Very Last Myles Turner Comments!

  • Barnes will be picked to finish 2nd or 3rd. Finish 5th or 6th though. Typical Rick.

@Kip_McSmithers He will win 7 or 8 in a row and everyone will think he is great, then he will lose 5 in a row late in the season and they won’t say anything until he win the COY award for finishing 3rd or 4th or 5th.

  • @JRyman gag!

  • The only thing that really concerns me heading into next season?

In announcer voice — “Starting at guard, a 5’11” senior, number 10, Naadir Tharpe"

  • Did anyone else see his teammate whose sagging pants fell down when they were moving around behind him?

  • @jayhawkeyes missed it!

  • I’m not bitter at all. Sure I wanted us to land him, but I’m fine that we didn’t. The only thing that bothers me about the whole thing is he drug it out, and let Bill waste his time down there on Easter Sunday. If he knew it was Texas then (and really, what transpired or even could have transpired between now and then that would have swayed him?), he should have told Bill not to waste his time.

I’m with HEM, my only concern is Tharpe.

  • @icthawkfan316 Turner sounded like he knew all along, wasted time and money dragging it out!

  • I don’t think Self had an answer for Myles and why he should come to Kansas.

From everything I read, Myles doesn’t want to beef up and play in the low post (which is where he would have needed to be in Self’s hi/lo).

There was this concept floating around that he would play high post in Self’s hi/lo. Seriously? “High” as in from the trey line?

I always wanted this kid wearing a Jayhawk uniform, but as time went on I sort of developed mixed feelings. Were we going to try a completely different offense to accommodate him shooting 3s? He could be on of those unconventional players that ends up screwing up an offense more than helping one if the specific right plan isn’t used.

I hope the best for Myles. He sounds like a bright, positive kid. But I’m curious how he will work into the lineup at UT. They going to play him as a guard? I don’t see any possibility for him going OAD at Texas.

  • Ready to kill these posts? Done w/turner! What do you know about graham?

  • If Lucas or Mickelson or Traylor play really well, that will be much more satisfying than the roller coaster ride that Turner would give us. Don’t get me wrong, with our current roster composition, I’d gladly take Turner. But now that he’s a Longhorn, we can focus on our guys. We need just one of those three to really step up – really need one to step up? Did I say really, really need one to step up?

I go with Lucas. Steps up to the challenge.

  • Hey, can anyone remind me how to include a pix I have saved in My Pictures into one of my posts here. God, I’ve done it once several mos ago, but cannot remember how! (I got a special pix “recruited” just for HEM…). Thanks to any replies…

  • @HighEliteMajor i was on the Lucas wagon at the beginning of the year, but jumped off. He seemed to be slower than I thought. He had a bad game, either TCU or Texas, kinda went down hill from there. I would be the first to back him if he improves! Great kid! Anxious to see hunter play, was googling him after this afternoon. Ready to move on.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

“Ready to kill these posts? Done w/turner! What do you know about graham?”

I’m pretty sure when it is all said and done Graham is the guy we really need sooner rather than later.

  • @drgnslayr so what do you know about him? Is their a date for his decision? Do you have 'maters planted?

  • Ok…Let’s see if Self gets Graham. I don’t think you’ll have a hat ceremony. It will simply be announced on twitter or some really low key way. Most of us will probably be reading in a few wks and learn that Graham committed without any real attention. It will be a quiet announcement and not one anlayst will say a single word.

I would love to hear Self’s pitch to Graham.

  • @ralster

Sorry, don’t know how to embed a pic…look forward to learning.

Totally forgot about the “big” announcement today…yawn…

Actually glad he stayed in conference. I love winning it EVERY year but wish we had more conference teams make the F4 and maybe even win a national title as it only helps our SOS and reputation as a quasi hoops conference.

What other B12 school would you most want to win a NC? Least want?

  • Meh. I actually like to see a few top players stay in their home states (unless KU is a better fit, of course!). He seems like a good kid, so good luck to him when he’s not playing KU.

Plus, I think two years of Mickelson will be worth more than one or two years of Turner.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I’m under the impression he’ll announce within a week. Latest… Friday after this one.

I’ve got about half my garden in. Still have some babies (seedlings) indoors soaking up warm nights.

My total plant count for this year is around 450! Biggest garden I’ve ever done. Extended my growing space almost X2.

I’ll can, dehydrate, pickle and preserve as much as I can eat until next summer and the rest I’ll give to friends and a diner for the needy.

  • @truehawk93

It seems we do better with guys who like to announce the low key way.

  • @drgnslayr what all do you have? I just do a “salsa” garden and cucs. I can salsa. Not dance! Nothing in mine yet. Think it’s a lil cool yet.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I’ll grow about 20 herbs… many are returning perennials… probably about 20 varieties of tomatoes… many of them heirlooms. I think I have about 40 varieties of peppers this year. Most of them are spicy. Many are rare heritage peppers from Native Americans and Mexico. 5 varieties of eggplant. Several cucumbers and about 50 Lebanese cucumber plants (called “mytha” ). 6 kinds of string beans (mostly Asian). Horseradish. Several kinds of greens… Kales, lettuces, spinach… Then I have a berry patch! I’m surely leaving out several things.

