Harry Dean Stanton, huh?
Spent a month getting know Harry back 30 years ago or so. I was a bouncer at a bar that he frequented while in town making a movie. He came in every night and pounded whiskey and played one of those arcade games that had the stuffed toys in it with the crane. We had to start bringing in more quarters to keep up with him. Every night he convinced me to be his friend and lay the machine on its side to loosen the toys to make it easier.
He didn’t speak much. I tried to ask him some questions about “Cool Hand Luke” and his answers rarely went beyond three words.

If we don’t hustle on defense we are going to get shellacked.

I think we match up well with them. I’d put Svi on their 4 and JJ on Monk if we want to disrupt him or we can go the route of putting JJ on Briscoe to keep him out of foul trouble and to help eliminate how well Briscoe rebounds.
I’ve watched about 10 UK games this year and I would definitely be ready to go zone against them on makes. Press the inbounds pass so they can’t run and force them to run a half court offense. They only have one real shooter. Willis and Gabriel can shoot but can be streaky. I’d pack the paint and make them shoot to win.
On offense, we should be able to do whatever we want. We need to go at Bam immediately and try to get him in foul trouble. Could backfire on us by getting LL in trouble himself. But, worth the risk. Getting Bam out early forces them to go to Humphries and LL can own him all day long. This is another matchup JJ should be able to go for 20 points or have 10 assists. We need to exploit his mismatch. Svi needs to be more aggressive this game and Frank and Devonte can’t get shook if they pressure us hard.
I’m excited for this game. If we can go steal one in Rupp, well, Christmas will have come very, very early. This is also a very important game for our chances at landing in KC.

Definitely a big key is to stop them from transition scoring. I think this is the fastest team Cal has had at UK. When they get moving, they move much faster than any D1 team I have ever seen. Not even close. All they need is 2.5 seconds inbounding under their basket to dunking at their end.
But if we can keep them to half court offense, they are very disjointed. Pray a guy like Monk doesn’t get hot. Our guards are going to have to start guarding.
-
Interesting. In his presser Coach Self indicated he had talked to Fred Hoiberg about playing four guards and they have been watching tape of ISU and how they used Niang in the offense.
-
It’s too bad we lost Perry… even though he had troubles scoring on big bigs, having 4 guards out that can bomb the trey would have meant Perry anywhere near the paint without a double-team.
Then have Perry bombing treys and pulling a big out on the perimeter so our guards can drive.
He was an amazing weapon that we could never really properly utilize in the 3-guard offense.

@wrwlumpy This team is so not even close to what the 2012 team was. After seeing WVU kick our butts, I dont have a good feeling about this game at all.
-
@wrwlumpy Nice job as always, but the thread needs more dog.
We FINALLY made it up the road from Lexington to the Kentucky capital in December with the beast, and the entire front of the building is covered in scaffolding. Figures.
-
@DanR I have a cute lil boy that needs a dog sitter in May for a few days, think he’d have fun at your house
-
I’m not ready anymore
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Bring him by. Seriously, let me know if you if you’re ever in Lawrence and you need a place for your dog to chill for a while.
-
At this point if we are even competitive I’ll be happy. Impossible to ask these kids to put all the distractions behind them. Would be nice if this team rallied around the situations.

There is definitely a curse this year. How do you remove it?
