium jumper instead of driving to the basket and into defenders. I’ve thought all along that there are not enough guys who look for that and can execute it. Three ball and driving seem to be the majority plays in D1 ball.

  • @justanotherfan

I agree. Graham is a known quantity and there is no need to evaluate him under game conditions since Coach Self knows what he can do. More important to let other players show what they can do.

  • @KUSTEVE

I forgot to tell you how much I like your personalized motto line. I try new ones every day and you flat out drove the green with yours in one try!!

    Rock Chalk!!!

  • @jaybate-1.0 LOL. It seems quite odd that Dook’s chief competitors this year were L-Ville and Miami, and they suddenly wind up in hot water. I do not see Larranaga as a guy involved in buying players- the dude is clean as a whistle, and he is vehemently denying any involvement. Pitino…absolutely. Larranaga??? No way. Then we look west, and the projected order of the PAC12 in bb was AZ, USC, and Oregon. Oregon is Nike Ground Zero. Who would know better what Az and USC are up to than Nike? Would they quietly drop the dime in order to take out their chief competitors? Phil Knight is a mighty powerful man. Maybe he wants the Dux to rule…maybe he wants to even things up. Funny they busted the VP of Adidas, and they were going to “investigate the AAU Nike camps” when they announced their sting, but strangely, we haven’t heard a word about it since. Kind of funny, isn’t it?

Maybe the Okie St connection is the fact they have a contract with Under Armour …maybe it was a well known fact the coach in question was a “fixer” in the industry. If there is a REAL FBI investigation, wouldn’t it lead to 'Tucky and Dook, since they seem to be able to pick anyone they want at anytime? Remember when Dook couldn’t get a big man for years??? Remember when the Squid had 2 Final Fours set aside for cheating??? This FBI investigation raises more questions than it provides answers. Something is rotten with the whole thing, imo.

  • @HighEliteMajor

Does Marcus Garrett pass, or fail, the eye test?

  • @KUSTEVE I know! I know! it F***ing bugs the crap out of me. I mean where are the allegations against Nike AAU, Nike agents, Nike schools, Nike Coaches huh!? Where!? Nope, nothing to see here. All the wrong doings are on Adidas and Under Armor.
Nike is squeaky fraking clean!! Right!?? COME ON!! I say BS

  • @KUSTEVE

The two vacated Final Fours were not assigned to Calipari but to others associated with the programs. So far he has been able to cover his tracks and have plausible deniability; eventually the law will catch up with him.

  • @JayHawkFanToo in the court of public opinion, he is…GUILTY OF ALL CRIMES. To think the Squid wouldn’t know his players had been paid off is a bridge too far for me.

  • @jaybate-1-0 I would say pass – easily. You? I compare a bit to the disjointed and forced play of an Anrio Adams. A reasonably comparable player.

  • I need to see Garrett up against some bigger guards and wings to fully grade him out. He looks good in HS and against Pitt State, but that’s against much smaller guards who he can physically overmatch. I think he passes the eye test, but he hasn’t really been tested yet. Not even sure UK will be a good test with their current injury situation. We may not have a good feel on Garrett until mid December after he has several games under his belt.

  • @justanotherfan Garrett looked pretty good against Missouri.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

True, but it is tough to evaluate in a scrimmage. I watched the game, which was crisp at times, disjointed at others. I liked what I saw, but I need to see more, particularly in the half court against a set and locked in defense. That is typically where freshmen struggle.

  • I don’t expect him to be a star offensively.

  • Garrett is hopefully that terrific four year player that starts by year three.

  • @KUSTEVE

Unfortunately what you see and what you can prove are two different things. The squid has always had a buffer that gives him cover; eventually he will make one mistake and get caught.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Under the present situation in college bb, I don’t see the Squid having much to worry about. That’s a big meal ticket, and the NCAA takes care of their meal tickets. Back to Garrett, this is an excellent write up breaking down Garrett’s play:
