B12 tourney... weigh in

  • I’m not sure how to feel about the tourney… I hate to see our guys lose of course, but really wonder about the whole value of it… would we be better off with more rest? or is playing hard and really making a top effort to win it better for us going into the NCAA tourney?

love to hear board Denizen’s various opinions…

  • @Bosthawk

I’m not concerned about rest. Always a little concerned about injuries.

Bill isn’t running hard practices any longer. And our guys get plenty of recoup time to soak in the tubs, etc.

  • @Bosthawk

If KSU, Tech or TCU advance all the way it would certainly insure at least on and probably 2 more conference teams making it to the dance. Is it possible? Yes. Is it probable? Most likely not.

  • At this point the only team really playing for something is Kansas St. If they win at least 1 game they might go dancing.

Otherwise the 5 teams that will be in are all just ensuring or trying to enhance their seed line. Not exactly a lot of drama going into this one.

KU is the #1 seed regardless of this week so we have nothing to play for in that regard. While it would be nice to get some rest, this team wants to win every game it puts on the jersey. I’m all for this team winning 3 more games in 3 days. It’s 3 more games we get to see Frank Mason doing his thing. I don’t want the ride to end with him running the show. I want every opportunity possible

  • @BeddieKU23

Keep in mind that the winner is the automatic conference qualifier. If KSU, TCU, Tech, OU or even Texas pulls a miracle and wins…they would be in.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Which wouldn’t help anything if it did happen. K-St was a tournament team before collapsing, they will do the Big-12 no favors getting in other than giving us 6 bids. The coach has completely lost it.

  • @BeddieKU23 Coach Self as well as the players have said , well as long as we have to play it, we might as well win it right? I don’t know how many times I’ve hear this said. Any game the players play they feel like they are playing for something, it’s all about pride for them, tradition.

As far as rest - -na, not that much of a concern this point and time, players have said they are fine, they are getting rest- just like after Saturday off Sunday, Off yesterday, probably light walk through tomorrow, then practice Thursday.- -Then even if they make the Championship and play Saturday they won’t play again till Friday being in the Midwest as it’s a Fri, Sun schedule for the region so well rested after this weekend good more then likely another 4 day rest - just stay healthy, come NCAA longer commercial breaks, they gonna be good to go. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 I agree with coach and the players. We might as well win it. Not only that, this team is on track to match the 07-08 team. If they can win the next nine games, they will have the exact same record as that championship team. 37-3. Now wouldn’t that be fantastic? GO JAYHAWKS!!!

  • Injuries are always possible, but I just don’t think that’s something you should worry about. I think you put on the uniform, go out there and give it your best every time you play. I have no empirical proof, but I think when you try to get cute and rest players or lose “on purpose” for some extra down time that’s when bad things happen. There is something to be said about keeping players in their normal routines for the duration of the season. Altering those routines now I think could have a deleterious effect. Sure, rest is great, so pour it on during the game, get an insurmountable lead and you can rest all you want.

I say let’s win and win some more and keep on winning until we don’t. Play hard and let the chips fall. Whatever will be will be.

  • I seem to recall Mason bending over repeatedly in the last game. Not sure if that was due to a temporary blow that knocked the wind out of him or something else. Obviously, it didn’t impact the rest of the game leading me to believe it was something like that.

But that does raise the spector of injury or fatigue with multiple games one after another.

Not a fan of the post-season Conference tournament. Might feel different if we didn’t win the Conf regular season for 13 years in a row.

  • I don’t think the rest is that important. All the other conferences are playing also…we will be no more tired than they are. I say…play hard and win this as well!

  • 2013/14 demonstrated a team running on fumes can get it done when it matters most. Maybe the hawks can match that.👍 jh.jpg conn.jpg

  • I personally don’t care about the conference tournament, if we are playing I cheer and hope we win but it has little effect on much for us. We have had teams cruise thru this and go far or lose early after winning it. I really think any team in this conference can get hot for a few days and win it. I’m just hoping KSUCK loses to Baylor to not get in lol.

  • @Bwag I rewatched the play where the guy he guarded knocked the ball out of bounds. Frank took an inadvertent knee to the groin. The other bending over was more of a stretching exercise where immediately afterward he beat everyone downcourt on a fast break to score.

  • @wrwlumpy everyone else was dying! Not BIFM! Speaking of that BIFM 2 is coming out, soon.

  • I’m keeping my eye on ISU. Our conference tournament has become their “big prize” now every year. They know they won’t win our regular season conference title and they damn well know they stand zero chance on a national title.

Their fans love to come in and try to dominate Sprint and the Light & Power District.

This is their one big moment to be more known than just being in the Jayhawk Big 12.

  • Conference tournaments are CRAP. STUPID. BS. IGNORANT. DUMB. MORONIC.

If you aren’t quite sure, I’m not a fan. If you HAVE to play a stupid conference tournament, do it at the beginning of the season. A Preaseason Let’s See Who’s Got What Tournament, if you will.

The only purpose they serve at this time of year is to get a key player (s) injured and screw up the NCAA tournament for everybody.

  • Kansas City welcomes the Hawkeyes and their money like they did back in the day when the FFA had their week long convention. All the hotels and restaurants root for an ISU/KU final. About 5 years ago, I went to a casino with friends after ISU had advanced to the Finals. A cheerleader who still had her uniform on won a $50,000 jackpot on a slot machine. She jumped higher than any cheerleader I’d ever seen.
