Reverse 360
-
I know I was screaming at the tv the instant I saw Vick starting a 360… and thinking that if he missed it I was going to go as apoplectic as Self
-
Swanigan poked the bear with his trash talk. It wasn’t just Vick either. KU went up to about 13 (on a 10 pt scale) in that 2nd half.
-
@StLJhawk PHOF!!!
-
A big chunk of why this team is exploding in March this year… Bill has a team of mostly experienced guys and he knows how to communicate the right way with them to get them to play without high anxiety.
These guys are “dialed in” and Bill isn’t going to disrupt their minds. Vick was awesome last night.
I could see Bill making a kind of dark joke about it if he missed. Something to let him know he should chill on the theatrics and just make the shot, but not so much the teacher approach to teaching him a lesson. Vick knew his risks.
I thought the 360 communicated a bit of frustration with Vick. He’s on the edge of showing us so much more so he gave us a sneak peak.
-
Vick is going to be a major player next year. That 360 was him announcing his presence to the rest of the country. When he’s going nuts next season, people will remember the 360 as his coming out party.
-
EXACTLY!
It was like when Cole Aldrich announced his presence in the UNC game in 2008!
-
I did think the 360 was a response to tbe bogus tech in the mi state game.
-
That’s actually what this brought to mind for me, too!
-
Could be. I noticed he looked around after he did it… just waiting for the whistle to T him up again!
-
I remember saying aloud…please, please, please don’t mouth off…
-
@JayHawkFanToo Just out of curiosity - why is it a Technical when LV makes a face and a grunt after a monster dunk, but Swanigan mouthed off to LL THE WHOLE WAY DOWN THE COURT and guess what? No technical. A-frickin-mazing.
-
I guess it comes down to not getting caught. It is like when a player shoves another and the second player retaliates and always gets called even when the other player started it…and also depends on which school’s checks to the refs cleared first.
-
Refs afraid to T-up Swanigone, as then it would really lead to a slaughter, so they would have needed something more stark from Caleb to give him a T…
Oh, wait…KU slaughtered Purdue anyway.
-
Ironic that one of the bigger trash talkers ever in the NBA, Reggie Miller, was calling the game.

Or how about Amile Jefferson in that Duke loss? He must have jawed at the refs and life in general for about 5 straight minutes toward the end of the game and also nothing.
-
Kennard made a dork of himself as well. But it’s Duke sooooo
-
That is an easy one…Duke does not mail checks, they have all the refs checking account numbers and do direct deposits.
-
@nuleafjhawk Maybe we didn’t hear what Vick said, nor did we hear what Swany said.
I’m trying to remember the setting of that talk, I think it was early 2nd half. I’m guessing that it might have been a tipping point. Within minutes of it, maybe the next possession, LL answered with a thunderous dunk. Swanigan looked nothing like a contender for POY after that.

@tis4tim Talking to opposing players isn’t a problem. Even trash talk. All good competition. Neither is talking to refs unless you are really demonstrative. But if it happens in a combative and provocative way, Ts are there to prevent any physical reaction by opposing player, or bring a player or coach under control.
An anology in “real” life: you can say critical or negative things to people in a bar and in most situations they are expected to respond peacefully. Use what the Supreme Court has described as “fighting words”, and you get the legal equivalent of a T (citation for disturbing the peace when somebody bashes you for whatever you said about his mother).
-
I thought the best part was when Vick was dribbling toward the basket, the announcer said…“buckle up!” He knew what was coming…although nobody expected a 360.
-
Not sure if this was already posted.
-
I think Self can live with it because it was in the flow of the game. Had Vick missed I think we would have heard Vick, boneheaded, and play in the same sentence. Regardless, nothing like Self’s disdain for Greene’s time expiring dunk:
“Brannen Greene, we’ve put up with him doing some stuff in the past, but that was probably the biggest d*ck move I’ve ever had a player do during a game,” Self said. “To dunk the ball like that when the other team — even their players are going, ‘How disrespectful to the game.’”
-
I totally agree. I dont know what Vick said in a single syllable and I dont know what Jefferson said in his 5-minute soliloquy. However the announcers in the Duke game seemed to think Jefferson was kvetching about some bad calls because they intimated that the refs were doing a good job letting him “vent”. Okay so the guy keeps it g-rated, but after a couple minutes I still woulda told him to let it go or he’d be getting a “t” for his continued outbursts. Just my opinion though I confess my opinion is heavily shaded by my absolute hatred of all things Duke.
-
@drgnslayr @justanotherfan @Fightsongwriter You guys are absolutely right on about that dunk. Coming out party. Vick is going to be a monster next year. And that dunk made me immediately think of the T the game before.
You could see the look on his face. He had landed the plane, the recognition in his eyes. I did it. Now just get out, no mouthing off.
It was awesome!
-
Maybe we score 120 points tomorrow… Mason 25, Jackson 23, Graham, 24, and Vick 28!
Wouldn’t that throw a wrench into the remaining teams trying to scout us!
-
@drgnslayr Don’t discount our latest inside & 3 pt scoring threat,
BIM = “B---- I’m Mitch”
-
Love it!
-
Nicely done Sir, nicely done.
