I definitely think our conference is down this year. But I think ALL of D1 is down this year. Not really that many dominant teams.

I believe DEFENSE has largely left college basketball. A big part of it is how they call games, definitely punishing aggressive defense. The TV marketing wonks have won.

Interestingly, we gave up 9 more points in the second half than we did the first. But, we scored 52! points in the second half. We started to execute the offensive a lot better - made a handful of 3s (not many), but got some penetration and post scoring from LL and JJ. And, points off TOs.

@drgnslayr I watched that-UK is similar to us defensively-let opp score too easily & try to outscore them flipside. When it’s on da line ya just gotta D-UP.!

Yep… seems our poise kicked in and we executed better. I give a lot of credit to our poise. Just hanging in there and waiting for a break. And we got several of those. There are at least a half dozen calls that could have gone against us but didn’t. We didn’t get those calls in Morgantown.

Agreed on the calls - 15 on us and 17 on them - doesn’t happen on the road that often - esp. at a venue like Rupp…

After the light bulb came on with these guys they also projected better body language. I really believe that impacts refs and how they call the game.

I kind of think coaches are a bit like players. When playing an easy schedule and running up a bunch of wins, why should they change anything? Why put in extra stuff when we are winning?
Gosh… just thinking back to our last two NCs… we had lost a bunch of games those years. It pushed our coaches to hustle in other concepts. I’ll never forget when Bill put Rush out on defensive point…

@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, was watching that one when it happened. Showed my wife his history on youtube and even she says the kid needs help. I kind of think she knows a little about that as she worked at Menningers for about a year while in nursing school at Washburn years ago.

I loved watching old man Lucas show up those freshmen. It’s amazing what you can do with a little experience. UK has the talent to beat anyone, but KU has the experience. Not to mention the experience of beating the pre-season top 2 teams!
