Kansas annihilates Oregon in Elite 8
-
No I’m not making a silly prediction that could come back to bite us. I’m talking about a game in 2002 in Madison Wisconsin.
As a way of getting my mind right after last nights disappointment I found the game film. Watched it start to finish. Classic Roy Williams KU game. Fast breaks, dunks, porous D, missed FT’s, huge points and rebounding #'s from Collison and Gooden (43pts, 35RB’s combined). Captain Kirk doing his thing, Aaron Miles whizzing all over the court, Langford’s highwire act, Boschee knocking down threes, well 2 of them anyways.
Fun way to start the day. That team was on a roll, kind of like our team is now. Hoping we win by the same 104-86 score.
Here’s the link if you want to do the same.

I would prefer this type of stress free elite eight game but that isnt going to happen.
-
@HawkChamp Actually this game in my mind (the 2002 game) was a route, but it actually wasn’t so much. We gave up a nice lead in the first half, game was tied at 40 at one point, and we let them hang around until about the 10 minute mark. Then we pulled away. I’m ready for anything today. Bill knows how to win these elite 8 games but he also knows how to lose them!
-
I’ll say it for you: after tonight they’ll be Ore-GONE!
-
I was curious to know how you were doing. Those last second dagger shots hurt more than anything else.
-
Oregon doesnt have the guns, nor the coach. Purdue was a far more competent 3shooting team than Oregon. People were afraid of Purdue, a balanced inside presence + outside 3bility. But the Purdue ran into the same buzz saw MichSt did.
A slow grinder, half court game? With Frank/DG/Josh? Lucas & Coleby? Vick alley oops baseline vs zone?

Sitting Ducks
-
Dillion Brooks is a concern because he’s about as bad as Grayson Allen when it comes cheapnand dirty play.
-
Perhaps we should play some zone against the Ducks. Oregon scored only 49 points losing to Baylor earlier this season.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 flopper too
-
Oops, sorry. On my phone and thought I was commenting on that great flop clip you posted… and somehow edited your (jayhawkfantoo) post from my account!
Didn’t know or mean to do that,
StLJhawk
No problem @StLJhawk, it’s all good. Here is the video…
-
Different team then and they didn’t have Brooks.
Oregon will play zone until we shoot them out of it
-
@drgnslayr To be honest, I could live with the last second shot, that happens. The combination of bad play, missed FT’s and really poor officiating is what made this a bitter loss. To combine it with it being the seniors last game, and it was just kind of tough. Like I said, a win tonight, plus two more heals many wounds!
-
I just hope we don’t pull out ahead too early. Our best situation is to stay about even for half the first half or more and then gradually turn it up… maintaining good momentum the rest of the way.
If they come out in a zone, we might pull a 20-point lead if a few minutes.
-
Yeah… those missed FTs killed them. They had that game and blew it at the line. Also… the refs stunk. I didn’t understand why they didn’t just put good FT shooters in at the end, when they had the lead. They weren’t stopping them from scoring anyways… so at least make sure to hit the FTs when fouled.
Why did they keep feeding the ball to Hayes? His FTs where way way off. You just knew he wasn’t going to start hitting those.
-
@drgnslayr Hayes has been making his FT’s in the tourney before last night at least. And Koenig’s very reliable but he was hobbled by cramps. His ineffectiveness down the stretch probably was the biggest reason we lost. And oh, hyperathletic Iverson gets his shot blocked by Canyon Barry (may have gotten fouled) on a breakaway dunk. Lots of plays. Season’s over for them.
-
Guarantee the Ducks will set up for charges too. I hope our guys play smart and not fall for those stupid O charges.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Anybody that pulls a stunt like that deserves a flagrant 2 and wearing a sign that says “I’m a bad flopper.”
-
@wissox Miles whizzing on the floor? He couldn’t wait until the half?
