Darryn Peterson

Thought he settled a few times when he couldāve drove. But Iām genuinely just glad he got through this one.
-
@TYOHawk But did he get through it? I'm not trying to be a hater, but I just have never seen this level of kid gloves applied by Bill Self before. He couldn't play for UConn because he was only at 90-95%? So he must have been 100% for this one? But later we found out there was a minute restriction? I feel like I saw DP ask to be taken out after in the first half maybe even rejecting a sub. It just feels like Bill Self is working very hard to spin the fact that DP is yet to play a full game of basketball. I understand that is Bill's job and I'm all for him taking as much heat off of the 18 year old as he can, I've just never seen him do it to this level before and it makes me feel weird. Lol.
Really hoping this is all somewhat Remy coded and come March we will see this team actually peak and make some noise. I'd just love to beat a few of the really good teams in the big 12 along the way.

I mean he seems to be okay. He was fighting a bug/illness thatās ran through the team lately too. Iām kind of surprised so many people expected him to come back from his first game and just like play 30-35 minutes fresh off a hamstring injury.
-
@TYOHawk I think Coach did exactly what he should of done. What Coach said was yes, there was a minute restriction of 27 minutes and that they let it get away from them. So that is why he only played what he did , then in the 2nd half. We
were in or had a comfortable lead so why put him back in and take any unwarranted chance he screws something up again and Darryn be lost even longer next time.In the end this was a win - --win situation , Darryn played and then our other players from the bench still got even more playing time/ experience, & if people can't understand that this will help down the line then if people can/t understand that then they are just blind, There is zero reason - -none what so ever you play Darryn over thirty minutes in this game
Mercy what a terrible response on his , so many mis spelled words-- words double typed , mercy ---I edited this tried to clean it up--- Sorry fellow Jay Hawks
-
He didn't feel well, not much left in the tank.
-
At this point, the most important thing about this team's ability to reach its ceiling is that they like each other, including Darryn. FOE.
-
I thought his minute limit would be more like 20, especially after I heard heād been ill. Still had some great moments.
-
Has DP played the last minute of ANY game this year? If so, I can't remember it. I'd be curious to know if there's ever been a player to avg 17 a game and NEVER be on the court at the final buzzer. Lol
-
No he hasn't finished a game. Sat most of 2nd half against Green Bay (up big). Left the UNC/Mizzou/NC St games late due to hammy.
-
You can tell he isn't going at full speed because he is worried about it
-
JMO... I don't think DP tweaked anything. I think he's just super sensitive to tightening and Self put down a rule on the max he can play in a game, plus, the option to pull him if he sees him labor. I think the media is just looking for a story.
Also... this does open up an easy path to keep him out of our upcoming cupcake games in preparation for Big12 play.
Yes.. he didn't go full tilt against NC-state... but an 80% DP is better than anyone on the court. As I mentioned long ago, we have never seen him play 100%.
I suspect, if everything goes well moving forward, we will have spurts of him going full tilt, but will never see him laying out there 100% for 35 minute game.
Just my opinion.
-
Self said yesterday it was his quad tightening and not his hamstring that was bothering him late in the game Saturday for whatever that's worth.
We'll know later if he's giving it a go tonight or shutting it down again. Seems 50/50 either way. It would be our luck to land such a talent and see very little of his actual potential.
-
100% frustrating as a fan. This whole thing is ridiculous.
Unless youāre playing in Maui, what freaking 19 year olds have cramping issues every game?
A mystery wrapped in an enigma. I hope they can sort him out. Heās kind of important.

I'm thinking like BShark saying he is worried, only natural BUT you for sure can see he is holding back, no explosion====quick cuts , however i don't think he is faking , what people have to realize is, this is what I'd ask is what can he possibly gain by sitting out?
Because for every game he sits out is effecting his Draft status- longer he sits could drop his pick- ---projected # one pick , he could drop to three/four There have been some NBA executives say that YES some NBA say yes they have voiced concerns- -sure still make mega bucks BUT HUGE difference between first and third or fourth picks, I'm just not buying any thing funny about this
-
Espn article today saying that Peterson's stock is not impacted by his injury
-
I think we are all 100% frustrated that he's not 100%. That includes him.
But it's a pretty phenomenal freshmen who can start and play at less than 100% and still be a very significant contributor playing just a fraction of the game.
At this point, I'm thinking he should sit and heal. I sooo want to see him at 100% with this team in March.
Remy 2.0?
-
I'm for him staying out until Big12 play
-
@BeddieKU23 I would agree his stock hasn't been impacted by his injury yet. Key word there is yet though. If he sits out the rest of the season that won't be the case though and some front offices will have long term durability concerns along with questions on whether he will be overly cautious with injuries when he get to the NBA or if he will be willing to play through minor injuries in the playoffs. Maybe in some years that doesn't matter, but you have AJ with a similar long term upside and Boozer whose floor is probably a plus starter in the NBA. Even then it still depends on the team picking, but sinking money into an injury prone star is an easy way to take yourself out of running for a championship, especially with the new CBA. DP has plenty of reason to show this isn't going to be a lingering issue the rest of his career if he can.
Also add in that these players are aware that their marketability is important. Showing out in conference play and the NCAA tournament is the best way for DP to gain there.
Plenty of reason for him to play, and once his hamstring is fully healed not much downside to playing. Not like he is going to stop training/practicing leading up to the draft and there isn't a significant difference in injury risk between that and games.
-
It sounds like his hamstring is fully healed, right? Didn't Self say he would only play when 100%?
i'm no doctor, so i don't know if rest helps cramps, or drugs, water, salt???