  • @Kip_McSmithers Not a slam - just an observation.

This guy looks like a cross between Gilligan and Steve Urkel.

  • @nuleafjhawk you are right!!!

  • @drgnslayr so impressive, love to see it!

  • Just a thought…

But could this Myles going to Texas actually help Kansas wrap up the next couple of B12 titles?

Think about it… Myles is a nice catch, but he’ll be rough this coming year. May not produce much for the Longhorns. But by picking Texas instead of Kansas, he rejected Oubre and Alexander’s offer… kind of rejecting them… kind of rejecting Kansas!

I’m thinking our guys won’t have a hard time getting jacked to play Texas as long as Myles is playing for the Longhorns.

It’s not like Myles is a bad guy… but the truth is he rejected us. And when you are preparing to play another team, you look for whatever stuff can get your guys motivated!

    I’m sensing B12 #11 and #12 will be ours!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Sometime this summer, when my babies get bigger, I’ll post some pics!

  • @drgnslayr who starts for Texas, who sits? Could that cause some problems for them? Enough balls to go around?

  • @drgnslayr I’m transplanting some aspen trees on Saturday any advice?

  • @VailHawk I’d give you some advice but half of the trees I’ve transplanted are no longer with us, but the ones that are with us are doing just great! I’d say get plenty of water in the hole you’ve dug and make sure the hole you’ve dug is about twice the diameter of the root ball.

I love aspens too, wish we had them down south. We have a tree that has leafs that are similar called the tallow, but they are an invasive species that are next to impossible to eradicate. They are the only trees that give us any color though.

  • @VailHawk I’ll figure out the embedding pix thing…

Regarding other BigXII teams…well if IowaState hadnt lost Niang, they might have made the Final 4? While I was pretty down on IowaState fans after their behavior in Ames last year, I really do like Fred Hoiberg and his giving Self a legitimate challenge every time they play us. I got nothing against ISU players.

Personally, I dont mind OU under Kruger, who is a solid, fundamentals coach…and they beat us in Norman. I dont even mind OU football, because thats all those people in Oklahoma have. No NFL for them. I personally dont mind TX, but dont think they can clear the hump. They made a Final 4 with TJFord as their PG I believe. I do not care for Baylor, they dont have the toughness needed. TxTech, TCU, KSU, and OklaSt are nowhere close. Some of my wife’s family are from Okla. (as is Self), so you’ll never see me seriously dogging OU or OklaSt.

  • @ralster we won in Norman!

  • @ralster are you posting on the right blog?

  • @ralster : All you need to do is put an exclamation mark before the parentheses in the link tab.

  • @VailHawk

Beautiful choice if you are in the right climate (and altitude). I would invest the time in researching transplanting aspens. Transplanting (in general) usually brings it’s own set of risks because you are removing an established plant from its environment.

Perhaps make a few calls… like to your local county extensions office for help. I would also search the internet, including youtube.

I’m envious of your situation! Aspens are one of my favorites.

I planted a 4 year old weeping cherry blossom about a month ago and it is doing well (so far). As @wissoxfan83 stated… you want to make a bigger hole so you can influence the soil conditions near your tree. I was advised to use a root stimulant around the ball (and I did use it). I minimally disturbed the root ball by ‘scratching’ it to loosen roots on the edge. Then I applied the powder stimulant around the root ball just before planting it in the hole. I built a base of cotton burr compost, sand and top soil first in the hole to give it good drainage and water retention (both).

In most situations you don’t add fertilizers to the hole. The tree needs time to adjust, go through shock and recover. Not exactly the time you want to push growth beyond just getting the roots to prosper in their new space.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

" @drgnslayr who starts for Texas, who sits? Could that cause some problems for them? Enough balls to go around?"

I think Myles will be used some, but will also get some bench time. He won’t come ready to start in November.

I’m not sure how he would have been used in Lawrence. He wants to bomb outside shots, including treys. But would he be our best choice for doing that?

Perhaps part of the reason why he didn’t come to Lawrence is because we have players like Frankamp… a true threat from the perimeter.

Guess the question is… would we rather have a medium-quality big shooting treys (but helps pull opposing bigs out to the perimeter) or would we rather have a high-quality guard shooting treys?

The more I think about it… the more I think Myles made the right choice by going to Texas. Barnes doesn’t have a rigid successful structure so he can take these kinds of chances.

But I ask all of you… what is the chance that Texas beats us because Myles is out there bombing treys? I find that chance to be very small and I’m happy to see us play Texas using that strategy any day of the week! Nothing against Myles… but even a superstar Durant couldn’t win the B12 for Texas… so why will Myles?!
