Alleged Victim in jail

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Probably true. I was surprised to see him sitting with or near the team. Gave cause to my thinking that Carlton did nothing very violent. Otherwise, Bill Self would not have allowed him to show up with the team so soon.

  • @REHawk some rumors there is video, heard it twice. Means nothing though!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 There is an article today on the old LJW site, Bill explaining his allowing Carlton to sit with his teammates. Also a reiteration that he will not suit up until legal issues resolved. But can practice, though in a much more limited capacity, as he will not be essential to the current game plans.

  • Biggest disappointment of the season so far: post play. What should have been a mere passing of the baton as Lucas + Bragg start with Doke and Coleby as subs…has become a fumbling around in the grass, off-the-track, trying to find the baton. Its been dropped majorly.

If anyone suggests this is still the DannyDeparted phenomenon, then that is an irreconcilable argument, since Danny was long-gone even when Carlton committed. Especially when we saw more out of Bragg last year. Plus, Danny Manning’s name is not heading up this program. Its Self’s playstyle, recruits, philosophy…from Tulsa to Illinois to KU…at record pace. Basically, its a case of next-man-up simply not up to the task, and largely from Bragg’s own doing/not-doing.

  • @ralster Landen looked much better yesterday. He finally looks healthy. Don’t close the book on him- I predict within two weeks, we’ll all be singing his praises.

  • @ralster I do think Danny was a very good coach for our bigs. When Danny was part of our staff, I always felt our front court players were going to be well coached. When I see Doke get the ball in the paint and then dribble the ball even though he’s surrounded by defenders, I feel we miss Danny’s coaching.

  • @KUSTEVE yes lets wait and see. I will only call our post play a disappointment if there is no improvement by March. Landen says he is feeling better and Dok’s post play is looking smoother every game.

  • Think about it… our post play SHOULD be in disarray!

When we added Doke on this team we all knew it would become a battle for minutes, mostly at the 5.

So 5th-year senior, Landen, who earned the 5-spot last year and was THE DIFFERENCE down the stretch, leading us to yet another conference championship now has to suddenly prove himself all over again, almost like last year didn’t even happen.

Perhaps Landen feels a bit jolted. Maybe he should feel that. But in reality, he better get used to having the biggest competition coming from his own team… pro ball is all about competing against your own team.

Bill has played this well. He is pushing his bigs to make a big leap in their development this year, and in order to do this it is important that all our bigs are not settled into an easy comfort zone. They all need to be challenged, and that needs to happen all through our year.

I see nothing but good coming our way in the post. Landen is a huge “positive character” individual. He isn’t going to let his team down no matter what happens with his feelings or his stumbles while learning to get to the next level. I have total faith in Landen. And Doke, Carlton, Dwight and Mitch are all going to make steady gains this year.

Landen is our leader in the post. All our guys look up to him. That is also part of the problem because suddenly Landen is carrying a lot more pressure than he has in past years. We talk about what it is like to lose Perry and how that impacts Landen. A lot of the impact relates to adding pressure on Landen to become accountable as the leader of our post.

I don’t think I could write a more-perfect scenario than what we have going on right now. We may even gain from Carlton’s situation… maybe…

  • The sky is falling. The sky is falling.

  • @drgnslayr I think Landen understands the situation and is starting to figure out how to play in his new role. He figured it out last year and he will figure it out again. I think some people forget how the beginning of last year went and how disjointed it was at certain points. The 08 team did not jump out of the gate as the best team either. Like you said, we all knew Dok would be raw but has a lot of potential. To me what I am seeing is not surprising at all and I don’t why anyone else is. He has come a long way in the first month and has several nice moves in the post, something that people were saying he wouldn’t be able to do and yet he can. It’s the old question - play our vets a lot now or play the freshman with a lot of potential to get experience. IMO, Dok has too much talent and potential to sit on the bench, even in a tight game. If he doesn’t get PT now, then we can’t count on him in March, and we will need him.

Despite what people are saying, I thought the first half yesterday was pretty good - seemed like the guys thought the game was over and didn’t play with any energy the second half, simple as that.

I think everyone forgets that the season is a marathon, not a sprint. If it was, UNC and UCLA would be in the title game, but it isn’t. Coach and the team know what needs to improve. Those areas just need a little tweaking and improvement in order to take this team to the top. I have said in the past this team is at no disadvantage when compared to other teams. Not having Bragg would make things more difficult but I am staying positive that something good will happen for him. Just because we don’t have a NPOY candidate in the post doesn’t mean this team can’t compete for a championship. I think OU, UConn and Nova have proved that exceptional guard play is the foundational piece to make the final four with the big guys rebounding, not fouling and making smart plays, and I believe that Landen and Dok can do more than those three items.

  • @brooksmd I know! I wake up this morning and the world is coming to an end. Man, I thought our first half was really good. I guess no one else thinks so.

  • @HawkChamp at least it gave ll some confidence and doke more time. We will know more after sat. Think the Bragg thing was playing heavily on them. I’m sure it was on coach, major distraction. Many lessons learned! Take care of your brothers!

  • This is all pretty simple. If Bragg gets back, the scheme and personnel fit, work and are on track for sufficient development by March.

    Not if not.

  • @HawkChamp You’re right the first half was amazing. I posted that I thought we looked more athletic than any other KU team I can remember. Svi was fantastic.

  • @KUSTEVE Agree for sure, let’s hope it’s the real deal, and it is because he is improving and getting healthier OR is it the competition he is playing against? - - UMKC - - Nebraska? had some advantage height wise BUT having said that I do believe he is taking steps in the right direction - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 considering that he struggled against Washburn and Emporia State, I will take this

  • @HawkChamp

I agree. The first half was very good but it looked like the team just coasted in the second half; I have seen a lot of the top ranked teams do the same so it is not restricted to KU.

Doke alway was and still is a project or work in progress, as it were. Anyone expecting immediate results, considering how green and unpolished he is, was being unrealistic. With the playing time he is getting he should be able to contribute more as the season progresses.

  • @JayHawkFanToo think doke needs to go see his family for Christmas, which may not be happening. So young!

  • @HawkChamp

    Very good post!

  • @brooksmd sky fell long time ago, fire bill self, blah, blah ,blah…(the usual drivel, right…). Should see the comments on the other site, lol.

  • I am impressed with the way in which our coaching staff is handling Udoka. Those starting scenarios are psychologically LOADED, with much confidence building, game to game. Udoka has begun to control his wild fouling. Lucas did a fine job yesterday, really stepping upward while the Bragg mess was swirling. This squad is a very very different and unique Bill Self construction. Wins are terrific, of course, but I am enjoying the ride.

  • @ralster There is another site?

  • @REHawk

Also, the foul situation for Jackson has gotten a lot better…kid is a fast learner.

  • JJ is a true Xfactor, and Udoka could end up being one by March.

  • Does anyone know why is it when they both go to jail for it, Bragg’s mugshot and name are everywhere but the woman has to be kept anonymous?

  • @JhawkAlum I do know Topeka cap journal released her name

  • @JhawkAlum said:

The kusports.com story explained why they did not state her name: she was not charged and she is not a publicly known figure.

  • Yea her name has been released. Only pic I can find is a twitter profile pic…

  • @Kcmatt7

You can also see lots of pictures in her Facebook account. According to several publications, their standards for publishing “alleged” victims information are higher than those at the Topeka Capital Journal.
