Do you think Bill Self has coached well this year?

I think this may be his best coaching job besides 2012. Playing with 6.5 players, handling some tough road games that normally give us problems. I don’t know, when you look at the names on this list, while some are deserving I suppose, some, I say, if Jay Wright is on that list (east coast media anyone?) well, what he has done is no more impressive than Bill Self I’d say. Maybe since Bill deservingly won it last year you can’t give it to a guy two years in a row.

    Sean Miller? Really?

The guy at Gonzaga? Give me a break. When they lose in the 2nd round of the dance again we’ll know about them.

Other names have me laughing out loud. Gregg Marshall! Hilarious! He deserves coach of the year mentions?

I don’t mind Chris Collins name on the list. NU looks like they’re dancing for the first time.

Scott Drew, I’ll grudgingly admit he’s deserving of some votes.

I guess Bill Self is too good to be considered the coach of the year. That’s the curse of winning a lot of games every year. No one ever says wow, look at what Kansas is doing.

  • @wissox Going with Few. When you defeat all comers, you are at the top of the list.

KU would lose to this WSU team.

  • Actually hard to judge Self, since to us KU people he is a known commodity. We intimately know his philosophies, and to me its only a question of how quickly (or not) incoming kids are able to do all the little things that add up to Ws.

This season? I dont know enough facts to judge his handling of Bragg. Bragg simply is not a factor on the court. Still not.

Didnt like IowaState shooting so many 3s in AFH, when that is their known calling card. How is that allowed to happen? Is that all on the coach? Or the players? Or both?

  • The fact that Bill Self has gone to a 4 guard line up and has sought advice from coaches like Hoiberg who have run the system in the past is a sign of flexibility. So is mostly abandoning the high-low due to a lack of adequate personnel and has adopted more of a dribble drive, motion type offense to fit his personnel is a sign of good coaching.

No coach is infallible and Bill Self has made some mistakes this year. Not utilizing Lightfoot and Coleby more to give the guards and LL some rest has veen problematic for this year.

I think most people who follow college basketball, but not necessarily Big 12 or KU specifically realize Self is a great coach (some think dirty, but name a major program where non-fans don’t say or think that), and KU having the potential to take a 3 game lead with 4 to play in a league woth 3 top 10 teams is pretty impressive no matter who you’re a fan of.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Yep, this year’s playstyle is almost the ultimate example of something Self has been good at for quite a while: Masking and covering weaknesses.

Wow, you’re brave writing that here!

.But not if we use a strong enough hatchet man & his aim is precise Heh, heh…

  • @BShark We would lose to this WSU team? Why?

  • @Hawk8086 really, lost all my respect!

  • @BShark What are you smoking?

  • @Hawk8086 Hilarious. It’s always nice to know we have Shlocker fans on here.

  • @wissox Maybe a better question would be, of the coach’s listed who could’ve accomplished what HCBS has accomplished with what he has had to work with?

  • @wissox Coach Self is a Hall Of Fame coach. I think he has been amazing considering Doke’s injury, along with Bragg’s meltdown. 12 straight conference championships …going for 13 is truly otherworldly.

  • Yes, we are still winning games despite Udoka’s injury and player suspension distractions. Mason, Graham, Jackson and Lucas must be enough to get us to the Big 12 and NCAA championships. It will take an incredible effort by these four, but they can do it. The necessary scoring is double, double from Lucas, 20 pts. each from Mason and Jackson, and Graham must hit key 3’s and score at least 14/ game.

  • I know and understand that Marshall is not popular here but when you look at what he has done at WSU, there is no question he is a very good coach.

I can’t stand Gregggggg and WSU.

They would play harder and want it more.

  • @BShark You thot we’d lose to Dook…and Kentucky. Wichita St? Seriously?

  • Well, we aren’t likely to find out I suppose. Then again, the committee loves setting up that shit.

  • @BShark tell that to frank. Face to face please. Call me

  • @wissox

Bill Self is a genius and he coaches like a genius and he wins like a genius.

Anyone that would give ANYONE else COY than Self this season has to either have been to an EST Deep State secret torture prison and been depatterned and repatterned as a mind controlled informant of the Eastern Standard Time Zone Oligarchy, or…

Been accidentally zapped in the head by a HAARP beam bounced off the ionosphere being used to engineer the climate and roast terrorists and enemies of the Deep State.

There is no other possible explanation. :neckbeard:

  • After todays win, we’re going to lose to Wichita State?

  • @wissox that’s a match up I want, as long as we win. Get tired of losing to valley teams in the dance. That’s all I hear from WSU fans was them beating us in the 80s and in 2015. I don’t think WSU is near as talented this year, but they play hard every single second that’s how they win. Not with talent just with hustle.

  • @kjayhawks I don’t live anywhere near the Valley so I don’t really pay attention. I really had no clue WSU was doing anything until I saw Marshall getting mention for COY.

As for Few, I hear ya @mayjay but I just don’t get too impressed with that schedule.

  • @wissox not for this year! They will be lucky to get an at large bid. Marsha sweating it out. They beat ou, got killed by osu

  • @wissox I never trust Gonzaga, every year we hear about them being the Cinderella. They have zero FFs and 1 elite 8 in program history. @Crimsonorblue22 WSU won’t be sweating at all selection Sunday. They are projected as 8 seed and are a top 20 RPI team. I bet they are ranked Monday, been getting votes for a month.

  • @kjayhawks listened to him tonight and he was hoping they were in. I was reading cbs sports bracketology. Valley teams are bad.

  • @wissox I’m biased but I think Coach Self is coach of the year.

  • @BShark ok. Bet. IF KU plays WSU in March this year. You against the board. you put up as much money as you are willing to lose on Your WSU team. Everyone else bets on KU, obviously. And when you lose, you owe all of us what you bet on.

  • @jaybate-1.0 Howling!
