John Calipari interested in Knicks job.
-
There currently quite a few sites reporting that John Calipari has reached out to the New York Knicks about replacing Phil Jackson as team president. The recruiting ramifications of this if Cal leaves would be huge because Kentucky caliber jobs don’t come available very often and they, like Kansas and the other bluest of the blue bloods, can pick whoever they want as their next coach.

@Texas-Hawk-10 any ideas?
-
Pitino back to his old job with additional baggage…perfect for UK.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 My guess would be Sean Miller.
-
Looks like Calipari wants another raise from UK, I’m sure he will get it.
-
Apparently the Knicks are not interested at this time…
-
It might be the classic of Coach Cal getting out of town before another program that he’s lead goes under sanctions? Love him or defend him. He has a strong history of leaving his previous school in NCAA sanctions.
Just a fact.
-
Nike hasn’t called the Knicks yet.
-
So, do we believe Cal or “the media”? Sensationalism sells.
-
If his agent is smart, he is using it as a way to get a raise. But it kind of backfired when the Knicks shot him down.
Personally I think he did want the job. I think Cal has a desire to be in the NBA. But not as a coach. He wants a GM job. If he can get out of coaching and traveling, he is going to do it. I just don’t think he has the experience to ever get a GM job offer.

Calipari has been a coach in the NBA and his record is 72-112, 0.391. He was 3-17 in his third season when he was mercifully let go by the Nets.
I believe the article indicated that he wants to be President of Operations AND Coach.

@Kcmatt7 Most of the time, the rumors of Cal to the NBA come from NBA teams wanting him to coach. This rumor was different because it was Cal reaching out about a job.
James Dolan might be saying no for now, but let’s see if the Knicks actually land any of their targets. Personally, I think it’s stupid of Dolan to reject someone interested in the job because there aren’t many out there who are interested in working for arguably the worst owner in North American sports.

BINGO!

@JayHawkFanToo I know he was. I just don’t think that he wants to again. He learned there is no job security and it isn’t a very cushy gig. At least, that is my thoughts.
But, I could see a scenario where he wants to do both. That does make sense.
