FRANK WINS THE OSCAR ROBINSON TROPHY!
-
Oscar and Frank had similar rebounding style vs. K State.
-
-
I find some solace knowing that Frank is still going out on top this year.
He is what I have always admired about college basketball.
The four year window of time where we witness the maturation process on so many levels.
Players like Frank, Sherron, Perry, Landen, Darnell, Withey, & Kahn are why I love this program so much. There are many others I could list, but ya’ll know them already.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Great pic Crims… Staying 4 years is the key . Awards galore, fame & prestige, AND A DEGREE! Work is a 4 letter word but so is love. And we love ️ our Jayhawks.

Frank Mason wins USBWA Oscar Robertson POY.
Fun fact: the trophy design is from a pic during a '59 NCAA tourney game in Allen Fieldhouse.
-
The picture is rotated backwards…
-
@JayHawkFanToo which one? I don’t think mine is
-
Dude is sure going to have a full trophy case at his house!
-
I was responding to @wrwlumpy’s post. Look at the names and numbers…
-
-
I think the picture is either from Municipal in KC, Ahearn, or Cincy. K-State would not be playing Cincinnati in Allen.
-
-
@wrwlumpy I don’t know the history of AFH and it’s different configurations, but lower level of seats with a 2nd deck made me wonder if it really was AFH. And the elevated floor made me think the same. Notice the first row spectators are seated below floor level. And that’s back in the day when we men wore real shorts, not the floods they sell to us today.
And look at those legs and arms on OR, wow!

The 1959 Midwest regional was at AFH. Cincy with O defeated KSU in the regional final 85-75.
-
That is not correct. AFH has hosted 38 NCAA games including opening rounds in 1976 and 1979 and regionals in 1956, 1958, 1959, 1963, 1967, 1978.
In 1959, Cincinnati with Oscar Robertson beat KSU in the regional final and the game was indeed at AFH.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I posted first, nyah nyah!
-
I was writing the post and verifying that the regional was indeed in Lawrence and did not see your post…I did post a link…
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, you had some extra info, too. Just teasing you. Have to have my wins where I can get them. I would have posted sooner, but I got lost in a reverie looking at the old pictures!
-
So Allen had an elevated floor at one time?
-
@wrwlumpy Yep. I used to get seats on about row 5 or so since I worked in AFH. It was great when the cheer leaders kicked. It was a field house with the floor being dirt. The indoor track went around the court. The raised court was put up before the bb season and taken down afterward.
-
@sfbahawk Didn’t the track go under the bleachers?
-
You are all correct. Elevated floor and lower bleachers created a lower and upper deck.

Frank wins CBS POY
-
As I recall… wasn’t it a dirt track around the court first?
-
CONGRATS Mr. Frank Mason!
You deserve it all and MORE!
