MASON AP PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ALL AMERICAN
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I was wrong about Danny. He did Recieve the Naismith, but not the AP.
-
There are several major awards and, if I recall correctly, it is rare when one player sweeps all of them.
-
@JayHawkFanToo AD?
-
@JayHawkFanToo Nope, I was wrong. Kaminsky, and then McDermott before him. List of U.S. men’s college basketball national player of the year awards - Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._men’s_college_basketball_national_player_of_the_year_awards
-
@5yardfuller No, actually the article DOES SAY he is the Associated Press Player of the Year along with Mark Few being named AP Coach of the year. - -Just read the article off Zags Blog. - - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer54 That was just today. The first article was only the AP’s All Americans. The link and Headline were incorrect when written, but correct now.
-
There are several other publications that name a POY in addition to the awards mentioned in Wikipedia. There must be a site that lists all of them…
-
@globaljaybird Says, he is the 1st player from KU to be named - -and the Big 12’s 1st player named since Blake Griffin in 2009 - - -OH by the way wanna give a little shout out - - - - -HEY LAVAR - - psssssssst - -ummm don’t know if you noticed but your boy - - - LONZO - - you know him right? - -the one your comparing to LeBron, Jordon and Steph - -ya him - -that’s the one - - LONZO your boy - - -ummm did you happen to see - -he got THREE VOTES - - -THREE - -so ummm ya, good luck with that – -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@mayjay I didn’t read it off CBS - -I read it from another site but good looking out. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

When KU lost to Michigan and Trey Burke, I wanted KU to find a diamond in the rough so bad. I remember watching all the incoming recruits highlight videos that year and After Wiggins, I was most impressed with Frank Mason. I told myself Frank Mason has a chance to become the next Trey Burke. Little did I know, he would become the first Frank Mason. To see his progression over the years has been simply amazing.
Thank for Frank for choosing Kansas. It has been an honor.
-
This means Frank is eligible to get his jersey hung one day, doesn’t it?
-
Absolutely. Consensus First Team All-American will do it and some of the POY awards will do it as well.
-
Thx. This is something I have been dreaming of for Frank ever since he got double digit rebounds from the point two seasons back. He is an exceptional basketball player with a lion’s heart and quiet dignity.
Go, Frank, go!
I’m pulling for you to find a crack in the NBA door, where you can show off the after burner you set aside the last two seasons to slow down to the D1 pace.
-
@jaybate-1.0 How about first game next year?

Try this one. Not complete (and not updated for the AP), and doesn’t have most of the media awards, but it has many organization awards, including some I never heard of. Also has conference awards.

They will name the Naismith Player of the year this Sunday and the Wooden Player of the year on the 7th of April – -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@KUSTEVE frank might be busy!
-
Guys I have a question & I seriously don’t know so let me asked is Frank Married? – My sister was asking, I said I’m not sure we was talking about how you could tell he loved his son to death - -just curious, haven’t ever heard anything mentioned - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer54 pretty sure he’s not married. Think he would have said something.
-
Watching tcu kicking butt, bad thing is, FRAN! Keep thinking about his tweet last year about all the great pt guards and leaving BIFM off that list!
-
Super congrats to my man Frank! Wow!
Frank may not be the tallest, but he is the biggest stud ever to wear a Kansas uniform!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I hope I never make you mad!
-
@mayjay you know if Fran talks trash on you, I got your back!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 That is a much better way of looking at it!
Doubt if Fran will get assigned as a commentator on any “Mayjay Home Improvement” shows, though, so I was probably safe anyway, come to think of it.
-
@mayjay Fran said today, Donovan Jackson, isu
A name to remember in 17-18 in the @Big12Conference. Was huge down the stretch.
No mention of franks award!
-
What a joy to see Frank Mason rewarded for his tremendous season and serious body of work! The progression of Frank would appear to capture Bill Self at his very best. Developing a serious minded athlete who comes onto the Div. 1 scene with distant promise but without the credentials of a McD’s superstar. Frank stays 4 years (would like to stay and play 4 more), walks off with one of the top trophies in the game. A kid who played the game right, down to his very last collegiate opportunity, and just kept a’comin’. WOW!
-
I became seriously immersed in Jayhawk fandom way back in 1988, the Larry Brown/Danny Manning Championship season. Have watched many fine players filter through the capable hands of Roy Williams and Bill Self in subsequent years. And I do hope to live at least another decade or so to stay aboard the Jayhawk Hoops Express. I look forward to viewing and cheering on a host of credible talent in oncoming seasons. But the point guard work of departing senior Frank Mason? Improbable that I shall see his like again. This season was snuffed out in a whimper. Frank Mason’s ascension yet lives on.

-
@Crimsonorblue22 O MY! Fantastic photoshopping, Crimson. I do appreciate your many fine contributions almost daily to this site. Please maintain your health and keep the postings coming.
-
@REHawk not mine, copied it off twitter
-
If someone could please print a copy of Wikipedia’s “Associated Press College Basketball Player of the Year” it would make for a dandy addition to this thread. Started in 1960-61; and the names on that annual listing will knock off yer socks! Our man Frank sits among heralded athletes, many of the best ever to play the game. One of only 6 pt. guards in nearly six decades of that record keeping. The lone Jayhawk on the list. (as a side note, Kentucky has just one name on that esteemed list; Duke, 6; UCLA 5)
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks anyway. I would never have seen the pic, otherwise. I do not tweet or fart or facebook. Well, that is not completely true. I merely dump lines into BUCKETS…almost daily.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Ya I kind of thought the same. My sister and I were just talking and I was talking about his love for his son and how you could just tell his boy was his life, and she happen to ask - -I said I wasn’t sure or not, not I too had just never heard anything mentioned - - just curious that’s all. - Didn’t see any lady there on Senior night but one never knows. - -Thanks for the feed back. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I’m going to preface this with the statement that I LOVE Frank Mason and all he did for Kansas.
However, does anyone else feel like these awards are going to lose some luster because all of the great basketball talent leaves early for the NBA? I’m not saying the award winners should always end up being NBA studs but they used to be a precursor for some NBA success.
-
Most if not all those guys played some NBA ball. The only NBA stars on the list since 90 are Shaq, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, and Anthony Davis. So the oad and transfer trend doesn’t seem to affect the quality of the winner too much. Obviously if Wiggins was a Sr. Or any of Kentucky’s oad’s had stuck around their college play would’ve been bettter, but it looks like the hit/miss rate of nba success is similar to how it was in the past.
